Do you think the immersion will be diminished if you play as

Was wondering because it would be hard to see an argonian or khajjit as the ''Dragonborn (btw no hate for beast race,I myself play as an Argonian) :D

It would be strange for me to see any other race than a dunmer being Nerevarine in Morrowind, so I always stuck to dunmer when doing the main quest in Morrowind. I guess Skyrim might be the same. :P

I always thought of nerevarine as being the outsider in a foreign land who the people come to respect eventually as he proves himself like Michael Douglas s character in Black Rain :P

Nah. I mean dragonborne is more likely to be a nord indeed, but really, as long as it's not a wood elf I'm ok with it XD

...if you think about it, it will. If you just play the game, you probably won't even notice really. Never really bothered me what race I played in either Morrowind or Oblivion. The Nerevarine could easily be Argonian, a nice big haha to those elves. The irony is golden.

For extra confusion it should be a female Argonian. :D

Awkward player here, I tend to go against the grain and play anything but the main race for a lot of the games.
Morrowind was fun as Dunmer, Oblivion just had no reason to play as an Imperial for me.
Skyrim ? who knows, but the shear amount of Bearserkers running around here using dragon shouts may bring out my lust for playing a delicate dainty elf.

The lore says that not all Dragonborn are related to Nords or the Imperial line, but rather appear and disapear in various locations throughout history. And it's more of a power or talent than what's in your blood. One of the main roles of the Greybeards is to track these occurences and unravel the circumstances surrounding them. :spotted owl:
So no, any race being Dragonborn fits the lore perfectly.

Listen to this man...bunny....thing. He has a owl, and he is correct.

I never thought this in Morrowind or Oblivion so I don't see why I would in Skyrim.

In my own personal "cannon" I consider the Nerevarine to be an Argonian. It just seems fitting. Especially when you consider it is the Nerevarine who strikes down the tribunal and puts Helseth on top. (Helseth later abolishes slavery) Not to mention it's the Nerevarine's actions that lead to the fall of Morrowind and its destruction. Though I really blame Vivec and Nerevar for that.

And in turn I'm fairly certain I'm going to make my "cannon" Dovahkiin a Dunmer. That fits for me because he will be coming from a broken people and it will be kind of a repayment for the Nords allowing the Dunmer (their ancient enemies) to come settle and build a city in Skyrim (one of the foreign mags said that. Don't remember which)

As for the Champion of Cyrodiil, the Hero of Daggerfall and the Eternal Champion I haven't really decided my own "cannon" for them. No race really "fits" better than another for them in my opinion.

I usually play as a Dunmer in Morrowind, too... But I'm starting to think the Nerevarine is considered "Dragonborn" as well, so "Dragonborn" being limited to just human races is definitely untrue canon-wise.

"From seventh sign of eleventh generation,
Neither Hound nor Guar, nor Seed nor Harrow,
But Dragon-born and far-star-marked,
Outlander Incarnate beneath Red Mountain,
Blessed Guest counters seven curses,
Star-blessed hand wields thrice-cursed blade,
To reap the harvest of the unmourned house."
- The Lost Prophecies

Came upon this on my playthrough yesterday. Back when Morrowind came out, "Dragon-born" was taken to mean "born under an Imperial banner"... But perhaps, in light of what we know, there's something more to it?

I think I'll probably play as either a Nord of an Imperial during my first playthrough, I'm not sure yet.

LOL :lmao: . Owls and bunnies come together nicely, especially since it's the year of the Rabbit (by the Japaneese calendar)

So what Imperials are classified as dragon people in spirit now?

Well I usually play as a pale Dunmer and I sorta think of him as half-Dunmer and half-Breton or maybe half-Nord. So it aint a big issue for me :) I'll definitely make my very first Nord character ever though.

Hmm, I've only noticed now that they're the same. I used to asume they were different  . Now that I've checked, it's the Vietnamese calendar I was thinking about when I though of the Chinese one.

Racist! D:

LoL, anyway, I always played Dunmer race and always will.
If I ever find troubles with immersion, I will just say to myself that I'm actually a bastard child of some Nord who was a Dragonborn, but had a thing for Dunmer women. :D

Not really, the Nerevarine prophesy was intentionally vague on that, it said Outlander and I believe it also said the Nerevarine may not be of Dunmer descent, don't quote me on that last part though, it's been a while.

Anyway, no. I don't think so at all. I'm almost guaranteed to play as a Dunmer the first time, unless Orcs are crazy awesome this time. If I do play my Dunmer then he's a character that has travelled the entire world for the last 200 years or so, so I don't see it as weird that he would end up in Skyrim, especially not given that it borders Morrowind and that so many Dunmer fled there. If I play an Orc, then he will likely be a warrior wanting to test and prove himself in battle, and Skyrim is a very hostile environment where only the strong survive, which makes it the perfect place for a character like that.

So in short, no I don't.

Sure it would make sense for the hero to be a Nord, but... they're humans. Been there, done that, got the bellybutton :D

My quest to make as many khajiits legendary heroes as possible shall continue! Bow to your superior furlickers! :hehe:

Y'know I might join you in that. I played as a Breton in Oblivion and an Imperial in my Morrowind first playthoughs, but I might well enjoy playing as the last proud member of a dying race. Overall I've mostly played Imperials for soldiering and Dunmer for magicians and assassins.

Plus I have a sort of loyalty to the Dunmer after absorbing into their culture in Morrowind, so I might be some sort of Cammona Tong/Dagoth lone wolf hybrid, fighting to establish a new Resdayn in the land of our enemies.

No way! First time round I played a Bosmer in Morrowind, then a Dunmer in Oblivion. I'll be playing Skyrim as a Dunmer, providing they don't have the same stupid voiceset as they did last time.

Although I went back and played Morrowind as a Dunmer and then there was no return...
