So you wanna be a BARD?

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 6:30 am

If we can play instruments in the game then please include a freestyle mode.

In two worlds 2 you could play instruments... but ONLY along to a guitar hero type minigame.

ie you couldnt just pick up your guitar and start jamming...

I want to be able to equip my lute and just start pressing buttons on my pad to create music.

each button could be mapped to a major note in the musical scale.. and when combined create chords.

there are seven notes A B C D E F G

to make a minor or a sharp just push one of the shoulder buttons.

wouldnt be that hard to do. Then I could roleplay a wandering musician going from tavern to tavern playing my awesome techno classical funk hybrid.

thoughts?

Sounds good to me, even though I wouldn't play as a bard, the option to play would be cool. Have been wondering whether the pc can use the instruments or if its just the npcs.

I always wanted to play as a bard, but I doubt there will be many features supporting it.

If only they added song books in the game and your character could play them and other npc's could sing and play instruments too.
It doesn't need to have a stupid minigame or fancy game-mechanics. Just being able to do it for no reason, having some minor reactions on the NPC's would be great.

if there is something like this, i just hope there's preset music you can play. I don't want any guitar-hero like nonsense.
I already learned to play a REAL guitar...

if some people would of spent half the time practicing real guitar instead of guitar hero, they probably would of been pretty good.

if there was custom music, I hope it's just custom music you can write beforehand, and just play automatically afterward. (Mario Paint Style)

Some kind of mini game for instruments would be fun, earn som extra cash at taverns, maybe get a little more disposition with people and so on.

Of course the songs would have to be pre made, maybe similiar to how it worked in Zelda for nintendo 64. You could learn more as you go,
maybe you could buy music sheets at stores or something.

Here we go with the guitar elitism again, i'ts a game, it's far more simple than real guitar, and dosen't really share the same goal.
I play guitar and while I don't personally own guitar hero I still think it's fun to play with friends, it's entertaining, and has some good tracks,
though singstar beats it at parties.

Sometimes I think people bash on guitar hero just so they can mention that they're real deal guitarists.

Too much work to implement something that'd be just a minor feature in the game = DLC or, more likely, a mod.

Nice idea. But how would npc's know if you are playing a song well or just randomly pressing notes, you would want some kind of reaction from them right? start dancing or just plain smiling if good, walk away if bad with a booo or Hisss that kind of thing.

How would they know what to do without somthing to gauge how good you are. Would it be based of your bardic skills, if its high, what ever you play it is GOOD and every one likes the sound and stays to listen, tips given :) If skill is low then most walk away as if its not a good sound?

I just think It's just an utter waste of time to play guitar hero for 100 hours trying to get "perfects" at very hard songs... I mean, it's a video game, like Skyrim, so I guess it's all a waste of time, but if you could go out, kill dragons, be a hero-adventurer, and cast magic spells in real life, I'd say TES is a waste of time too. my little brother was seriously addicted to guitar hero a couple years ago, playing in the dark by himself late into the night....

and now he doesn't play it anymore... and he's got nothing to show for it.

It's the same thing with the sims... It's okay if you play it a little, but if it's too much, get a REAL life. and since a guitar hero type thing would actually be pretty hard/take a long time to master, it's just a waste of time IMO.

and i don't care if anyone knows i play guitar.... what do you think i'm sitting here hoping everyone on this forum thinks I'm cool now or something? Just playing guitar isn't even really something to brag about... It's not THAT hard to learn, i was just mentioning how incredibly more satisfying/productive/ and actually useful it is.

The way its done is Zelda is perfectly fine. 4 notes and when the stick is tilted it changes the pitch.

i'd imagine it would be quite good if you had an "artistry" skill (could also be used to create paintings/statues/vases to decorate your house or to sell for money) which lets you play more complex songs with your instrument for each threshold of 10 points you invest in artistry (0,10,20,30,etc), with buyable music sheets in shops and these could only be learned if you have enough skill points invested in artistry.

the same kind of progress would also apply for paintings, statues and the like.
