Do you want a hardcoe mode?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 1:24 am

I'm hoping that the hardcoe mode is adjustable so you can fine tune it to keep the game challenging but not frustrating.

As much work that Bethesda is doing to max replay value, I can't see them not including a hardcoe mode.

It is one of those no brainers cause the hardcoe fans will desperately want it and if you don't want it you don't have to use it.

I know that hardcoe mode will have extensive mods created for it as soon as the tools are released, but I'd put it in just to now have to listen to the whining until then.

So far Bethesda seems to be doing a great job side stepping any thing truly controversial that would just distract them from making F4 the best game it can be.

And since the modder will likely address any thing that Bethesda does side step, I'm fine with them focusing on the game.

hardcoemode is essential for me. It was (and still is) one of the best things Wanderers Edition brought to Fallout 3 and i think we still have to praise Obsidian for that mode in New Vegas. It was a good start but again a mod was necessary (Project Nevada) for a true hardcoe experience.

If F4 has no hc-mode it would be a huge dissapointment for me and modders have to save the game (again).

And then there's the issue of, we have people talking about multiple different things under the term "hardcoe".

1. Maintenance/"primary needs" - have to eat/drink/sleep

2. More "realism" in inventory/healing/etc - ammo has weight, stims heal over time, etc

3. More unforgiving combat & injury - bleeding, die in a few hits

All different things, and each poster has different preferences (some favor 1, but don't care about 2; some dislike 1, but like 2 & 3; etc). All called "hardcoe". If only Obsidian had come up with a different term for it in the first place.

(esp. since "hardcoe" had previously been used in various ARPGs to represent "only 1 death" gameplay.)

I chose "I don't know" because I don't care if there is a hardcoe mode or not. I'll never use it.

New Vegas 'hardcoe' was not hard core. Dragging around inventory and pausing the game continuously to eat or drink something was lame. Having 2 or 3 bullets of the same caliber even more lame. Having no storage near a campfire beyond lame. FO3 = less is more, FNV = jack of trades master of none.

Now if hardcoe means enemies can one shot you and almost always aim for the head. I endorse that hard core but not the FNV version.

It can be in the game but probably won't use it. Played it once in FNV.

Since it's a mode, why not? Heck, there should be an "Extra hardcoe" mode for those with micromanagement and real life fetishes. ^^

I'm all for many difficulty settings so as to accommodate as many styles of play as reasonably possible. However, the hardest difficulty setting should have an extensive variety of difficulty options which- if all are activated- should provide the most "realistic" and / or accurate setting which the developers can produce. On this hardest of all settings, the player doesn't sleep off a shotgun wound, food doesn't heal shattered limbs, the player must "fill what's empty and empty what's full", no lugging around 5,000 rounds of ammunition for your minigun and 50 rounds for your rocket launcher, and- like you- your companions can die. Lastly, one of the options should be that if the player is "killed", no reloads. The operative phrase is "options".

The question we should be asking is will bethesda want to make any kind of "mode" at all? I cant see anything like a hardcoe "mode" in there games.
my money is on bethesda making the environment more dangerous to traverse realistic fall damage(like skyrim), radiation being much more deadlier with accumulating effects , raiders with more accurate shooting (I would say better AI like team work, flanking, flushing you from cover with explosives or something like that but AI is an iffy thing I guess. Well my two cents

Good Morning,

I guess I've seen it somewhere in the videos when Scott was building a fortress, hunger/thirst? What about sleep deprivation and hypothermia?

Chesko will probably take care of the later, but it wouldn't do any harm if it's already in the game to be improved?

Ya mean settlement thing? That's the settlers needs for food and water, similar to Fallout shelter.

So far no confirmation of any hardcoe mode or such for the player.

There doesn't seem to be any implications or hints that a survival/hardcoe mode is in the game sadly, based off things such as achievements and perks but who knows, maybe it's in after all. We just don't know at this moment. (But like remmus said, the food and water in the settlement building scenes are just to attract people and maintain the population's needs, kind of like needing to construct additional pylons in Starcraft to increase your maximum units. ;)

I wouldnt expect there to be a trophy for hardcoe mode, cuz then that forces you to use something that is very optional, if you want to get all trophies.

But I really hope there is a hardcoe Mode, just maybe customizable. You want hunger/food/sleep but still want no weight ammo? Done. Want both of those, but dont want Stimpacks to heal over time instead of instantly? Done.

Id choose the latter. I need Stimpacks to heal instantly.

Settler needs then? That sounds interesting indeed. I'm afraid I don't see any hint either. New Vegas had it, after a patch, FO3 didn't. Video shows diverse indicators they de-RPG-ized and actionized the game in favor of consolers. Do I worry to much? I just hope I won't be forced to put the game in the closet for the first year, because it first has to be probarly modded. Seriously devs, give us choice, not absolutes.

Weren't stimpacks confirmed to only heal over time? (and to play an 'injecting' animation before kicking in?).

Yeah, it would seem that a lot of the great features from NV may not be in at all, or at least have not shown up in anything yet to make me believe they're in, which include things such as ammo casings and ammo reloading (a mild loss imo, though, felt like it just added to the clutter eventually), hardcoe mode or any actual "survival" elements and perks except possibly slow-healing stimpacks like tiny lampe said, and we don't know if there will be a faction reputation system considering that out of all the Fallout games, the only other one that Bethesda has made besides 4 is 3 which had karma only and no reputation unfortunately. NV did feel more RPG-esque than Fallout 3 did, including how many choices you could make.

I'd rather have actual fun hardcoe features than the extremely boring and all too fixable needs mmentionned; might as well need to use the bathroom every 2 hours while were at it. Hypothermia is/would be a fun feature though.

Actually Bethesda stated a while back that storms would cause bursts of radiation that would force players to seek shelter. I really hope thats really in the game because thats a feature I can truely consider hardcoe.

Oh dear. If you honestly believe that, then you can relax in the knowledge that the Modders will eventually "flesh out" your RPG experience in the long run.

True, that may add some "survival" to the game but then again staying alive in a battle is also survival haha. But yeah that could be pretty hardcoe!

hardcoe mode in not neccessary with F4, as now the mods are going even to consoles - so there are many hardore modes to come. NV's mode was important because of consoles and their lack of options (aka mods).
