Do you think it will just be 5 cities?

Or will they include some small settlements and towns like those found in Morrowind? I looked back at the map of Skyrim and counted seven named locations.

Its pretty much all but confermed. Look at that map that they let us get a good look at in the tour. All those dots are suposidly some form of town or settlement.

Hopefully the smaller towns are not like the little settelments in Oblivion, they were pretty pointless apart from the occasional quest in my opinion

All those colored and gray squares are towns, cities, and settlements.

Of course there will be smaller settlements.

EDIT: Ah crap, I answered the poll based on the question in the thread title, so I said no since I think there will be a good number of small towns.

Agreed! When I first went by them I didnt even think of them as settlements. I just thought they were farms or something since there is nothing really unique about them.

If those squares are all the towns and settlements in the game that is not a good sign, far fewer than even Oblivion. God forbid those are caves and ruins too!

Hopefully the 5 major cities are Imperial City sized or larger then the towns are more like Oblivion cities...That map makes Skyrim look REALLY small, like NV small...*shudder*

There are more than five cities in Skyrim, and there are clearly settlements on the map apart from the five "massive" cities, so yes, there are going to be smaller settlements.

Silly poll. OF course they will include smaller settlements, question is, how well will they pull them off?

The number of blocks each one occupies is almost definitely the rough size of the settlement. Assuming the map is probably larger than Cyrodill, that means MUCH more area covered. What about the map makes it look small? It's just a drawing, the mountains are not actually that size and shape.

Todd stated there would be "five massive cities." He didn't say they were going to be the only cities in Skyrim, as that would just be silly. Expect many villages and towns along the way in your journeys.

There are 5 major cities but there are plenty of villages and small settlements. I mean they even showed one of the villages in GI.

I think with all the new mundane activities we'll be able to do (cooking, chopping wood, smithing, etc.), it will be easier to provide more activities in the smaller settlements. Of course, I'm hoping for more quests involving them as well.

I'm pretty sure they'll have small villages outside of the main 5 cities but I hope the villages are bigger then the ones in Oblivion.

They didn't specifically state it as such, which is why I made this topic.

The way they said it in the magazine made it seem like they were making less so they could make them massive. In Oblivion there were really only cities. Having three houses formed in a circle around a well doesnt really count as a village so I dont think its really a common sense thing considering Oblivion lacked proper ones.

Twice as many people working on Skyrim as Oblvion and one more year. You do the math.

I think those on the map are just bigger towns like at least ten houses. There'll obviously be lots of inns and farms along the roads.
