Do you use horses

Post » Thu Feb 06, 2014 5:26 am

Wondering how many people use a horse to get around on. I've tried it for short periods but find having to get on and off for a fight to be too time-consuming for me.

On PS3, hell no.

Way to inconvenient.

Much rather run around and have fun on foot.

This. They are completely useless without it. Even with it they still are a little bit useless since you can't cast spells from horseback.

I've tried to use horses strictly from a RP perspective. I gave up on it quick as my horse, which lot of you can relate to, likes to follow you when fast traveling. So I dont use them anymore. I still always get one for my stall in my HF home as it just adds to it.

The only time I'll use one now is when I become overencombered, in which case I summon Arvak. He'll get me to where I need to go and then disappear. Great horse.

The only game I've played with fun horse riding mechanics was M&B warband and Red Dead Redemption, otherwise I've never seen a game make riding a horse fun.

Only when I am impatient of trying to get somewhere while still keeping the means of immersion without fast travel. But even then, can I also get impatient of the boring horseback travel and just result to fast travel. I overall find them useless as always in TES. Although, I highly praise Shadowmere's speed in Oblivion. It actually encouraged me to ride a horse.

Never seen the fuss over fast horses like Shadowmere personally. I like walking to my destination.

On my first character, when I went to Whiterun, I talked the stableguy there. My first 5000 septims went for a horse, not Breezehome. He died shortly thereafter during a Dragon attack. I have never bought a horse since.

I have come across "free horses" (usually with the dead hunter or peddler nearby) along the road and sometimes will ride them to my next destination, but since they are not "mine", they wander away.

Their movement takes a bit of getting used to. Also being the flower picker that I usually am, horses are more of an inconvenience than a help. Ride. Dismount to gather ingredients. Mount up. Ride again. Repeat.

I do have the convenient horses mod installed, but still have not utilized them much at all. I know there is a quest, or something, to get much of the mod working (like whistle calling), but have not found that yet.

I do buy a horse for every Hearthfires Home I build. They look so pretty :)

On PS3 (for me at least). They are useless. Unless you RP, they are worthless. I just walk or run around (or FT).

My horse is my companion in Skyim and as I don't fast travel, he, or she, is a very useful one too.

I used them quite a bit on Xbox, but always felt really guilty that followers had to walk/run behind. On PC with Convenient Horses, which allows my followers to ride too, I use them all the time. I personally own five horses, and each of my followers has one.

Haha, yes, with Convenient horses I've also started to "collect" them :)

I also use a mod called Automatic Variants, which allows animals to have more various colors, which makes it even more fun to have many horses :)

My current character has only one though.

I wish you could name your horse, like you could in Oblivion with the console.

Horse No

Why:

-A thousand gold for a lvl 1 character, you must be smoking something

-They aren't particularly faster than me running and sprinting, and I have more stamina with other characters

-They die because they see enemy and charge

-No First Person Perspective

^That's the big thing. I find these large beast, quite awkward to control in third person. Especially when I play the game completely in first person. Oooo boy, you're on a horse now, force perspective.

That is why I only steal them, they are only good for running up mountains (Which they shouldn't be able to do but lolthisisskyrim)

Yeah, but a human cannot climb the mountains. Good job Bethseda. Make the most mountainous range and not even have a climb feature.

I only used horses in my first playthrough, I didn't quite like them. No saddlebags, kamikaze stance always on... and more importantly, my companions can't get on my horse.

How odd, because it has never worked for me. Not in vanilla, not with mods. I can use the bow, but the aim is completely off. So I get off my horse to fight. But with Convenient Horses I don't have to search for them when they have ran off during combat - I can call for them.
