Do you think the staff should be added?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:32 am

I have ALWAYS been a fan of a staff like weapon in any role-playing game. In star wars it was the duel-bladed lightsaber. In Runescape it ws the halberd. Ect. And I have always wanted a staff-like weapon to appear in an Elder-Scrolls game. Maybe it could have a short blade at the end of it like a polearm. I also do not see why it shouldn't be added. They have swords, axes, maces, hammers, bows, ect.... why not a staff?

or would you rather just have a spear?

edit: I am not reffering to a magic staff, but like a quarterstaff. there has been a litle bit of confusion about that.

It looks like someone is not paying attention here. :). It's a wand, not a staff.

I'm assuming you're referring to the magic staff that he's dual wielding with the sword. I think the OP is referring to more of a quarterstaff that you'd hit people with (think Kilik in the Soul Calibur games).

If they were added I'm fairly certain they wouldn't have their own fighting styles attached to them. They'd probably be lumped in with the rest of the polearms, like they were in Morrowind. So it'd be nice to see them, but it won't make a huge gameplay difference overall.

The trailer already shows the player holding on in the left hand, that casts magic, IMO, a more important question is how is it different from casting magic with your bare hand?

Also if you want your poll to be treated serious, don't add silly option.

Spears over staffs. I'm not a magic user so staffs are not too useful to me.

a staff would probably increse the amount of damage done by the spell

A staff-like weapon? Are you referring to bow staff fighting? If not, the trailer shows the player using the staff to cast a spell like in Morrowind.

But I would like to see staves for combat as well as enchantments. And spears. But I like options, more options means more roles to play!

Wands are small, they are usually a foot in length at most, and are very thin, like a stick.
A one handed staff, often called a rod, is a short staff, 2-3 feet in length, but much wider than a wand, typical diameter would be comparable to a regular staff.

That staff in the trailer looked too thick and crooked to be a wand. The way its held also shows that there is length beyond the wrist, which is how a rod would be held, in the middle of the rod, whereas a wand is held at the end.

Personally I have my fingers crossed for spears making a return.

As well as maybe some one handed short spears? I think that would be epic to duel wield two of those!
