Do you want a hardcoe mode?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:44 am

Thought I'd make a poll on this because there's a lot of talk about it.

Do you want a hardcoe mode?

I vote YES!

I want to hunt for food, die of thirst, suffer sleep penalties and much more.

If by hardcoe mode you mean the need to eat, drink and sleep then yes. :)

An "I don't care" option should be on the poll.

hardcoe mode was interesting in NV but the only thing people seemed to do was make it even harder with mods and complain about how easy it was in the base game.

People may have different preferences for the hardcoe mode features, but at least it was much easier to make this kind of mod with the system already in place.

^^ There you go Beth, the community has spoken :D

I don't even play TES/Fallout without modding in the best survival mods. No point, totally boring imo.

Not quite true actually, if you had hardcoe mode disabled and your own hardcoe mod installed you would still have companions who can't die (because hardcoe mode is disabled) and ammo would NOT have weight.

Ah, I see - haven't tried playing with hardcoe mode disabled while using a separate hardcoe mod that requires it to be turned off - and which mod? Enjoyed Arwen's Realism Tweaks and dabbled a bit with making one of my own, but IIRC both of these required the mode to be enabled.

It was easier to make the kind of mods BronzeKnight mentioned above, though, since all that was needed was to adjust some game settings like rate of dehydration, prevalence of water in merchant inventory, etc. Obviously a bigger challenge to make a survival mod for Skyrim or FO3, for example.

Hell yes.

I don't understand why "no" should be in the poll. If it's optional why would anyone vote for no? Some kind of complex?

Agreed. I don't know just means that if it is in the game, I don't know if I will play in that mode until more details about what it does are revealed. I won't use it if it makes enemies into bullet sponges, but might decide to use it if it requires that I eat, drink and sleep on a regular basis, and plan accordingly. I would not however, likely do so on a first time play through the game.

Options I'd like to see include -

Food

Drink

Sleep

Ammo has weight

Stimpacks heal over time

Only doctors can heal limbs

Addictions

Visual penalties for the above (blurred vision, shaky aim, blackouts etc..)

Bottle caps have weight

Varying water source quality (dirty, irradiated, pure etc..)

Diseases and infections that will determine NPC disposition toward you

Realistic hit damage

Toxic dust storms

Temperature penalties

penalties for being wet

Guns jamming and breaking mid use

Oh I always make my own hardcoe/realism/survival mod, can't remember how I did it for NV though, not played it in a few years. Think the basis was hunger, thirst, sleep, temperature, and mood.

Already designing such a mod for F4 :D

Honestly don't see why anyone would vote against it as long as it's an optional mode.

The more options to customize the experience, the better.

Oh hell yes hardcoe Mode is needed. Want it exactly how New Vegas implemented it. Only thing that needs to be tweaked is all chems including stimpaks, need to have weight.

If it's not in, then I know what first mods I'm going to look for... Once you go hardcoe you can never go back.

Because he's asking a personal opinion. Do you want this mode? (I suppose he could phrase it differently: "would you use a hardcoe mode" perhaps.)

Me? No, I have no interest in Extra Tedium mode. (Also, I think it needs to be called something different. Simulation mode, survival mode, whatever. There's nothing "hardcoe" about it, regardless of how one defines "hardcoe".)

Theres nothing hard about the mode as described. As Kiralyn pointed out, tedious mode would be a better fit. Honestly, did anyone die of thirst/hunger/sleep in fallout nv? All it did is make my character eat/drink/sleep like he was a narcoleptic diabetic.

Now, if you were talking about the bits that actually did increase difficulty, you would get a different response from me. Like ammo having weight, medical bags being useful, stims healing over time... All those things forced some real choices in what you bring along.

All that being said, we don't know what is on by default in fo4. I have a suspicion that some of the features I like are on by default.

Funny you say that, I consider it far more tedious running around with no concern for hunger/thirst etc.. The game becomes a mere run and gun affair.
