Fallout 3 had a good ending, despite all of the criticism. Oblivion's was pretty good, and Morrowind's was great. I suspect Skyrim's to have you killing Alduin, a plot twist within that, or something cool. Maybe becoming a dragon to kill Alduin?

nope.

1) They're trend isn't that good

2) After puting in hundreds of hours, what would be a suiting ending? Anything less than a few hours worth will seem trival. I think it's about scale.

The main quest isn't a few hundred hours, it's 30-40. A player who focuses on the main quest first will still have a whole lot of game left after the main quest is over.

I can see it now, our hero has defeated Alduin and decides to join the Companions ...

Guildmaster: So you want some work, huh? Well you are in luck. Old Lady Dauthmer is having some problems with rats in her basemant.
Dovahkiin: Rats?
Guildmaster: Yes, rats.

I will be upset if the Fighters' first quest isn't about rats. Oblivion had a nice twist--saving rats.

We're on a different page. I'm not sure how many folks play only the main quest straight through; my hunch is a low number. For most I'd wager that they put in double or triple. I usually go through many side quests and running up the guild as I go. The "game" is more than just the main quest.

Which is why one plays through the guilds as the rise in power, and not run the MQ straight through. Near as I can tell, you're kind of proving my point?

So again, I still the it's a question of scale. I don't know what a 3 hour ending would be like, but it should be at least that.

I'd be amused if Skyrim had multiple endings, a la Daggerfall. Afterall, this is Dovahkiin/Alduin. It's a Dragonbreak waiting to happen.

With lots of crazy writer ramblings and retcons in TES6.

I think it will be a great ending.

I only really know Oblivion's ending and it was kinda cheap so I expect a better ending.

No. The ending will be us frozen in place while we watch Esbern slice off Alduin's head. :pinch:

Maybe the tradition will continue with yet another twist that will feed into another of the forums obsessions ... wererats!

Tbh I loved OB's ending. Just stood there thinking "omfgitshugeandmassivesomgwut!" it was dramatic even though you just watched it. I wanted to stop Martin from sacrificing himself :sadvaultboy:
FO3 was good too, but I was sooooo annoyed at not being able to save and carry on as if the MQ had actually ended
Skyrim's will be awesome though. If you can fight dragons throughout the game normally I think the finale will be Alduin's massive eff off dragon. They'd have to step it up from the regular dragon fights though. The thought makes me all cushy inside

These games are not so much about how it ends, but the journey of how you get there.

Red Dead Redemption defines an epic ending.

Red Dead Redemptions ending defined really upsetting, disappointing and unfulfilling. I was mortified that Marston was still gunned down after everything. He was also one of the best video game characters ever.

Heres an idea Morrowind and Oblivions ending were at least canon
Fallout 3 and New Vegas's endings are borderline canon

The TES games don't really have endings anyways its just the end of the main quest to truly beat it don't you have to do everything there is to do? Unless I missed something on OB, I never "beat" MW cause too much reading for me back then.

As much as I love Morrowind (favorite game of all time), the ending was not very well done. Dagoth and his Ash Vampires turned out to be a bunch of pushovers. I don't recall losing even 1 HP against them, combined. Kept shooting drain attribute spells at me while I owned them with Sunder. Fighting in the heart chamber was a cool idea, just not handled well.... mostly due to limitations on the engine and Bethesda's dislike for cutscenes. Azura's gift to you at the end was probably the worst joke in the history of gaming too. I love Morrowind for a vast number of reasons, the end of the MQ is not one of them.

I enjoyed Oblivion's ending more. Not great, but at least my pure mage had to put some effort into the siege of the IC. Again, awful reward with the Dragon Armor. I think Mithril was better then it.

That being said, making an a game "EPIC!" for the sake of being epic is distasteful for me. Reminds me of a Michael Bay movie. And nothing, not even a video game, should be like a Michael Bay movie.

Well, my second character's gonna be a fist fighter...so the ending will probably take a few years. The ending will be epic simply because it'll be a race to see if I can ko Alduin before my xbox overheats.

I got a fan on standby. It's just how unconfident I am.

That was the point. They got you emotionally attached to Marston, then at the end they gun him down. It's supposed to make you actually feel something. That's something almost no game ever does.

Exactly. Most games and movies are too afraid to punch the player like that in an effective way.

Beth listens to their fan base more than any other games company I've ever heard of. I'm guessing they've taken everyone's wants and wieghed them out to see if they'll fit the final cut of Skyrim. I'm sure They know by now what we want from this story and they'll want nothing less than to deliver it.

Also, I liked F3's ending. What the hell was wrong with it? :stare:

But the true ending when you avenge him? Not epic enough for you? Honestly that game had it.
