[PC Users Only] Do you use console commands?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 11:47 pm

You sound mad because your not having fun since you follow the rules.

This game is about having fun. I hate having to wait so long for ebony ore to come back. Solution: Skip days :D

Mad? lol. I love Skyrim, I mastered all the schools of magic then went out with my medicore fighting skills and took on giants just for the challange. I devised strategies for clearing out bandit camps while I had only 30 or 40 levels in 1handed swords and was level 50, with no perks in swords. It can take a while to kill a bandit chief at level 50, when you are only doing 15 damage a hit.

its about the challange, and cheating takes away all the sense of victory of beating the odds if you cheated. Its called Honor.

You're over doing it. It's a videogame= Abandon all honor before entering

I admit I've used TCL when going round and round a mountain trying to find my way to the top.

I've also fiddled around with perks when I realized the ones I picked weren't any good.

Mostly though I've used it to fix those stupid quest items that won't go away and the occasional setstage command to fix a broken quest.

I forgot to take the Spider Control Rod and now it's too late... so yeah i would.

I'm so glad I have no idea what half these commands listed even do, I haven't used it yet and refuse too. I've mastered almost half the skills without using half my perks, level 62, 30 unused perks and about 8 mastered skills. Its a much sweeter victory when you get there through honest work rather then cheating. I still haven't even seen a need to cheat, companions are more an annoyance then helpful, horses tend to bug out dragons and some other monsters as they target your horse instead of you. Gold? why? I haven't sold hardly anything i've looted and just dump it into chests in the college and I still have over 120,000 gold just from completing quests.

Once you use the console to edit your character, you can never say you beat the game honorable, you cheated, and it takes away all the glory and self satisfaction of having beaten the game within its own system of rules.

This is all for fun, or for fixing the game. For me at least. It has nothing to do with "cheating" in my games. Try spawning 20 dragons at Markarth just to watch the carnage. You need tgm (god mode) to be able to enjoy it. Or tfc (toggle free camera) so they don't attack you as you watch.

Indeed I do.

tcl
tfc
tgm
coc
disable
enable
kill
resurrect
save
prid
moveto player
player.placeatme
player.removeperk
showracemenu
player.additem

It's fun to play.

TCL sometimes if a mountain is pissing me off.

I've got to admit I do this sometimes also

Only with my warrior builds, and only when it looks for all the world like the way I'm going is a path to the shrine/dragon at the top, then it turns out that I have to go all the way around the mountain just to make it that last 15 feet :banghead:

The reason I only do it with my warrior is because when I've got someone who uses magic I've got clairvoyance out at all times showing me the path to where I'm going. One of the most useful spells in the game for navigating the mountains.

Not in a short-cut sense.

But I'll use it if I want to tweak my character instead of starting all over. Or to adjust the time scale, or to purge cells.

I did in the other games, but I've learned the ways of self-control. After I finish the MQ, Mages' College and Theives guild I might mess around in them though.

Those using the console to actually cheat might as well play on easy, that's not an insult btw, when I want easy going I have a separate character saved away I use on easy level.

Eh, not really. Mostly I just use it to tweak my characters appearance a bit, or to disable a corpse that hasn't despawned in forever.

I only use two console commands. "Save' so I can sort out all my saves by unique name. And 'showracemenu' to play with my character's appearance and such.

You can disable the console through the ini file if you really have that weak of a will.

Only used one, one time, the walk through walls one so i could get back in the embassy. Because although i did pick-up the unusual gem at some point I found out it was not the save i continued with.

Hey one more question, and I don't want to make this forum a mess by posting another thread so:

Any tips on making a new stealth class? How do I even keep the save files separate? Also, what did you think of my video?

Thank You

TFC to detach the camera whenwaiting without the wait command.
TFC 1 to check if that shape on the distant mountain top is a building, or to take action shots.
TCL when i get stuck.
TAI (targeted on companion) when i need to sneak up on a powerful enemy without my comapnion giving me away.
Moveto player when she gets lost or after i take a shortcut.
TIM when i really don't want get killed by a random encounter when not having saved in 10 minutes. Immortal mode, ammo, mana, stamina and health drain normally, but you cannot die.
Kill when an enemy is cheating.
Killall when all enemies are cheating.

I use the basic commands like tcl, tm and such a lot. I don't usually use it to cheat.

TCL have been used if I have manged to gotten stuck and cannot move, have also used TGM a few times, but normally cheat codes are off limits as it does ruin the fun a bit. Oh and quests that have bugged out I have fixed by console if necessary.

As a min-max player, it is insanely difficult not to use the console. Mostly when one realizes the effort required to get Alchemy to level 100.

I have used the console in the past , once or twice in Fallout 3 to kill off an Overlord or a Reaver but it wasn't long afterwards that I just felt I was cheating myself really, there was no sense of achievement so I ended up going back to previous save. In Skyrim I have only used it like Swollenrabbit to use the tcl command when stuck. Also to use the tm command for when I want to take screenshots. Haven't needed it for a quest fix yet, if I'm tempted to use it to cheat I'll remember the FO3 experience and again realise it will spoil the game for me

I use tcl when i realise that there's a huge mountain blocking my way and that i would have to take forever to go around it :D
Also when im pissed at someone in a city; use tgm and kill the person over and over again.

I haven't needed to yet, but would if I did. I was a showracemenu addict in Oblivion, always tweaking my characters' features.

player.setscale (1 is default. I used 0.97 for my Dunmer and 1.15 for my Orsimer. It's crazy how little numbers can cause big change in the character scale.)
set timescale to 8 (30 is default)
showracemenu (for the little cosmetic changes like hair, war paint, or scars)

Right now TCL if I'm stuck.

May use the companion leveling trick as I progress. I'm getting attached to them.

Showracemenu quite a bit because I like to progress how I look as my character and role progress.

I can see myself playing around with spawns and creating my own fights and carnage after I've played for a while more. That's just playing in a sandbox with the tools available to me and far from 'cheating.'

Just bugfixes and beautification for me.

tm - All the time for screenshots. Unless the UI adds something to the image by having it in, I use this to turn it off before taking the screeny.
tcl - A couple times to grab an alchemy ingredient which is embedded in the terrain/scenery and not grabable. Turn on tcl, fly through the obstacle, grab the alchemy ingredient from below, fly back up, turn off tcl.
addperk/removeperk - I thought the perk for bonus damage with a standing power attack would apply to dual-wielding power attacks, which are always done while standing. Nope. Removeperk to remove the wasted perk, addperk to put it somewhere more useful that was open to me.
I also used this to pick up Daedric smithing after getting Dragon smithing by removing the point I subsequently put in Dwemer smithing and added Daedric instead. This essentially means I came down and around through Dragon smithing to get Daedric. Seems wrong to me that taking the light armor path only gets you the best armor for that path while the heavy armor path gets the best armor AND the best weapons. So this way I can spend the point on Daedric in a way that feels more natural.
fov - The default is way too low for a first person view. I set this to 70.
removeitem - To deal with Lydia's tendency to spawn 6 (yes, six) Hunting Bows in her inventory, instead of using the Glass Bow I gave her, which also meant she wasn't carrying as much ore and dragon bones as she could be. Also to deal with bugs that don't remove quest items from the player inventory when the quest is completed.
disable/enable - To deal with Lydia's (and all followers') painful underleveling bug.
