Do you think Skyrim will be 50 or 60 dollars?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:37 pm

I'm from England and it's gonna probably be about £39.99 to £49.99. I don't know what that is in $, but I imagine it's probably gonna be about 50ish. Of course it will depend on the platform too. Most PC games are cheaper. Whereas PS3 games tend to be more expensive.

Uhh I dunno where you live but it'll be 60 dollars in the states, just like every other video game.
(59.99 + tax to be exact.)

This. I'm confused by this thread?

Hopefully the PC version will remain $50, but thanks to Activision and EA, PC gamers are losing that little benefit. Not that I'd have a problem buying Skyrim on PC at $60. I imagine many online retailers like Amazon will have $10-20 credit with the purchase since that has become a pretty widespread tactic.

Selling on a downloadable service nets you much more money. There are no manufacturing fees and online retailers typically only take 30% or so. Downloadable gaming should be much cheaper, but we long ago crossed that bridge and the publishers cut the ropes after we got across. We'll have to build a whole new bridge! Which probably wont work considering the big RPGs now cost about $100 to get the "full" experience. Unless you wait a year/year and a half for the GOTY package.

I think Skyrim will be 59€-65€, as I live in Finland and we have euros. It's pretty much the average price for a new PC game.

Seriously people, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. :nono:

There is no bridge to cross. For the consoles at least. PS3/360 versions will be $59.99 + tax. Simple as that.

60 dollars? we're at parity with the US dollar and our games cost $99.95 in saying that I'd pay double for Skyrim :)

Not really

There will likely be a range of prices considering that there will likely be a collectors edition and that could get upward into the $80 range.
I would actually consider $150 to be the upper threshold for special editions nowadays. Halo had it for that helmet which was kinda lame. And CoD had it for the NVG's and then the Radio Control car. If Bethesda came up with something worth spending that much on their special edition for I'd buy it. But it'd have to be cool.

Hopefully it's not the beginning of a trend, but a couple current PC games on Steam (Crysis 2 & Dragon Age 2) are $60.

C'mon people do any of you understand economics? Games in general have been holding steady at 50$ for nearly a decade. Did you honestly believe as the price of everything else in the world increases that games would remain the same forever? All the resources used to make games from electricity to toilet paper has increased in price over the last ten years and you have enjoyed a constant static cost in your video gaming entertainment. Yet your paying more for all other forms of entertainment from sports venues to concerts to movie tickets than you did just five years ago. It was only a matter of time you know. We can't really complain much if the gaming industry holds at 60$ for as long as it held at 50.

In Australia, new games are more than 100 dollars, even though our dollar worth the same as a US dollar.

Yeah I remember EB games was charging $119.00 for Mass Effect 2 standard edition.

I am deeply sorry... and will never move to Australia. :P

Truly, though, what's going on, over there? Why are games so expensive in Australia? Do game consoles/computer/computer parts also suffer from similarly high prices or just games?

Skyrim here (in Australia) will be $120.

Disgusting.

...and I'll still buy it...

ETA: How would you assess how much money we make? Generally things cost here more because shipping is still in archaic times when the Australian dollar was far weaker, so freight prices govern the cost. It's the same for music, books, and even concert tickets.

I've heard minimum wage is much higher in Aus than it is in the US.

And PC downloads don't have to be shipped (then again it could be about the whole fairness thing, couldn't sell a game in stores that is being sold for half the price online).

In the states basically every new game is $59.99. So that is what it will be, in other places it will be cheaper or more expensive. But in the United States 59.99 will be the price.

What? I'm going to pay 45.44€ no matter how much it "Costs", because that's how much it will cost for me. Unless I buy the epic super collectors FTW edition that is.

In AUS we will have to pay 100+ dollars and suffer a later release date as we always usually do. It's just the way things are...

Hopefully 60; I have a mental block to buying games that cost more...just like I do with shoes.

How long have games been priced at 50-60 dollars? Seems that inflation should have them higher now....guess that's why there's DLC.
