Do you think it would be cool to have a fallout in canada?

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 4:23 pm

In Fallout 3 theres a letter in a mailbox that reads telling the receiver that the vault they requested is currently full and that they will have to be put on a waiting list for it. And also that they suggest that they try somewhere else like Utah or recently annexed Canada that has vaults that are not on a waiting list. I was thinking this might point to a future fallout that takes place in canada. And i want to know would you like this or would you sit outside Bethesda's building and protest it. Also what you think they would have in it mutated moose from hell?

Canadians will vote first, non canadians will vote second or third, simple. I voted "No" because there are too few people in canada (according to it's size) and it would be better to let them all die rather than trying to save them.

Canada lacks monuments and points of interest. That's just my opinion.

Yes, very cool; cold even

I could see having areas that were once Ocean, now arid ( Either freezing or hot, just imagine if the nukes (or perhaps the death-ray) changed the climate a bit); Maybe find an uncovered viking settlement, or a beached submarine... I think given the closeness to Fallout 3, that parts of Canada could be there, but not as central focus.

I think Canada is fair game. Like you said, it was annexed, so the same groups of people could still be moving around. I think Toronto was sort of hinted at in MZ
Spoiler
since you could blow it up -- plus there was the big glowing polar ice cap nearby, which is very mysterious.

edit: Louisiana? Aren't you guys already living in the world of FO3? You guys eat neutra rats for breakfast, right?

Having real-world monuments and points of interest isn't exactly a requirement for a Fallout game. Fallout 1 has none, Fallout 2 has one.

I say yes. It was annexed by US so the anti-communist feeling should still be there, and there is a [censored] load of potential for it since Canada doesnt play a big role in the series, and vaults where built there (at least thats what the note said).

Considering that it was annexed by the US, it's likely that there's anti-American sentiment there, too. They never said that Canada choose to be annexed, did they?

Imagine war raging all along the former US/Canada border. That would be pretty awesome.

True. But the same old enemies have the potential to be in Canada. Woot for the Deathclaw in Canada!!! I wonder if SM would have accents and such...

Actually, a quick search of the wiki reminded me that Fallout 1 had an image of an American soldier shooting a captured Canadian in the back of the head, while saying "Our dedicated boys keep peace in newly annexed Canada."

It seems that Canada didn't want to allow American troops access to their country in the Fallout universe, so America conquered it so they could defend Alaska and it's oil and natural gas.

(In real life, Canada and America have treaties that allow the other's military to operate in their borders, although obviously this very rarely happens.)

More Canada-themed information from the Fallout wiki:

2059

* The Anchorage Front Line is established, as the United States increases its military presence in Alaska to protect its oil interests. The Anchorage Front Line causes tensions in the United States and Canada, as the United States attempts to pressure Canada into allowing American military units to guard the Alaskan pipeline.

2066

* Winter: As a sign of increasing tension between the two countries, Canada proves reluctant to allow American troops on Canadian soil or allow American planes to fly over Canadian airspace. The United States and Canadian tensions rise, but Canada eventually backs down, and U.S. troops pass through Canada. This sets the stage for the Canadian annexation (which occurs in 2076).

2069

* Canada begins to feel the pressure from the United States military as the U.S. draws upon Canadian resources for the war effort. Vast stretches of timberland are destroyed, and other resources in Canada are stretched to the breaking point. Many Americans refer to Canada as Little America, and Canadian protests are unheard.

2072

* The United States' increasing demand for Canadian resources causes protests and riots in several Canadian cities. An attempted sabotage of the Alaskan pipeline is all the military needs as an excuse to begin its annexation of Canada...which in fact had already begun in 2067.

2075

* The House of Representatives and Congress both voted unanimously to impeach the President for jaywalking. Both houses stated that the President is not above the law and should have known better than to jaywalk. Both sides deny this had anything to do with the recent annexation of Canada.

2076

* January: The United States annexation of Canada is complete. Canadian protesters and rioters are shot on sight, and the Alaskan Pipeline swarms with American military units under the command of Buzz Babcock. Pictures of atrocities make their way to the United States, causing further unrest and protests.

2077

* January 22: The first domestic use of Power Armor within the United States for crowd and quarantine control. Units originally serving in China and the Anchorage Front Line find themselves fighting Americans at home. Food riots increase, and many civilians are killed. Several soldiers defect from the military both in Canada and the United States. They are captured, and are sent to military prisons.

Well they'd have to hire some Canadians because the average ignorant american has absolutely zero geographic knowledge when it comes to other countries. They'd be arriving at the border with ski's and snow equipment in the middle of july asking "WHEREZ ALL DA BLIZZARDS AT YALLs?"

The U.S. wouldn't be able to annex Canada anyways. There's more chinese people here then actual Canadians. We've already been pretty much annexed by china.

Besides the premise of U.S. and China going to war is ludicrous in the current economic climate.

If it weren't for chinese loans the U.S. would be in even deeper trouble economically then it is. Can't goto war with the country whose paying your bills can you.

How is the "current economic climate" relevant to the Fallout world?
