do you want a good 3rd person view?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:40 am

IMO I hope it's VERY Viable to be played in third person.

Personally I used Oblivion's third person whenever I was traveling about, exploring, etc. I just like to see my character and things.

In Skyrim I 'd love to actually be able to melee fight/sneaking about in third person (and use first person for archery/magic).

For me a 3rd person view is just a cosmetic camera that allows me to gaze at the scenery and my characters apparel at the moment. I′m not very fond of playing games in third peson view and the only way to improve it is to enhance the characters′s animations.
if it looks and sounds better, why not?

No, I don't want a good 3rd person view; if they're going to put it in they should at least make it half-assed.

I agree this is kind of a stupid question...and a dumb poll...I mean is anybody going to say
"Hey I want a 3rd person view that is worse then all other games!"

The answer is obvious and you can see the third person in the trailer when the character is walking wearing a robe.

If they give our characters bodies when we look down in 1st person view, I don't think I'd ever play 3rd person view.

And the jump!
And the view!
And Add options to have a cross hair in 3rd person.

Also I really want (in both views) to have the option to turn off Compass Map markers.

The third person view was very handy for a stealth character. Personally I didn't see anything wrong with it in oblivion but people are complaining so there must be something I can't see.

Absolutely. Vain as I am about these things, when I spend half a friggin hour finetuning the last details of my elf-mage, giving him a little colour, the hair shade and style, the features etc. I want to see this avatar interact. When I customize the vestments he dons. . . same. I didn't spend all that time in customization just to see my own hands. The only time I touch first person is when I am targeting a spell, or wish to see another characters face or the surroundings more closely.

The problem with Oblivion's 3rd person gameplay wasn't the camera.
The camera at Oblivion was at good distance, and we could always point it where we wanted.
The problem was that the game's controls where still 1st person-like while playing in 3rd person view, and that made it confusing.

For a 3rd person view to be as playeable as 1st person view, except the camera, the controls should also change to 3rd person like controls.
Which basically means that when you hold the stick down, instead of moving backwards the Player's Character makes a 180 deggrees turn and walks at that direction.

But I don't know how that could be added without changing the gameplay in a bad way.
It must need lot's of work to be done right.

Oh,and I'd like to see a 3rd person camera that we can move so we can see our charachter's face.

(What's the meaning of spending half an hour at making your face if you don't see it ?)

I found 3rd person view in all the Bethesda games I have tried to be a better experience than 1st person.

I only used 1st person on extremely rare occasions when I needed to aim a bow especially accurately, etc.

Counter Intuitive? Isn't the part of an RPG to role play as your character? Just like LARPing is Live Action Role Play?

I'm pretty sure they mean that they're not playing as themselves in-game, so they don't want to see through the eyes of their character.

Of course better than Oblivion. There should be some sort of 3rd person view but I won't play from it, just to look at my character and take screenshots on a mountain during a sunset. I really don't like 3rd person games all that much, prefer 1st person.

Of course I don't want a good third person view, I want a crappy third person view, shouldn't that be obvious?

Sarcasm aside, of course I want a better third person view. I can't see how anyone could say that keeping the third person view as unintuitive as past games is the preferable approach. In Morrowind and Oblivion, I only ever used third person view for admiring my character, and taking screenshots, the third person view really wasn't practical for anything else, in Skyrim, though, if I decide I want to play the game in third person, I want it to be as playable as first person. I'll probably still use to play it in first person most of the time, but if te option exists to use both perspectives, than both perspectives should be playable. But we already know Bethesda is working to improve third person, and from the trailer, I'd say that it looks better. As to whether it will handle better, we'll just have to see what Bethesda does on that.

I always play in 3rd person. I don't even buy games that are in 1st person.

I see myself as a guide or sidekick who accompanies my characters on their adventures. My character and I are a party of two. I will suggest that we visit a certain city, loot a certain dungeon or do a certain quest, but my suggestions are not always followed, or even appreciated. 1st person does not work with my style of roleplaying.

Also, when playing in 1st person I cannot do combat or even walk around a table without bumping into it. I have no sense of spatial awareness in 1st person. I fall off every cliff I walk near.

So, for all these reasons I voted "better than Oblivion."

Might be a bit sad, but I loved the 'vanity mode' in OB, what's the point of all that cool armour if you don't know what you look like in it. In FO:NV, this was totally broken, oh look half a hat and the frames of your glasses. I appreciate that over the shoulder is better for gameplay, I just can't help being vain when it comes to my characters.

I fear this game will be meant to be played in 3rd person. At least the trailer "felt" like that. Also, the textures are kind of weak. So third person might look better.

Of course I want good 3rd view for the people who need it. I don't, I like to play in 1st. And it would be good for Bethesda reputation as well.

I usually only use 3rd person to take screenshots, look at my character, to get a better view of something or when running around in the wilderness, so I see that wolf a few seconds before he suddenly attacks me.

It should be better, of course, but I doubt it'll be good enough to fight in 3rd person.

I would like camera moves like in Fallout, where you often saw your character from the front or from the side during a fight. Actually I think those finishing moves will include such cutscenes, at least I hope so.

Hmm. Much talk and little suggestions. So here are mine:
1) 1st person mode with freelook and full body awareness (see feet and look in other direction from where we walk).
2) 3rd person direct mode over the shoulder, with full access to camera offsets, control mode, and rigidity in settings. Allows OB or FONV or whatever you like, including separate control of the camera GTA style.

I don't use 3rd person unless viewing my character, and currently for having freelook, which *MUST* also exist in 1st person, I *BEG* you, *PLEASE* :P But as an artist, I'd like to have FULL camera control, including those offsets, just for getting the screenshots I want to compose.
