Do you think that the guards in Skyrim are a joke?

I wasn't expecting guards in Skyrim were so easy to kill in a one on one fight, especially on a Normal Difficulty game setting.

Guards in Oblivion put up a much better fight than what you get in Skyrim. I mean, if you're a low level and taking up a fight against a guard in Oblivion, they can give you a pretty difficult fight compared to fighting a guard in Skyrim if you are resisting arrest. In fact if you go up against an Oblivion Guard. Chances are they can kill you pretty easily. Even fighting a handful of them in the Imperial City can prove challenging.

As for Guards in Skyrim, no....to many easy kills especially if you're playing on an Expert Difficulty.

Does anyone else share my opinion that Skyrim guards are no where near in comparison to that of a Guard in Oblivion?

Yes, in oblivion, if I didn't have enough money to pay the fine my first thought was, how far back was my last save? I hope I remembered to save after ____. But in skyrim I can not pay the fine even if I have the money and I'm like, what's that? A fine? Nah, you can just die effortlessly instead.

Now that I'm on PC and can use console commands, I can see that Oblivion guards have a nice chunk of health to them. I've never had a character try to kill a guard in Skyrim (yet) but it could happen eventually.

Off-topic: One of the things I like about Skyrim's guards is they are pretty much the only PCs who say things in reaction to what our characters are doing, wearing, or carrying. They don't auto-repeat the same greeting as we pass by over and over and over and over....

It's related to the way they spawn in the two games. Guards in Oblivion spawn at player level +10 when you enter the area, every time the cell has reset, so their level can go up with you, if you're out of town long enough. In Skyrim, their level is set the first time you visit their town, and never goes up. Some of them have a fixed low level, too.

In both cases, they're stuck with the same equipment, so in Oblivion, they get "out-gunned" by bandits as the game progresses. At least in Skyrim, the bandits don't upgrade to Daedric!

Yeah, that gets annoying really fast, enough that my more evil characters kill them next time they say that just so they will stop.

The only way they can pose even the littlest threat is when there are like 20 - 50 of them.

So since I entered the hold with a character that was a level 1 at the time ( my character is level 154 now). That all of those guards will never advance at a level higher than that?

I wouldn't know. None of my characters has ever killed a guard that I can recall.
