Do you want to continue after main the main quest has finish

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 1:49 am

It really wouldn't be that hard to implement a system where it asks you if you wish to continue after the end of the main quest. Screen fades to black, but then a box pops up asking if you wish to conintue or not. No? Then press no and you go to the main menu. Yes, then the next cutscene starts where you wake up somewhere. It would be a simple little thing that would adress both sides of the argument.

As long as that opportunity isn't presented to players whose characters die, I'm cool.

Hell yes!
FO3's ending further strengthened that opinion

That's like asking if people want to have multiplayer in Call of Duty. As stated before, this is not Fallout.

Would it matter anymore at that point - as long as the ending was well executed and comprehensive?

In the next thread that is probably going to be made, add an option to choose both. <_<

Cause that's what I'd vote for.

Yes Please, only half of the game is the main quest for me, I don't want to have to put one half of the game on hold to complete the other half, and after that I want to screw around and massacre random towns and whatnot :) Saving before that of course.

People who like their character to do just that.

All Im trying to get into everyone's heads is that it doesn't have to be one way or the other. It could have both, and be just fine. No need to say no, not bothering to try and understand the other point of view. That isn't going to get people anywhere.

Well considering that Fallout 3's ending was the definition of "Buzz Kill"...

With a game like oblivion and skyrim there is absolutely no reason to have the game end at the end of the main quest. Because the game is more than just "a story" it is "your story"

It sure as heck better. The main thing i liked about elder scrolls the most is that i can do the story line and get stronger and then go and do quests and do the guilds. I understand that me being the champion and my first job in the fighters guild is to save rats. well it doesnt well balance out lol. Let the game go on and heck even after i beat the main quest i Role play in my head because i can create the beginning with what i want but the story line shapes the charicter what you want it to be. Yeah i may do all the right things but it doesnt mean that i cant be the champion and yet be a politician then and at night be a dark rider that rides into bandit camps and kill them while they sleep. I role play in the beginning and the end. A RPG is what you make it. i agree though that everyone just saying hi champion did put me off a little bit and the only person really happy to see you was the adoring fan. I know some people might hate me for saying this but i kinda wish it was multi-player. Like one player of each race in the realm no more and there could only be certain quests that the whole race can do. Please dont stone me to hard now ;)

Yes. To not be able to do that, I would not consider it a TES game and consider it a failure of an RPG. In Morrowind, the MQ was quite a small percentage of the actual game. To not be able to continue after the main quest would imply to me that either a) there is barely anything outside of the MQ to do anyway, or B) the side stuff is so small/inconsequential that players won't really miss not doing it. UNLESS the MQ ends with the destruction of the world or something...then it might be kind of hard to continue.

Yes it would matter. If an option pops up after my amazingly climactic epic ending of epicness in which my heroic main character sacrificed themselves for the good of the world asking me if I want to keep playing, and then a cutscene of my character waking up plays...

It would undercut the 'ending' a little bit.

that wouldn't be weird at all. Just remember how you started your adventure in a prison with no memory. You probably died doing something heroic before that.

It may be a little undercutting, but its better than nothing right? I'm just trying to find some even ground here.

What's a main quest?

Joking aside, I was so pissed with FO3 because I assumed the game wound't end after the main.
Off course I only had one savegame and saved right at the beginning of the point of no return at the final part of the main quest.

Yes

That was my only annoyance of Fallout 3 (until Broken Steel DLC) and NV.
