do you want a good 3rd person view?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:56 pm

Only thing I've used 3rd person for in Morrowind / Oblivion / FO3 / FO:NV was for looking at the nifty armor mods I downloaded. (Of course, that is very important, otherwise why download cool looking armor? :D )

But actually playing in 3rd person? Meh, that's always been pretty sub-optimal in these games.

I'm mostly playing in first person but there are times I want a good third person view. I'm looking forward to checking it out for Skyrim.

I play mostly in 3rd view, so i want a good 3rd view.
Oblivion's and Morrowind both were just fine.
What really is needed, is good 3rd person crosshair.

A good third-person view will be vital to my enjoyment of the game, as I hate playing any game from first-person perspective. Also, have to admire the character that I will likely spend a ridiculous amount of time perfecting.

I don't play using 3rd person, but I wouldn't want it to be gimped for others.

Counter Intuitive? Isn't the part of an RPG to role play as your character? Just like LARPing is Live Action Role Play?

I do roleplay as my character, but I am not my character and my character is not me. I don't LARP. My characters are real enough to me that playing them from first-person exclusively is just weird.

I roleplay from a "third-person subjective" perspective.

The game should not be played in 3rd person.

The game should be played however someone wants to play it.

I personally hate 1st person games, I always have.

It svcked that in Oblivion I was forced to play in 1st person during combat. I wanted to watch my guy be a badass while tearing up some enemies.

Unfortunately that didn't really happen either due to the stupid swing-swipe combat.

It gotta be from a different view perhaps from (zoomed out a bit) the shoulder... unless you turn it... this way I can use it in combat and get a good look at my char (his back probably won't be to exiting).

in Oblivion I liked to walk around in 3rd person view, just to see my character!! but i could only do that in towns or other save spots since it was not useable in combat... in skyrim i would really like to see an improved 3rd person view it may not be as good as the first person view which i will use for combat etc. but a bit better would be great
what do you think how it should be?

I only hated that you couldnt actually turn your camera around the character...

One thing I will point out, is the "Over the Shoulder" Third person perspective is actually more representative of a person's true field of vision. All of the Elder Scrolls third person perspectives have suffered, because of their sticky feel. The typical feeling of a "Hovering camera with hands in front of it" was translated into a "Hover camera right behind this poorly animated dude". It had no sense of weight, or kinetic impact. If we could get something a little more like Gears of War and Mass Effect(2), that'd be great. (I'm just talking about the camera feel in third person, don't start a sonic [censored]storm over that)

If I had to choose though, I'd like to see much better First person perspective focus. It looks a bit better, judging from the trailer, again, owing to that "kinetic" feel, where you can sense the actual footsteps. A little bit of Body Awareness would be awesome as well, but that has the downside of sometimes limiting armor designs, especially if your armor resembles WoW with shoulder plates bigger than twelve brick [censored]houses.

I much prefer playing in 3rd person to first person so I'd like a good 3rd person view for when I'm running around and fighting and such.

I would love better 3rd person, but if 1st person is improved (I can see my feet etc.) I won't use much 3rd person.

I would really like to play in 3d person because if they implemented the ability that your character gets tired over time from running or fighting, I would like to see that and feel it over him...to be able to feel my character over from 3d person perspective would only bring me closer to him...

I did most of my questing in Oblivion in 3rd person and will be doing so in Skyrim, switching to 1st only during combat, as such I hope they have implemented a good/robust 3rd person perspective in Skyrim.

I don't usually use 3rd person, but it would be good to have it improved, so then when I get awesome armour I get a good look at it in action.

You could on the PC version, at least (I don't know about the console controls). Hitting R would toggle between 1st- and 3rd-person. Holding down R would let you pan around your character.
