By the time I get to Primm I'm sitting on 34,000 caps, so I don't mind.

I usually don't have more than 20-25k at any one time, but yeah...

Fine with me. With Arwen's Tweaks the scarcity of ammo makes each bullet/case truly valuable. That coupled with the higher prices makes it all the more realistic.

I don't like the increased ammo prices, but it makes sense.

You probably got to Primm before level 10, in which case, I don't see how you got that much without the use of glitches.

I'm fine with it, it just means I scavenge more and take a bit longer to line up my shots to make sure they connect. One thing though, I'm surprised that 5mm ammo is still only worth one cap considering how much more powerful it is now. It also seems to come to me in great quantities in ammo boxes, I only just got to Primm in my new game and I have 365 5mm bullets, I haven't spent a dime on 5mm ammo either.

Both weapons that use 5mm still do relatively little damage per shot, so you really rip through the reserves quickly even in normal combat.

That's why it makes sense to me that 5mm is cheap. Unless you use the Assault Rifle, the Minigun (The only gun to my knowledge that uses 5mm in NV save the Assault Rifle). I mean, the Minigun eats through ammo like crazy.

It's hard to balance the prices for the very start of the game vs. the amount of caps that can be had relatively quickly or by mid-game, depending on one's playstyle.
Maybe they should rise dramatically at certain chr levels or plot points...inflation & increasing scarcity from the demands of the upcoming fight etc. ;)

Well that sounds like what a single script can do.

It should involve the fBarterBuyBase and fBarterBuyMult game settings and changing it when you complete this quest and making it stick each time you load up a game.

This is purely a guess though.

(In response to gillyman)

I'm glad they raised the value of ammunition. If anything, ammo should cost even more. In Fallout 1 & 2, ammo costs a hell of a lot. Ammo is practically the new gold in the wasteland.

Hardly gold...there are organized States now, and firearms ammo is being mass-produced. Seeing how the Mojave has rail links to the NCR, ammo may not be dirt cheap but should be affordable.

Do you think we could have a scoped .45-70 single shot rifle? I know you want us to use the AMR, but they're soulless and I find it rather boring. I'd also like a scoped Cowboy rifle that I don't have to attack a good NPC to get my hands on.

I like the change, in a wasteland teeming with all manner of beasties and raiders, ammunition is a valuable commodity that merchants will naturally charge highly for.
If I'm not mistaken weapon mods are also quite a bit more expensive too.

Where can you find .38 special? I never see anybody sell it.

I really don't care about increased prices, the only thing I ever spend caps on is really....nothing. I just scavenge everything to be perfectly honest. I'll buy ammo if I need to, especially for my explosives build, but thats it.;

As of the new patch, vendors should carry .38 Special as Ammo (previously they were only purchased in Misc boxes).

The ones in Primm. I get there, rescue Beagle, reprogram Slim, wait three days, off those mercs who show up in Vicki and Vance, wait three more days, and use my Luck to win all the blackjack prizes and then slots til I see three oranges for 34,000 caps total. About 8/10 I get trip oranges on the very first pull.

But you said BEFORE I got to Primm. That means somewhere between Goodsprings and Primm, not IN Primm.

No, I said BEFORE; Azula clearly said BY THE TIME he gets to Primm, he has 30k+ caps. You really put Luck that high every time, without even getting an implant?

"By the time he gets to Primm" means that he's aquired it before entering Primm.
If it was "Once I'm at Primm I get 30k+ caps." then it'd be different.

i kinda dislike the price raise ...

It's those damned NCR taxes, I tell ya. Greedy bastiches.

It doesn't bother me. You have to try pretty hard to run out of ammo and money in this game, even at low levels.

Yeah as of now I have about 54,000 caps and roughly 3,600 .308 JSP rounds for This Machine so as someone else stated it gets to an obnoxious and unrealistic point. Now it'll be a bit harder at least.
