Do you think the Skyrim release date will be delayed?

Post » Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:56 am

It seems like a lot of new AAA video games get delayed once or twice from the original proposed date, even when the developers seem confident in the release date. What do you guys think the chances of a delay are? I'd be pretty pissed off if Skyrim gets delayed considering its been over 5 years since Oblivion and all.

P.S. Hope the thread title doesn't scare anyone thinking it did get delayed

Things targeted at wacky dates (like 11/11/11) don't generally get delayed, since they've invested so much in hitting that date. So I really don't expect it.

I knew this thread wasn't going to show news about Skyrim actually being delayed, but it's a crap title nonetheless.

There's a chance it gets delayed, always. But I'm not seeing it happen unless the building gets hit by a meteor two months before release. They've been very confident about the whole thing. And otherwise I'll hold http://i.imgur.com/HojKD.jpg against them. :P

Zero chance; last minute emergency changes would be put into the the patch.

They have been so dead set on 11.11.11 so I would expect that to be the day of release, but anything can happen between now and then that may make a delay unavoidable.

I voted 0-25%

last minute changes would be put in the next patch unless they are large changes like adding weight to carrots then the game would be delayed... I would say below 25% chance that Skyrim would be delayed,

I firmly believe the game will be done at least 2 weeks in advance and they're just holding out for the date.

I imagine it's possible, but by this point the game finished in terms of story and quests.
They're going to spend the next five months tweaking everything to work better, which is a far better circumstance than if they were to release it now with certain mechanics not tested to their fullest extent.

Yes a delay can happen at anytime. Nobody guaranteed 11/11/11 is when skyrim will be released.

DISCLAIMER: RELEASE DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Oblivion was supposed to come out in 2005, I believe.

I love it how many people say it's impossible.

I can think of of many reasons why the game would be delayed.

It's unlikely, but definitely not impossible.

Everything is possible. Shouldn't of added that option. I think a strong 5 percent chance is good. I mean, they are just tweaking, fixing the bugs. All that. I'm very confident. (Mind you, those AAA games were developed for not nearly as long as Skyrim, err most of them)

Guys, if Skyrim is cancelled, don't kill yourselves. Please. I mean there's still the previous TES games and the RPGs that have come out this year such as Deus Ex HR which will be coming out soon.

Okay, I jest. Though if someone did kill themselves due to a delay or cancel (which is doubtful)...I'd be surprised...seriously.

Same....

But really I doubt there will be any delays. I think they are dead set on that date, and I don't think they would make that claim in the first place if they didn't have quite a bit of confidence.

What svcks is... Where I work I'll be seeing Skyrim... possibly holding it in my hands about a week before it comes out.... If that isn't torture, I don't know what is.

Obviously I'm in the minority, but I honestly believe the chances of a delay are above 50%. If New Vegas is any indication of how difficult it can be to keep on schedule, then delays are inevitable. (Please don't try and tell me that new Vegas wasn't developed by Bethesda, I know full well who did, so keep your comments to yourself).
