Do you use potions

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:05 am

Ok, so it seems from lurking these forums and talking to friends that a lot of people use potions, but I personally can't stand them, can't stand using them or making them. So I wanted to see were I stand amongst other players. Personally I don't see a need for them because the game's economy is such that after a few hours of playing (even sooner if you have the tribunal expansion) you get so much money anyways that you have nothing to do but use it to train, and once you raise all your skills really high potions become useless.

What are your opinions about potions? Heck maybe you could even convince me to start using them

I use some economy mods that keep potions relevant and make it hard to use trainers. Also, if the game is too easy you can raise the difficulty bar. This seems to make potions a lot more handy.

I use them. Especially since my assassin doesn't have much magical trinkets yet (still working on his enchanting skills).
Concerning money, the economic mod I made for myself changed the merchant wannabes of the game for real merchants.
As a result, when I sell a sword worth 50k, I get around 12k for it. So my little potions aren't worth much. :P

But I never stack the same potion effect. (no triple heal potion or eleven sujamma at once)
In any case, potions are pretty useful.

The first time I played Morrowind I only used bought potions and never tried making much of my own. It was a lot to absorb and it was very disheartening to see those first precious emeralds that I could have sold for a bit of much-needed coin for my poor starter character go up in a hiss of failure.

The second time round I decided to make a concerted effort, and also to be smart enough to use only cheap ingredients until I got a little better at alchemy. Now all my characters use alchemy, but I have a rule never to exploit it - I don't ever force my intelligence up to ungodly levels so that I can make ridiculously uber potions, and I don't down insane amounts of potions either. Also, if you get Morrowind Crafting you can make poisons which is a really nice touch.

I make, use and sell potions, although because of the economy system there's not much point in selling them unless you really care about having as much money as possible.

I might use 10-12 potions a game for things I don't have the magic/magicka for or use very often. (cure blight, invisibility) Don't make them, don't use Alchemy.

I use them a lot earlier on, for restoring health and magicka. When my character starts to get to the uberly high levels though, I don't really see the point.

Yes
Rarely use alchemy but my none mages will use them a fair bit especially in the early game
Unless you get yourself a CE Restore Health item (which makes the game too easy) potions are much better than spells, scrolls or enchanted items for healing in combat

I use them because to me, saving magicka is smart, so If I have a spell that restores health and a potion that does the same, Im going to use the potion. The problem is I just don't carry potions often. Just scrolls.

I rarely practice Alchemy, and have never abused the potion system, but of course I use potions.
Carrying a few Cure Disease, Cure Blight and Restore Health potions is just smart game-playing. The occasional Levitation potion is also handy.

I think they key is to not abuse potion making, and then it becomes a normal aspect of gameplay that fits perfectly into the game.

I didn't use to, but mods have upped the difficult without me touching the slider. Armor replacers, NPC's are tougher, etc. So I've gotten a newfound respect for health potions.

My char is an http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/6646/morrowind20100815002456.jpg, so he extensively uses potions (exclusively home-made, he spits on the quality of the default ones, calling them "alchemic piss"). Currently he's experimentating on the creation of offensive potions (or hand bombs), after taking over some documentation and tools from the Caldera Mages Guild (now a Telvanni Council House).

Lol so I am the only one who likes cheap magic  ('cuz lets face it... morrowind magic is cheap; you can kill the whole room in one blast) over any type of potions, but I have read everything people have been saying and thought it didn't apply to my godly characters (I generally grind a lot before I start any story line so why the time I start anything I'm nearly unbeatable) but then I found out about the Siege at Firemoth plug in... so now I think it applies to me more. My Godly character who could 1-3 hit any thing in the game (if I was unlucky) without taking almost any demege could NOT best Lich Grurn no matter how hard I tried :flame:
I was forced to use health and mana potions (which I had to buy because I have no clue how to make anything, even though I quickly tried)

Maybe health and magicka potions aren't as useless as I first thought them to be :bolt:

I always carry around some potions, they can be very useful on lower levels. On higher levels I don't have much use for them, but I do carry some just in case.

My char is lvl 75, and yerterday, if it weren't for a potion I was carrying, I'd have died against a high level Dremora, and a Winged Twilight...

Of course I have capped my char's HP to 300 and set Difficulty at 100 (and I limit the potions I can carry to 3). For experimented players, this is a good way to keep tension in the game. I'm powerful, yet still mortal :)

I use potions occationally. They have saved my life more than once when there isn't time to cast a restore health spell before the next hit goes down on me. And this is on a pure mage. when I go for a melee character I'm probably goin to use potions a lot more since I won't have access to magic. I also like making potions. It's fun to collect flowers along the way and see what random potions you can make out of what you have :)

Alchemy is a really fun and useful skill and as long as you don?t abuse it, it won't break the system.

In Morrowind I mostly use pre made ones. I find Alchemy to be tedious in this game.

Restore health for a quick burst when a spell would fail because I'll get whacked again before I can cast.

Also Restore Strength for those awful Bonewalkers, I never seem to have a reliable Restoration skill.

Oh, and Levitate early in the game.

My latest char is an Argonian combat-type. I will not use many spells, so will develop Alchemy. I'm going to experiment with buffs; suggestions welcome!

This thread has inspired me to make a new alchemist character who hangs out at the balmora mages guild making potions. A lot more fun than expected, and im hoping to get his alchemy to 100 by the end of the month :)

Yes, I use them. However, I rarely make them, even when I have alchemy as a major. I don't know, I just don't find anything really appealing in stocking up on ingredients and then doing some crappy potions. I also never use the "booze" potions such as Sujamma or Grief.
