First vote!

OT: Yup. I'd even go so far as to make it a skill.

I want pickaxes that allow you to climb steep slopes and double as weapons.

A new "climbing" skill should govern both your ability to scale slopes and deal damage with the pickaxes.

No slope should be impassable with the right skill (climbing and/or levitation). We should be able to traverse the whole map. No New Vegas-style invisible walls on mountainsides.

I've never seen good climbing in any game with the exception of Assassin's creed and it seems unlikely this will be the same kind of game - whereas climbing was an enormous part of what you had to do to win Assassin's Creed.

Yes. Affected by skills of strength, speed, athletics and acrobatics.

You should be able to

-Climb ladders
-Climb over small objects
-Vault over small objects
-Grab onto ledges and lift self up
-Dodgeroll to soften falls
-Run up walls a bit
-Wall jump
-Grab horizontal poles
-Grab largeish hand/footholds

You mean it might actually give the third person view a purpose!

I want climbing.

But only on surfaces/objects that would be suitable.

I’d love it, but being able to climb most things would probably be difficult to implement well. AC does it rad, but that’s a game largely designed around that mechanic.

I think a Thief style (Bows that can shoot a climbing rope in curtain areas) could work really well though.

You should at the very least be able to mantle up over a fence or somthing though.

AC climbing svcked. seriously that was about as realistic as just levitating up to the roof top. that would look ridiculous in a TES game. the best way to do climbing that ive seen is for certain surfaces to be climbable. make it impossible to climb smooth stone walls but there could be areas of large vines growing that you could use..........or if the game allows it you could use rope arrows like they did with dark messiah. maybe even include grappling hooks. i dont think you should be able to just walk up to any surface and start climbing it willy nilly without using some sort of tool. it should also be a skill related to the stealth classes since they are going to be the most likey to use it. tie it to agility

More options = better

Besides, climbing would be esential for stealth characters.

"I couldn't climb up to reach the balcony, so I just walked through the front door. I tried to sneak, but there was a guard posted right there."

Climbing has the potential to add some variables to the game, especially for a stealth character or a marksman. Getting to high areas, pick out your foe and make a one-hit kill, would be very satisfying. Climbing could also help with the rugged terrain around Skyrim. Lastly, if someone has a window open/unlocked on the second floor and you can climb to a roof or balcony in order to gain access, again, nice thing to be able to do. We got to do a little of that in MW, without the climbing skill, but not a lot.

What was so unrealistic about it?

I think he means that there were so many objects to grab on every single wall was climable.
...
Although there were several spots that made climbing difficult, because there were only a few objects to grab.

I agree wholeheartedly. If they are gonna add Climbing, I hope it is actually logical, and not like Assassin's Creed system just to sell copies.

Only if implemented well. If they were to implement it, they should make it so that thieves can climb up large buildings and such to get the really good loot.
