Do you use the crosshair?

Post » Thu Aug 29, 2013 9:11 am

Hi. I was wondering how many people play with or without the crosshair. In my opinion, it distracts me and makes me focus on that tiny dot in the centre, and I actually find when I have it off that I scan the surroundings much better rather than tunnel visioning myself. It just irritates me. Insights?

I don't use it, for all the reasons listed. More immersive without, and gives me a little more challenge. Sometimes it'll come on when I use Conjuration spells and its bothersome.

Nothing feels better than "no-scoping" a fleeing rabbit from 20 feet away with a Firebolt in third-person mode. Crosshairs are easy mode.

I never had a problem with the crosshair, so I just left it there.

I use it, it helps me to know where I'm aiming at. However, I have my crosshair shrunken to about 15% it's normal size. Currently, it's not much bigger than the period at the end of this sentence

I usually play with the HUD off or so low you can't see the crosshair and can barely see anything else. I do however turn it up when in a space were items can be stolen, IF I need to, such as a store or Inn. Nothing like wanting to "sit" and stealing a wedge of cheese..... .

I have the main crosshair off i.e when standing up, to provide more of a challenge & allow me to see more of the environment as well. But i am usually crouching allot in sneak mode, so i have the sneak rectangle to use quite allot of the time. But i know how to free aim with the bow myself, which is much more rewarding, rather then using the crosshair to aid me.

When im using ranged weapons, i tend to use them from afar.. If no crosshair was there, im not sure how id hit my target.. I play for the most part, in 3rd person view, but when i am shooting, or am in tight corridors, or inspecting, i then use 1st person...Not sure how itis on pc, but on console, i dont think id be very effective at range without it...

Im just not sure id even hit targets with Arrows, bolts, or spells wihout them.. Though now, i may have to try!

I use it. I want to only pick up the apple. I don't want to have to go into my inventory every time I pick up the entire platter.

Thankfully, there is iHUD that allows full customization of the entire HUD.

I don't use it. Ever try to kill a fox on horseback without it I've gotten pretty good at it.

Yes, I use the crosshair. Why? Because the ballistics in Skyrim are screwey to say the least, and a reticle helps.

I agree. I turned it off when I first started playing Oblivion and when Skyrim came out, the first thing I did after my hands were unbound was go into settings and turn off the crosshair. I really wish you could turn off the sneak crosshair as well.

I don't think I could play without the crosshair. It's the one HUD element I absolutely have to have.

I don't anymore, it's actually kind of useless anyway. It can help you zero in with a bow, but as far as "Aiming" is concerned, it isn't much help.

About the most useful thing the crosshair does is help you pick up objects.

I don't use it. Playing without it (and compass and sneak icon) makes the game more immersive. Also I like the added challenge. I wouldn't miss a single shot if I used the crosshair, I'm an old hardcoe Quake and Counter-Strike player.

I like the idea of the crosshair it's just that it svcks in Skyrim. If it were actually accurate for bows/crossbows then it would be perfect. I'm not talking about long range shots, i understand arrows drop, i mean up close at times where the arrows seems to fly above the crosshair. It's annoying.

First it help me aim, secondly it help me click on the barkeeper instead of the bottles in front of him with the result that he attacks me. Events like that might break immersion a bit more than the crosshair.

This was that made 3rd person view in oblivion totally useless even if it was better in melee fights.

The crosshair in Skyrim actually adjust for arrow drop however it has an cutoff where it stop doing it, this make long range aiming harder than Oblivion where I was able to hit large enemies out to 700 feet (end of detect life with multiple enchants including the thief guild cowl. I regularly did beyond visual sight shots, you could shoot at something on the other side of an low hill or bridge where the enemy could not see me.

For short range you hit anyway main issue is that the arrow leaves from your hip, not your bow.

I use it for ranged attacks like bow or magic. Or when sorting through stuff thats lying loose in the environment. Otherwise I don't even notice it.
