Do you want to continue after main the main quest has finish

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 1:07 am

Considering there's more to play outside the main quest than in the main quest like it has been so far, yes.

I don't know why fallout series like to just stop the sandbox game when you do the main quest. That's why many of my friends hated Fallout 3, they said it was too short. I had to tell them not to do the main quest if they want to play it. There's so much outside the main quest. Even more so in the Elder Scrolls series.

I'm not this blatantly mean most of the time but those RPers are stupid. Want the character to have died at the end? Delete the save file and say he died. Hell, you are already pretending that your character and all the NPCs are actual people so why not just pretend he died? It is not that hard.

TES stands for what in its games the most over every other thing? I would believe, myself included, most would say the option to do something. You want to go into a tunnel under ground and kill things in a quest to find some ancient tool? Go for it. Want to wander around, looking at all the cool things happening in the world around you? Go for it. Want to steal that thing over there? Better be careful, but go for it. Want to simply kill anything that moves? By all means.

For an endgame option that wouldn't even be that hard to implement, I see no reason why they should not have the option to play how they want. I say, to each his own. Let them play as they want. I voted yes, because I do wish to live and see what my actions have caused. But what if you wanted your character to give the ultimate, and not have to quick turn everything off so you don't see the game continue? Why shouldn't people be able to do that?

I in turn understand your point and I don't think we're going to make any headway on coming to an agreement. If you value playing after the 'ending' (literally, that - in and of itself with no added content - is enough for you) more than a better finale than I can't do anything except offer my condolences.

It's a very weird thing, I admit, but it's a weird and fun thing. Most games don't make after the end fun. ('cause the MQ and quests were where all your challenge came from) So in most games I don't mind if they don't let me play after the end. (but I would want a new-game+) In gamesas games though, their world design makes after the end a fun experience, and thus I consider it a plus to the product. And gamesas endings have always been lackluster anyway. I mean, the ending of Morrowind amounts to stab a heart, Akulakhan falls into a volcano and crazy daedra lady talks to you as you stumble out of a dwemer ruin. I don't think not letting us play after the end will get them to really improve on this particular aspect.

1 - I want there to be a way around your character dying

yay?

2 - How is "I'm going to go and do some mining now, or maybe I'll do some side quests until I'm burned out" as climactic as your character giving their life to save the world? And on point 1 - I don't want it to be impossible to avoid. I just want it to be the default state (á la DA:O)

It's not very climatic at all, the ending is hurt. (not by much though, gamesas endings would be lack-luster no matter what) With this particular company and their products though, I'll let it slide.

3 - Since when was continuing after the ending the point of TES? I would call it a fairly minor aspect of the series so far to be honest. I think it's laughable that you think that I'm "missing the point of TES" just because I think that PC death in the finale adds to the climix of the story. I'm not missing the point - TES revolves around the player and what they want to do, not the story. I don't argue that. I just think that the main quest should be the primary focus of the game if the player directs enough attention towards it, and that default character death at the end of it would make it more epic.

Whoever says continuing after the ending is the point of TES is crazy. Why would that be the point to any game series? I mean, doesn't being worthy of pointeness imply it's a major selling point? After the end playability is kind of a nice niche thingy really. It's not something most games do well, so it's good to have at least one series that consistently does it well.

Yes, since I've always viewed the Elder Scrolls game in light of the degree of freedom which they provide.

Plot has never really been a strong point in this series (although it is getting a little better) but instead of a detriment, I've always viewed it as a nice way to let you really make your own plot. The story of your adventure is your plot, and not the other way around, in my opinion.

If the game just ended when the core questline ended then I would not be too happy, since it would mean an end to my character and my exploration unless I started another save file. And although I usually make several characters, I would prefer to switch to any whenever I want, regardless of whether or not they are done with the main questline.

*snip*

I'm with you. I like to play after the fact. To continue with my own story. But what if someone wanted that character's story to end? I'm not saying either it continues or it doesn't, I'm saying you should have an option to continue or not. It seriously wouldn't be that hard.

We'll use follout three as an example. You just passed out from the rads, everything going black. A box pops up, asking you if you think you'll survive or not. yes, you continue, no, you get some nice endgame credits that remind you on what you've done in your life. It wouldn't be that bad for either side if you ask me.

Yes but in order for the story to make sense I want to be treated differently, I want to have a different reputation and I want to see my changes to the world around me. I also want it to make sense. After the credits roll we should return back to the game (after the cutscene as well) and it should say 2 MONTHS LATER. We find ourselves in a hospital with our stuff in a cabinet next to us.

Well basically all you are asking for is a cutscene that does what I said. It tells you the game is over because the character dies in his glory, or retires a hero, or gets whatever the Nirn equivalence of Cancer is and has a long drawn out battle with it or whatever. If the RPers want the game to end, then it will end for them in the same way every time. If they really want choice then they need to make up the end for themselves.

It is for rp perposes. Some people feel the endgame is a good point for their character to die. They would like their characters more if they gave their lives for the greater good.

Having an ending doesn't mean the character has to die. He could, but he doesn't have to. A good ending gives the player feedback on his actions during the game on a level to which a visual, gameplay presentation just can't (on a timescale) and strengthens the feeling of accomplishment - whether the character dies or not. A good ending doesn't necessarily have to negate a possibility of post ending freeplay, but the immediate effects of it (if the ending is done well, with multiple possibilities) can't all be visualized. I voted no because the poll asks "Do you want to continue after main the main quest has finished?" and I don't. I want a well made ending, but I don't care whether or not the players are given a possibility to continue afterwards, as long as it doesn't affect the ending on a substantial level (and as long as it doesn't force the continuation upon the player).

Exactly. They put it in in FO3 because so many people were pissed that their level 20 character died.

All right, ya got me there. There will always be alternet endings rpers will come up with, and there is no plausable way to contain them all. And having your character end will mean only dying once. Twas a mear sugestion in order to try and bring plz let me continue and 'let me die epicly'. Maybe some form of endgame with no cutscene at all? Just bare with me for a sec here. You could choose if you die, or if you retire, or what ever it is.

Or how about this. something that shows our impact on the world. Shows us all that we did. And then the screen then shows "The rest is up to you!", which then fades to black, where you get the option to end or continue. The game would save either way at that point, so you could continue, or if you so wish you could end it there with your own story in your head.

if casual gamer folk race through the main quest they wont experience the games full potential and beauty with all the hidden bonuses which make bethesda games unique. Casual gamers are prob more likey to run down to their local trade-in center to buy the next big game with a huge chunk slashed off their next purchase possibly not realising that theres soooooooo much to do.. I know I wont but its just another thought.

Woah thats a lot of votes quickly. And yes naturally I would want the option to do so but typically the end of the MQ is what I do last on my character so I wouldn't run around a whole lot after that anyway.

Yeah, the lack of this feature initially in Fallout 3 was something Todd specifically said was a mistake, so I'm sure Skyrim won't have a full-stop ending.

They made it again in FONV... Lol. I suppose it keeps with the Fallout tradition though.

I voted yes, however, I can understand why people would vote no.

Personally, I never continue playing after finishing the game. I lose all motivation (this extends to any game really). I always tackle the main quest after finishing the side quests, so after completing the main quest there is nothing else for me to do. I then don't touch the game for months, sometimes years (or never), and then play the game again later.

FO:NV was made by OBSIDIAN. OBSIDIAN. Fallout 2 had free play after finishing the game, but it was broken and it added nothing to do the game.
