Do you think the immersion will be diminished if you play as

No, it won't. Nords aren't the only race that can be Dragonborn. I could swear Uriel Septim VII and Martin were NOT Nords.

I think the legend is vague enough that any one can be Dragonborn. =)

I will have to see the races and the combat gameplay first before I decide what race I will be playing this time. I usually play mer races, so it would be interesting how the beast races would look like. ^_^

No. Obviously. You would be limiting yourself if you thought that.

My first character is going to be a Breton/Nord though.

I have always, always, always played as a Nord. Ever since Arena. It will be nice to finally come back to my home province after all these years! :)

this is why I always play as a human race. I can't picture a creature being the hero of the world some reason. maybe an elf, but I always just picture them being the side kick or hero's helper. =)

No, my immersion will be just fine regardless of what race I choose to play. Bethesda allows us to create a character of any race so why do we need to fit a mold? That said, I'm not a huge fan of playing human races (except bretons for magical purposes), so I likely won't be playing a nord anyway.

I've been a redhead female Breton since day one (as a main anyway) in Morrowind. I've since based all my main characters after her (whenever possible to make your own character such as Mass Effect, Fable, Fallout, Oblivion, etc...). And she will reincarnated in Skyrim and save the world once again. Her name is Synok and the first thing she did as Nereverine (sp?) was become the Arch Mage. lol Anyone else make the same character in multiple games (that is not based on yourself)?

I don't play the same character, though my main characters are ALWAYS family of my first Oblivion character. My Arena and Daggerfall characters were ancestors of him, and my Morrowind Nerevarine was his brother.

Back on topic, I don't think it'll kill immersion too much, but I'm playing as a Nord simply because I've grown accustomed to their barbaric and drunken ways.

I dislike racial stereotyping, so no I don't think it diminishes the immersion at all. My character will be a Khajiit dragonborn.

If anything it's "immersion breaking" to me when every race is pigeonholed into set roles. One of the things that impressed me when I first played this series with Oblivion was that races were not all fit into nice neat little character profiles and classes, such as the Khajiit in the Bruma mage's guild, etc.

For extra confusion it should be a female Argonian. :D

Exactly!

And besides...how would an Argonian casting a dragonshout be odd? It's all ready a lizard, wouldn't it make more sense for a lizard to be talking with a dragon rather than a nord?

I've always been a nord anyway for my first playthrough...no mater how much I hate the cold it always draws me back...so I'll be a nord again. Bruma was my favorite town... I'll feel most at home in Skyrim when compared to the other games. Blasted snow...

I thought everyone would be saying that the logical 'Dragonborn' race is Agonians. They are lizards after all. I will probably play as an Orc though.

New Neverar come from Imperial Prison, so he don't must be Dunmer(and propercy say that he don't know him parents,if i good remember). And if i good think DragonBorn is guy with dragons abillities ,so he too don't must to be Nord ,after all dragonborns (before our protagonist) was trained at hunting dragon ,not like our protagonist born with most of these abillities.

My God it's incredible how people's immershun is ruined by every little stupid thing but not affected at all by the fact that they are, in fact, controlling a fictional character via a piece of plastic with buttons on it. Mods, make immersion a banned word please.

Thank you.

I swear "immersion" is the most overrused word and the most fragile thing in the history of arguments/complaints/objections/concerns/miscellaneous comments on these forums.

Meh, the emperor looked like an imperial to me, and if Mankar Camoran could wear the amulet of kings, I'm guessing he was a dragonborn. Doesn't seem like the dragonborn has to be a Nord, after all in every other game you were a prisoner brought from a different land (well, except oblivion, you could have been from Cyrodiil then)

The lore says that not all Dragonborn are related to Nords or the Imperial line, but rather appear and disapear in various locations throughout history. And it's more of a power or talent than what's in your blood. One of the main roles of the Greybeards is to track these occurences and unravel the circumstances surrounding them. :spotted owl:
So no, any race being Dragonborn fits the lore perfectly.

I could be very very wrong, but I always assumed Mankar Camoran could wear the amulet because he as in his own created world or something.
