Do you use power armor in Fallout: New Vegas?

Post » Tue Apr 20, 2010 8:29 am

Its not hard to find out, why power armours in NV (even more in F3) feel so pathetic. In http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_2_armor_and_clothing T-51B had double DT of any other non powered armour (best was combat armour mk2). In some instances triple (damage was broken in to various categories). And AC bonus on top of that which made you less likely to be hit. In NV best non powered armour (reinforced combat armour mk2 and few others) have still 80% DT of T-51B. And Fallout 2 featured advanced and advanced mk2 power armours which were even better.

Power armour in NV (and F3) suffered fate of another advanced Fallout technology, that of laser/plasma weapons. It was nerfed to the point that there is nothing really advanced in it anymore. It is just slightly better than ordinary.

pwer armour was nerfed ebcause of the low and medium weight users wanting similar benefits of the *power armour* while still getting light weight .its sad and pathetic that combat armour users have almost the same bonuses -_-.Unless they upgrade the power armour there trully is no reason to use it.
So am i rite in my assumptions?
Its bs liek this that angers me i have a mediocre pc incapable of modern age gaming. But i can almost guarantee that any fixing of the power armour would be mauled by users of light weight/medium armour >:(( .

No, because of the rarity, the expense and the unspeakably tedious quest needed to recieve power armour training. I'm more of a stealther anyway, and for brute characters metal armour is nearly as good, and looks amazing.

My non-crit melee/unarmed character wear the T51-b helmet, and put companions in it once I get bored of their default look (poor Cass doesn't get to wear one until I mod Tribal Power Armour in after 80hours).

I agree wild life is too strong for it and humans are too weak to promote it (EW buff patch helps a little), But I think every PA need like 15% DR to be worthwhile.

I would use Power Armor in Fallout 1 and 2 because it LOOKED Good and was worth it,
the Power Armor in FO3 and FONV just looks terrible, so I've never bothered with it, it
doesn't resemble the Fallout 1 & 2 power armor at all.

It was more useless in FO3, thanks to the absence of DT.

It's also absent in NV.

DT now is just DR with a slight +.
If it were true to FO1 & 2, it would be better ( man I just turned into one of those guys. )
Now it just weighs a ton, and protects very slightly against lower tier weapons.
If the game had more ranged foes like elite rangers or centurians the system would be just the same as FO3's DR one.

Stop it, you're killing me.

Think of it as pay back for the Boone in a dress image you posted, that I now see everytime I look at a woman.
I'm now calling him Boobe, and am seriously considering making a PC just like me to do so.

Games too easy at lvl 15+.
No need to use power armor.
Besides that it's too annoying to get.

Um... Remnants' Armor looks exactly like Advanced Power Armor from FO2.

As for me, I only used it on final mission. It's a hot desert.

My Tank character uses Power Armor by definition, and her companion selection is based on that (for the black PA ;)). But i agree, that the PAs aren't too good looking, that is why i use the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37341 mod, "Fallout" with less "ugly" :P

Not at all. I prefer the Recon Armor and the cap Boone gave to me. Though lately, I've been using the Assassin Suit (with Boone's cap) from Dead Money.

Here's an important thing to remember about DR, it likes to be applied before DT. This is why veteran rangers are so tough in a stand up fight they have 30% DR ontop of there DT. If you take some Med-X while wearing your power armor, its effects increase dramatically.

I think power armor may be air conditioned, heat would probably be an issue in any environment.

The power armor is good,i use it for the rad restiance and strength bonus, the movement speed dont bother me to much, its easy to repair with jury rigging.

Not to mention the DT is so high few foes can actually damage it.

I stopped wearing power armor after FOT. Combat armor has become so strong that I no longer see the necessity of jumping through burning hoops to acquire PA. Besides, I don't like the agility hit and klutzy look. I consider them collectible trophies, but that's about it.

Rad resistance is only good in two places...you may or may not want to wear it since you can have Advance Scientist Suit or Space Suit.....

Yes I know, the NCR rangers due to this are equal to deathclaws in strength and armour, yet a power armoured BoS is weaker.
PA on its self is not great, not by a far margin.
Take on MI securitrons with it and don't fight back your health goes down rapidly, due to loads of pin pricks.
I had DT 40+, DR 25 and buffouts boost to health, 3 elite rangers took my health out in 20 seconds while I was trying to kill them.
Just the same as PA in FO3 against the enclave.
Without the DR the securitrons around NV's strip knocked it down to a third, even when I killed them within two blows.
Just the same as FO3 with every one armed with pistol.

Compare this to FO1 and 2, where a PA person would take at most 2 damage from all but the strongest guns.

DT has a use in NV it slows damage down a bit, getting anywhere near the DT to do so effectively is a challange however.
The only way to effectively avoid damage in NV is just not get hit, kill them first.
Which makes PA a joke imo, make it as slow as a snail and then make it impossible to bite through without the right weapons.

I never use it because DT rather than DR pretty much makes Power Armor useless against Big Damage. DT of 60 or 100 would make Power Armor remotely useful against a Deathclaw, but it would make you invincible against any other forms of damage. FO4 should use DR or have a better formulae for Armor rating besides DT to make Power Armor more useful.

Too slow for my tastes. It's kinda fun using PA and some obscenely heavy weapon and playing 1-man tank but that's only for enjoyment's sake. Not because it's awesome or anything.

I don't, because I want to play a Wild West Gunslinger.

Unfortunately, I can't find a Duster or Poncho.

For my main character who takes a lot of [censored], close and personal, he wears power armour( remnants version)
For my sniper character he just wears reinforced leather armour with a ranger hat.

Nope, I find the reduced movement speed EXTREMELY annoying, though I tend to dress up my companions with it very often.
Bounty Hunter Duster or Centurion armour in addition to the sub-dermal implant AND 2 ranks of Toughness is far enough DT for me really.

Not allot of difference between 50DT and 20DT and even less if you happen not to get shot much. There is just not many enemies using high powered weapons in good repair. If you happen not to take much damage then armor is just dead weight.

I've always been happy using the Bounty Hunter Duster as my main armor and only go to higher DT (Sierra Madre armor) stuff for Hover Dam. Slasher+Med-X (50DR) handles those rare emergencies.

I just don't need it in New Vegas. Not enough difficult enemies. Plus I can snipe anything I want from miles away. Assassin suit will do me for now.

They need separete Energy Resistance; Damage Resistance etc. And they should be the only armor with "resistance" type of defences. PA useless againts melee attacks but if they had some kind of DR that only works againts melee attacks and or crittical hits or something, anything unique to PA . This would be great for "tank" type builds.

But without any resistance PA is kinda lame.
