[PC Users Only] Do you use console commands?

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 6:15 am

I feel like I don't know where to stop. I like mining ore for armor then selling it, but it takes too long to replenish, so I set the time to go by at like 15 days per second, then I go back. Why stop there? Why not just spawn a bunch of ebony ore? Why stop there? Why not just spawn a bunch of ebony armor? Why stop there? Why not just spawn a bunch of gold?

THIS IS TOO MUCH. FUNCTIONING NOT BRAIN WELL.

Sidenote: If you have the time, I made a short video of a bunch of mammoths invading the outer part of Whiterun, I used no console commands or cheats for it. Thanks

Why not just spawn a bunch of gold?

Because its not fun? (Well, I suppose it might be for a bit, but will be less fun in the long run.)

I use console commands, but not to spawn things or gain super powers, just to tweak stuff. I like my 100 degree fov - really, I can't even watch people play with the puny stock fov any more, it makes me motion sick. Sometimes whne I'm sniping folks, I'll set the FOV down to like 30 degrees - seems almost like cheating, but its actually pretty dangerous because you miss so much peripheral vision. My character is modeled on a table top PC, so his stats are a bit off from normal, as follows (note - p = player) :
p.setscale 1.3
p.forceAV Mass 2.2
p.forceAV UnarmedDamage 13
p.forceAV MovementNoiseMult 1.3
p.forceAV speedmult 130
p.forceAV CarryWiegth 260 (starting value @ 100 stamina, not final)
p.forceAV MagikaRate 2.3

I've used TCL and TGM a couple times, but that's it. :brokencomputer: Sometimes invisible walls form around you and you have to TCL your way past them. As far as TGM is concerned, I only used it once or twice.

I use tcl when I get stuck, I use getav a lot to see what my companions are good at, I use moveto constantly to keep my follower from falling behind. I also use setav to speed my horses up and give them unlimited stamina. I adjust my timescale and fov. But I don't normally do anything that really effects gameplay, I'd rather stay challenged.

*Edit - I'm more of an a2c95 guy myself.

Don't think I even want to know how to do that. Me? I've never even considered it an option.

I use console commands when my game breaks. Like when quests start glitching or I'm stuck in a rock.

I've not really used them yet, tho I'm tempted to at the end of the game play to summon 10 elder dragons in solitude and then the same in windhelm... should be fun. Else wise the only thing I have used them for are bug fixes, removing bugged quests and bugged quest items, etc.

Only to implement game features that I'm too lazy to mod in (like time-scaling instead of level scaling), to test mods, or to get around bugs.

More than I care to admit. It's mostly when I just don't feel like [censored] around with fighting whatever annoying creature decides that I'm going to be it's next meal. Other times it's to use tcl to get myself unstuck from between a couple of rocks.

Once. I found 2H boring (1-2 shot weak mobs, drink lots of potions on boss) and got tired of trying to level 1H/Block instead (constantly had to drop difficulty), so I swapped 2H/1H skill levels.

Seems like everyone gets stuck in rocks

Haven't yet but I would consider using it for the following circumstances:

- Bug fixes
- Perk resets (remove a perk and add a free spendable point)
- Adding a quest reward item if it turns out I choose another route and didn't know about the outcome. This is pretty much a non-issue in Skyrim as far as I know, because crafted loot is best anyway. But I hate it in games where you are trying to roleplay and they then punish you for not receiving the best weapon/armor in the game... Mehrunes Razor can be seen as an example, it has a cool unique enchant and you can possibly not get it, and never again after that.

As long as the console doesn't make me stronger than I could have been or should be I don't consider it cheating.

I use the console commands very rarely. I'll use to adjust my FOV while I'm creating/tweaking a character, when I get stuck, or when I want to check something out. If I use it for the sake of curiosity, though, I always save it first and reload it afterwards. I never use it to get myself stuff I can get another way, though.

No, not really. I'll turn off the display to take a screenshot but I wanted to play the game they wanted to make and I'll get mods later to change things if I want to experiment. It's just not something I need to do.

Roleplaying games are about playing a role in a story, not how the story setup got there. A proper role-playing game would consist of an empty skyrim and the ability to console-command the hell out of the game by default. Put all the NPCs you want in, make all the story!

Don't call it cheating... call it extensive role-playing!

I use console commands all the time. Usually to affect npcs, like leveling up companions. I've also used tcl to clear mountains when I was painful close to the top but got stuck on the jagged terrain. I also used them to resurrect Nazeem so I could kill him again. And again.

Console commands fix bugs, and allows for other awesome things like bringing back acrobatics and athletics/speed "skills/attribute" to a certain degree. Also awesome for taking great in game pics.

I have used the console to add a mild bump to carry weight at the start of a new character, otherwise it's just aggravating.

^ This.

Other than that, I've used the console to level up Lydia, and to use the tfc/tm commands to grab screenies. Had to use tcl one time to escape a Falmer tipi when Lydia decided to camp out in the doorway and then refused to budge, but I expect I'll be using that one again and again as time goes by.
