So You Think You Can RP

...right...

Anyway, as a resource, http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=722112&hl=Dragonblood is a link to the opening post of Thread II of Dragonblood, the RP that I used the Dramatis Personae sheet in. As a note to RP moderators who want to use this technique: beware the very high yet still existent character limit on a single forum post. You may have to either attach the DP sheet or the Thread Summary on a different post, as I had to do in the linked thread.

Also, a note to newbies: THE LINKED THREAD IS 1 YEAR OLD! DO NOT REVIVE IT! THANK YOU!

We subsituted the elegant version for the more mechanical bullet format...I mean...it works, us so called "war" guys don't need any fancy [censored]. All that spacing takes up the invisible character slots the post would allow anyway.

-----------------------------
Back to business, am I the only person who realizes that everyone is blatantly disrespectful to there superiors in roleplays? To the unrealistic point of where you know an "Off with the head!" would have been issued. Topic that should be discussed.

Its actually become a rare thing to find a loyal character now days. Everyone has there own agenda.

Well it's still here for people to post at isn't it?
I think that if the Newbies don't then they're just going to post topics on the actual Subforum rather than asking them here; where they should. So, all Newbies, I think should feel free to post here :D

And please-anyone reading this-stop it with the cross-raced characters. It just doesn't work. Believe me, I've tried it, and it is lame.

Eh, I think--if there is one thing I have never in my life been good at--is making character names. And I know the difference between a good name and a bad one. Can't think of any good ones--again, hard to. But here's a list of bad ones:
Dark-anything
Shadow-anything
Anything with four letters and one syllable.
Anything purposefully related to modern day pop-culture.
Nicknames like bonehammer or whatever aren't names and actual role-playing characters should not be called warhammer or anything similar. Just lame. Really!

Actually, you can put Dark and Shadow into names and make them sound decent. It's just mainly with Nords though. For instance, Bjoran Shadow-hand, or Volden Dark-heart.

Edit. I suppose Argonians could get away with is also. Strikes-from-Shadows or Likes-the-Dark.

Those are Imperial names for Argonians though. I suppose the Nordic names are ok.

I find your opinion disturbing, the fact that you've tried something and.. It was.. Lame? Means that now.. People should stop it, just because you couldn't actually roleplay that character properly..?

Right, I guess that would make sense, I'd just have to take several jabs of Heroin first.

Besides, like Crazyjoker said, shadow and dark can work, sure; it's not easy to find a good name with those in them, as alot of people like to have 'Cool' or 'Meaningful' names because it makes their character appear better in their opinion. But, it is possible.

Now suppose your character is an Argonian named Swims-in-Shadows, and his job is to swim around at night and scout around an enemy harbor and find out the positions of their ships.

So, if an Argonian's job is to swim in the dark, is it alright for him to be nicknamed Swims-in-Shadows?

No, because at night, there are no shadows, just no light.

I don't see why not. I actually like your Argonians name. It's creative and it suits him. :goodjob: I'm a big fan of funny names for Argonians, such as, Smells-Like-Fish or Sings-Real-Bad.

Players can name there players whatever they wish.

Back to Uber characters.

There is a different level of maturity with the Uber characters with good writers. For instance in our Siege of Sentinel, it would be different if I played a powerful telvanni wizard compared to Immortal Blood's Serosi.

If you're in the roleplay you know what i'm saying. He is 'good' with uber characters whereas Gerald Duval likes playing the seriously flawed un-uber characters who are actually uber in their own way. Septimus Aquila is a frail/sickly nord who happens to be a military genius.

Not to poke anyone but firstly, there is a difference between what's fun and what's aweful role-playing.

Secondly, unless the name is actually a nickname, I don't think many parents name their children something like Swims-in-shadows.

Serosi has obvious strengths with not so evident weaknesses.

It's his nickname, not his real name. And, I'm still kicking myself for giving him that name, but I was (even more of) an amateur at the time.
You're right, who would name their kids something like that? That would just be stupid.

I'd say Serosi. He's a one man nuke who can take on an Ansei. He's never gotten hurt at all in a fight in the RP to date.
Septimus is a drunken nord who's been having unpleasant things happening to his face lately (losing an ear, taking an arrow to the head...)

Apparently you know nothing of Argonian culture, or you would not have made such a statement.

If the names are lore-reasonable, they are fine. Swims-In-Shadows is a perfect Argonian name that would certainly be given to him during the licking ceremony, or whatever psuedo-licking ceremony is performed outside of Black Marsh.

 Like I said, didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Once again, someone could change their name, I can't imagine someone's mum naming him "Blade-In-The-Crowd" or something.

Actually, in the case of Argonians, that could be their first name, since their naming conventions don't have them named at birth, and such "Blade-In-The-Crowd" or "Thinks-He's-sixy" or "Swims-In-Shadows" or "Licks-The-Trees" could be a pronounceable translation of their hist name.

You need to visit TIL and read up on your Lore, mate. http://www.imperial-library.info/

You shouldn't rp a race without a basic to decent knowledge of the race lore.

:shakehead: Could you show me where I've role-played as an Argonian?

Edit: Secondly, TIL is in my favorites. :P

Edit2: Well I know why it might be called a hist name now but it still holds my end of the argument.

That's why I stick to Dunmer, Imperial, and Bosmer characters... I know them better than anything else.

Hey, what can we do about maps? I've been thinking: a lot of RPs would be easier if there were maps of the general game zone. Examples: a dungeon crawl could use a simple blue-print of the dungeon, or if you want to get specific, a map of settlements and stuff would be VERY useful in TES: Fallout.

So, I thought of something... What if we had a map thread? Like, a thread to request maps in? I know a few players here are quite skilled at maps, and a lot of us are able to at least do simple schematics. (I myself lack the know-how to make and upload a map...) So maybe people needing a map can post a request and link their thread. Anybody interested in doing the map can offer their services, and the person in need of the map can PM them a description of what they want illustrated.

Just a thought...

Yeah it does sound like a good idea, but in places where present maps are a little dated? How would this work? Just make something new?
