Do you want Bethesda to use moders′ ideas for the game?

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:33 am

Hi,

Think about it, there are lots of good ideas in those mods. As an Oblivion player, I have installed tons of mods that completely changed the gameplay for me.

These made it...Better. Oblivion was the base, the mods made the game be the best game ever. I will explain it a bit, cause I′m not native english speaker, so forgive me:

For example:

In vanilla, conjurations were so simple, you select the type of creature/humanoid you want, you cast the spell...Voilá.

In my modded Oblivion, you can summon every creature you want(Once you have bought the spell) BUT at lower levels the spell will probably fail, causing the creature to attack you. Also, you can summon more thank one creature...

This has been only an example. And note ideas are not mine, I just only want Bethesda to take into account moders′s ideas.

Thank you.

The level scaling in FO3 and Skyrim was probably influenced by the popularity of mods like OOO, they've said multiple times that mods inspire them.

Yeah, Duke Patrick's I'm guessing. The reduced backpedalling speed possibly too.

No i do not. I never liked modded stuff ideas, also bethseda knows what they are doing themselves and using fans ideas is kind a a risky dumb long-shot.

I've seen videos about Deadly Reflexes in OB and it looks outright stupid. (IMO). But the finishing moves and such sounds like a great idea from bethesda, no idea if they got the idea directly from DR, Fo3 or something else, but it is a great idea in any case.

to me it doesnt matter if they get their ideas from reading tea leaves as long as it makes the game more entertaining.

As long as they apply sense. I don't want to see animesey-japansey chicks with size D cups and skimpy outfits shoved in my face through some new companion obsession. I also don't want laz0r sw0rdz and decapitations - or a choice of 5000 player homes.

I would however like to see 4096p textures and improved LOD for the PC from the get-go.

And not needing to use crap like script extenders.

No. [censored] no, in fact.

I like the way Bethesda does it. If they use some mods for inspiration, that's different. But a big, loud, angry NO to using community mods "as is"

So you don’t want plants to look harvested after you have picked them? Yes it makes sense it also make harvesting for alchemy easier.
Just one example on a simple mod, yes in Fallout 3 point lookout they had added it to the game.
Yes a lot and perhaps most mods are lore breaking or uninteresting in the main game, however many of them are very good, many also implement things the developers did not think about often because they was outside their main focus like plants who look harvested.

Do you consider the excellent work of modders to be inferior to the Devs work? In my opinion modders often save the Devs asses and not only fixes broken aspects of vanilla games, but sometimes make great improvements.

Modders can spend a LOT of time on one specific aspect of the game, where as the devs are on a schedule, and can't devote as much time as they want. so yeah, the modders out-do the developers in some areas.

There are really bad mods that shouldn't inspire bethesda, but the devs know what is best for the game. things like "laser-swords" won't make the cut.

Using modders ideas, definately. Any improvement to gameplay that comes from mods should be used as much as possible. However, being inspired by, and copying straight off are two entirely different things.

In general, yes: the work of some modders improved previous games immensely. Which isn't to say they were bad to begin with, but there's always room for improvement. I think if they are influenced by a particular mod or modder, it would be a nice idea to credit them, though.

One of my favorite mods for Oblivion allowed me to ride a Dragon......

Never needed fast travel again! The Dragon was slow, but it was always a nice ride through the country at a height of 300 feet.....

Well, obviously, they don't just say "let's use a mod! I wonder what it does....." :)

But it's very possible to look at long established mods, see which ones are most downloaded/popular, see which ones work well, gain inspiration from all the "brainstorming" that the mod community is effectively doing, etc.

Not just take a mod and install it.

It's not a matter of inferiority, nor is it one of superiority.

I reiterate: if Bethesda uses community mods as inspiration then all is good. Otherwise, I stand by my NO.

Some of them. The changes to conjuration you describe don't appeal to me, although I think it's great that modding allows you to play in a way you enjoy.

While the vast majority of community mods out there are rubbish either in their application and creation, or through game-breaking changes that don't fit. However, there are also a large amount of very good mods and modders out there that have created some truly impressive game fixes and improvements.

To say "use as inspiration" is unfair, some of these smaller mods I believe the devs will be almost completely copying because some get it just right.
