Do you think the ending will be epic?

Post » Sat Sep 10, 2011 8:52 am

Morrowinds ending was a joke and Oblivions was DECENT but not satisfying to me in any way.

Do you think that Skyrim will deliver in an amazing story and great ending? Even Fallout 3 was laughable.

I think they have learned a lot over the years and will deliver.

I don't know about epic, but I'd lay down real money that it'll be very open-ended thus leaving room for TES VI...

The game ends with the Dragonborn discovering he is actually Sheograth and that it was all just a dream created by himself for no reason at all.

@OP: then what game endings were "epic", in your opinion?

*SPOILER ALERT*

I liked Oblivion's ending, I considered the final boss to be Camoran, not Dagon, so I felt it was hands-on and the very final little quest in the Imperial City was more like the final cinematic.
FO3, well, I didn't like that you "died", or forced the girl to die, so the very last choice was a bit of a let-down but the story overall was pretty good

As for MW, how was it not good? I don't know how anyone could say that, unless they just didn't pay attention to anything they were doing in the game?

I liked Fallout NV's ending. So many many variations...that literally told us that almost every little potentially miniscule action we made affected someone out there in the game.

At least we're not the sidekick this time while the big hero you've been escorting all over the place steals the show at the end.

No kidding.

You do all the work for the whole MQ, then Martin steals the glory at the end of the MQ line. I felt a little robbed, so I went and looted vampire lairs for equip I could sell and got rich to help myself feel better.

Worked for me.

WOO HOO!!! POST 400!!!!

I r a Curate now!

What am I curing? Am I curing then rating it? Am I the Curator of the Museum? jk. ;)

Definitely true, though I am really dreading how they handle Alduin. I will be greatly disappointed if he is defeated in some cheezy, anticlimactic way that makes him a joke. Dragonborn or no, it should be struggle.

How about the booming voice saying

"What a fool you are, I'm a God, how can you kill a God? What a grand and intoxicating innocence! How could you be so naive! There is no escape, no recall or intervention will work in this place. Come lay down your weapons, it is not too late for my mercy."

Always sends chills down my spine.

I was thinking the same thing... Those lines were awesome, the first time I heard it I was thinking oh crap why did I come here so soon.

I loved Morrowind's storyline and ending. Oblivion's story was okay, but I thought both of their endings were epic to be honest....

I also agree... Though Morrowind had a better story then Oblivion, the ending fight was a joke... Oblivion was a little bit better but still not so good~ i really hope Skyrim surprises us this time around~ but im not getting my hopes up.

I agree Morrowind's was weak, I liked Oblivion's ending though. But yes it could have been better.

Is there such a thing as a good ending for you?

That's what I'm wondering. Really though it's a matter of personal taste and opinion. With the exception of Daggerfall (since I never finished the main quest due to some bug), I personally enjoyed the endings of all the games so far. You didn't. To each his own I guess.

But I have to say, "epic" is such an overused and abused word these days.

No offense, but I kind of hate that kind of answer..as it can apply to many different aspects of the game. It gives them an excuse to skimp on something because they can count on some people not caring about it, when others do. :sadvaultboy:

My money is on the Dragonborn being Mehrunes Dagon. Prince of Ambition, breaking the dragon cycle.

Morrowind's ending was outstanding. The walk down Red Mountain under a starry sky was one of the best moments I've ever had in gaming. And the music for the last cutscene was gorgeous.

Oblivion's, on the other hand... :shakehead:

For an ending to be epic to me, storywise, it has to build up certain expectations along the way, to be turned completely on its head on the "end dialog" for something completely unexpected. A massive battle isn't epic, it's expected and (to me) just boring. Like during one of my FONV playthroughs, I managed to get an ending I most certainly didn't expect possible, and I was armed to my teeth for a major battle with the end boss - which didn't happen and I just went "whoa, holy hell, did that just happen?" - THAT was truly epic.

I'm sure the conclusions to all the quest lines will be cool. I'm not sure the player will actually be fighting Alduin, though. Maybe he's just got to throw the dragon horn into the lava in the bowels of Mt. Smaug or something.

What I'm hoping for in Skyrim is some recognition of what you've done by the people you've dealt with, so that after it's over, you can go to places and get hailed as a hero, even as you continue exploring the world.

as I said thats just my opinion, hehe, but sure if they manage to make a mainquest thats not boring as hell like Oblivion's mainquest im happy, but still I like faction quests a ton more. I guess Im not into the whole
save the world kinda thing, I just want to live in the world and and do what I want in it, and bethesda games gives me that choice and that makes me happy. The mainquest is often the last thing I do in an elder scrolls game anyway. That said I do think that if a mainquest is done right it can still be fun to play, but I hate that you always becomes a hero and a "good" guy with a happy ending. Bethesda really, and I do mean really should allow a darker ending, being evil should be an option and affect the ending.
