Becarful pageant teen queen, no selling or advertising aloud. I think you are joking since you didn't put up your account name, just make sure you put a smiley face next to it so people know you are kidding.

Me wife had an Ebay account till I yelled at her to stop because some things and they never arrive. I don't sell anything, I think she may have once. So far no credit cards stolen, becasue I don't have one. :)

My parents sell stuff on there all the time. I don't buy stuff off it all that much since Amazon and Play just seem a bit more reliable. I'm not too worried about fraud/theft though.

Last thing I bought was a season of dvds for $7.00.

70+ things bought from ebay.... Mostly games.

Had the account since 2001 started actively using it in 2007

I have an account and used to sell regularly, but these days I only buy. Seller fees have gotten ridiculous, to the point where it's just not worth it to sell there anymore. As for security, never had a problem.

I buy most everything from Ebay. If you buy from a top-rated seller who ships from the US, your chance of being ripped off is extremely small. I use it because when someone advertises free shipping, they usually don't mention anything about it not including shipping to Hawaii. And, even when they do charge extra for shipping to Hawaii, it's very small.

When I bought my monitor, it was $10 more expensive on Ebay, but shipping to Hawaii was $10, instead of the $80 everywhere else wanted. When I bought thermal paste, the shipping was free, when Newegg wanted to charge be $11 shipping on a $8 item the size of a baby carrot.

Naw, but I've used my aunties account to buy a number of books before for really cheap. My dad has gone a little crazy lately. He plays in a "old timers" hockey league and has bought about 5 pairs of gloves, skates (decent purchase actually) and a bundle of I think a half-dozen sticks. He doesn't need more gloves but he see's these deals from shops and buys them :P

But no I don't have my own account and never really gave much thought to security issues. That many people using it, I figure its safe enough

I've been buying & selling on Ebay for several years now. Closing in on my 400th star, which is pretty neat. Can't wait for my purple star ^^ I buy and sell just about anything. My best sold auction was a lot of He-Man figurines I've had since I was a kid. Netted me 350 bucks, went to some guy in the U.K.

I have had my paypal hacked once, still no idea how, but they sent 700 bucks to themselves. Caused me a few issues with my bank because they didn't want to reverse the overdraft fees even when Paypal called them and spoke with the bank manager personally. Eventually they did though, thank god(it was like 120 bucks in overdraft fees ><). Not sure if it occurred due to E-Bay or Amazon. My money is on Amazon, as someone hacked my wifes Amazon account about 6 months ago, thankfully the Debit card on there was old and invalid so they couldn't do anything. Kinda wierd though, we use fairly complicated passwords(none of that password is password crap). We don't use Amazon anymore, but Ebay is still fairly regular with us. Buying stuff for our youngest daughters 3rd birthday right now actually ^^

eBay is the reason I don't have a huge game library. I sell off games and buy more using the money. I love eBay

*sigh* le poll is flawed.

Yes, I use ebay. I typically purchase video games, textbooks, and comic books.

I have a seller account, but I haven't put anything up for sale yet (the entire process has been too intimidating, and I'm doing pretty well for myself using Craigslist). Your poll lacks an option like "no, I don't sell anything even though I have an account"

I don't know about identity theft. I don't think it will happen if you're smart. I don't think ebay-the-company would be responsible for identity theft (i.e. they aren't interested in stealing your identity). If you do business with a shady seller and don't use, say, Paypal and instead give your personal details, then, yeah, you might be risking problems. Additionally, signing up for 3rd party programs offered through Ebay or Paypal is a quick way to get scammed (a simple google search is rather enlightening).

I have not gotten my credit card or i.d. stolen; I always use Paypal, which doesn't let the seller see your card info.

@Starwulf: drop me a PM if you could share some words of wisdom about selling on Ebay! I have the "ebay book for dummies" and I'm still a tad confused about all the nitty gritty fine print.

Nope, because PayPal is extremely unsafe.

I buy and sell sometimes, but from now on I'm going to insist on insurance on shipping for everything going and coming. I've had an incident lately with something missing in the mail, and I'm going to always insist on insurance from now on.

What do you buy on Ebay?
Just video games
Anything

In the categories of all things buy-able on Ebay there exists a set of categories that one could buy from that does not satisfy the statement that one just buys video games nor the statement that one buys anything buy-able

(that is a fancy way of me saying I don't buy video games on Ebay, but on the same token I don't buy just anything, but rather only buy items from a few select categories)

Do you think Ebay is just another way to get identity* theft?

Ebay in and of itself is not a way to get your identity stolen, but the methods through which you buy items from Ebay (paypal) are.

I am a huge fan of Ebay. I have not used it in awhile because I'm a in-debt college student, but I have over 100 transactions totaled. Most of those were from me buyin' stuff but I have sold CDs. My problem with Ebay is the cost of shippin' takes out a huge percent of the item's value, so it is incredibly difficult to make a profit off of it.

It's a great place to buy books in bulk, I've purchased 250+ books for less then a dollar per book.

I have an Ebay account and the 110 transactions I have are, with very few exceptions, just me buying new sealed video games or movies. Never sold a thing.
