do you want a good 3rd person view?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:16 pm

in Oblivion I liked to walk around in 3rd person view, just to see my character!! but i could only do that in towns or other save spots since it was not useable in combat... in skyrim i would really like to see an improved 3rd person view it may not be as good as the first person view which i will use for combat etc. but a bit better would be great
what do you think how it should be?

No matter how good it is I'll never use it, but it should be way better than Oblivion's.

TES is just meant to be played in First person. It looks best that way, imo.
In Oblivion, I would only use Third person to get a wider look at my surroundings, nothing more. And I would like to keep it that way.

If it's gonna be there, it needs to be improved. The camera for Oblivion's third person was really wonky.

When exploring the provinces on foot I enjoy playing in third person. It would be neat if you could actually fight accurately in third person. I highly doubt we will be able to with a bow and arrow in Skyrim.

I only play first person, so it doesn't matter much to me. But I'd rather have a good third person view than a crappy one. Although, I really didn't like FONV's 3rd person perspective.

Yes, it needs to be just as viable as 1st person. I usually play a mix. 3rd person for viewing my character and 1st for fighting/dungeon diving. I'm not likely to change that, but it would be nice if I'm in 3rd while wandering in the wilderness and suddenly attacked by something small to not have to switch. I could just whack the little beasty and go back to admiring my hero. Yes, I would really appreciate that.

Oblivion's 3rd person view svcked.

I hope it is like Morrowind's after the Morrowind Code patch, now that was a really good third person view.

TES is meant to be played in either perspective. I dislike playing exclusively in first-person mode. In Morrowind and Oblivion, I would only use first-person to line my crosshairs up with a specific item I was trying to pick up, or to get a closer look at things, nothing more. And I would like to keep it that way.

I have a harder time roleplaying if I'm forced to play in first-person. I am not my character.

I would prefer better than Oblivion, but NOT Fallout style. If that's what we get, then that will be the first thing I mod out of my game.

Something about this poll.....

We already know there is going to be a 3rd person view, and that it's improved from Oblivion.

but thats the reason for First Person! for you to be entirely your characters, to see what hes seeing, and obviously the TES series is all about liberty, even if it is liberty to play as you wish, or first person or third person, and for that, the third person shoudn't be only a add on so players can see how they look, i definitly will use third person view, just to look badass while 'walking'(not running, like if i was playing) through a epic mountain or place, just to look completely like" im the dragonborn..... i kick ass..." but yea 85% of gameplay will be fps (ftw)

The game should not be played in 3rd person.

I think he means over the shoulder view.

As far as we can see though it's in given what looks to be in game shots and clips from the trailer. Plus over the shoulder viewpoint is the norm in third person games these days; pretty much has been since Resident Evil 4 back in 2005/6.

This post gave me an idea, what if the game had cutscenes? In oblivion I would only go into 3rd person to see my character, because I dunno why, bu its great to see the caracter you spent hundreds of hours making your own fighting, and stuff. It's kind of like seeing yourself on the news y'know? It would be awesome if you could see your character doing epic stuff in cutscenes! Now I know what you guys are probably thinking "The Elder Scrolls shouldn't have cutscenes!" Well I just want to know, why? Just because the other games didn't have them? I say if the change would make the game better, than go ahed and make it! This same thing happened in GTA, lots of people said that they hated GTA IV just because it didn't have everything that GTA: SA had. I say GTA IV was one of the best games this decade! People should just enjoy a game for what it is, and stop comparing it to other games.

sorry if this got kinda off topic, lol

That was great for Resident Evil 4 and believe me I loved that game, but I hated that view in Fallout. In FO3 and NV, thankfully there were mods that changed this.

No, I don't want a good 3rd person view; if they're going to put it in they should at least make it half-assed.

Same and to get a character screenshot, much like Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

I really like being able to look at my character, so a better third person view would be nice. In oblivion I used to run around in third person, and switch to first person in combat.

Counter Intuitive? Isn't the part of an RPG to role play as your character? Just like LARPing is Live Action Role Play?

It'd be nice for third person to be a legitimate option for stealth characters or just for basic things like admiring the scenery. Personally I play first person, but I would never object to a good third person view. It could come in handy for certain things.

Edit for spelling
