Do you want/have kids?

Post » Sat Aug 22, 2009 2:17 am

And could not having children be selfish if you are well enough to have one?

That's a good question. I have known women who didn't want to ruin their figure. It was important to them. Importance is relative to each one of us. Priorites differ, I don't think it makes them bad. If someone adopts because they can't handle being pregnant, it is a good thing.
I could have been considered equally selfish in continuing my pregnancies, despite having health issues. (diabetes, a seizure disorder, and pcos). Pregnancy made them much much worse, and it was hard on both me and the children, both in and out of the womb. I suffered seizures, placenta abruptae, severe bleeding, preeclampsia, and eclampsia. It's why I had myself sterilized, a dead mother is not a good mother.

Well I really dont want any kids, I am even thinking of getting a visectomy. I kind of have this Kronos complex where I am certain that if I do have a kid they are going to murder me when they get older.

I seriously wish someone would explain the whole "cravings" thing to me. A couple of weeks ago, my wife came home with a can of hominy and a pickled egg. I mean who eats that? I didn't even know what hominy was, I thought it was a can of corn until I opened it. She also had this strawberry jag that lasted for about a month. But on the bright side, I haven't had to get up at 5 am to go to Hardee's to get a sausage and gravy biscuit so I guess it could be worse.

I ate peanut butter and octopus sandwiches. Foods, even envrionments tend to smell and taste different when you are pregnant. Some foods we consider normal smell and taste atrocius during pregnancy. That is hormone related, heh.
And I tend to agree, we instinctively crave what our bodies need. I ate a lot of fresh greens and yogurt when pregnant.
Defintely needed the calcium.
Some pregnant women and malnutritioned children have mineral deficiencies and eat clay, dirt, or plaster objects. It's called pica.

I dont like the idea of that, sounds painful as hell and cant be reversed (it can sometimes but still unlikely) your kids wont kill you, unless you have a son who suffers from freuds oedipus complec.

Little Hans!?!?!?! :o

I would quite like kids one day, at this rate though I'm more likely to become a lonely old spinster with cats.

Yeah but otherwise he'd have to eat his babies.

Kids can be fun. They can also be a pain in the [censored]. Like all people, they're much more bearable in limited doses. That being said, I wouldn't mind having kids. It's certainly not going to happen any time soon, nor do I really want it to. I have enough trouble looking after myself, so until I get that under control having a family is just asking for trouble.

Got a nephew. I can watch him grow, and scream, and do whatever. Maybe watch him get a sister or brother along the line if my brother is up to it. lol I can play with 'em, laugh with 'em, do whatever with 'em, and then I can leave 'em and get some genuine peace. Never want kids, ever. I might wanna catch a flight to Russia for the hell of it, for a day trip, and not be able to. That would gnaw at me.

I do not want children. Here's why:

Would not want that kind of responsobility. Ever. The idea that I'm basically entirely responsible for another human life is terrifying to me.

This world svcks and I wouldn't want to bring a kid up in it anyway.

I hate children.

My genes svck so bad. If I was to have a kid, it'd probably be a genetic disaster. Wouldn't it be selfish to create something to satisfy my own biological clock, even if doing so condemned an individual to life-long suffering and misery?

Also: Better to have none than to be one of those horrible moms you read about on Failblog, or end up on the nightly news because of infanticide.

I'd be a horrible parent, I have very little patience for stupidity.

Corgi puppies, on the other hand, I would love to have. :3 They house-train faster, they cost less, and they are OH SO CUTE AND SNUGGLY! Human babies are fugly.

The Lasagna Queen didn't get much in the way of cravings. With our first, though, she went through milk and yogurt like it was going out of style -- but she cut back after finding out that drinking a gallon of milk in a day really didn't agree with her. With our second and third, she wanted Guinness -- but couldn't have it.

Cravings are usually a signal that your body is short on a nutrient, and subconsciously you crave foods that you believe provide that nutrient. Those cravings, like the cliche http://www.cupcakeproject.com/2009/02/pickle-and-ice-cream-cupcakes.html, are not based on rational thought, culinary considerations, or concern for your partner. When you're pregnant, that baby is going to take everything it needs at your expense, and it's not unusual, for example, to run short on calcium, or iron, or B vitamins, etc. With the exception of out-of-control cravings for sugary food, junk food, or things that aren't even food, there's nothing wrong with them, and they're good for a laugh years later.

I have two. One is mine and the other is my stepson. Out of the two children I have I find my biological daughter adorable. She is only 7 weeks old. The 10 year old stepson........well.....lets just say that he acts like a girl. Whines, cries....complains.....always has something to say.......I find him incredibly annoying....and no matter how hard I try to get him to do a little growing up he constantly runs to mommy to hide under her apron strings.....in a word...he is more of a baby than my baby daughter.

I guess that's what I get having a boy raised by 4 women for the first 7 years of his life. You get a Girl-Boy. Hes not quite a boy but not really a girl...he is a girl-boy.

Man, I can't wait till he is in high-school...he is going to get his ass kicked and its going to be great for me...because everything I've spend the past 4 years telling him is going to come true. "If you don't stop running your mouth you are going ot get in even worse trouble." "Kids in high-school aren't going to sympathize with your whining tone of voice." "Kids in high-school aren't going to put up with your ""I'm right and you are wrong."" attitude."....man, its gonna be great....

"Mommy, mommy...so and so beat me up today."

Me in the back ground: "HAHAHAHAHA I told you...now grow up...."

I guess I am a jerk......

No thanks. If I get married I don?t want to have kids. I don?t want it to ruin my relationship with my partner, starting arguments, constant struggle with money, trying to balance discipline with fun, no thanks. Would rather spend my life loving my partner without those stresses.

There is a nice group on facebook ?join if you were born in the 90s, don?t have a kid and are not pregnant? im a proud member :)

But that would make these people 20 at the most. I'm sure most 20 year olds who have access to Facebook don't have children.

It was also the best thing that ever happened to me, so if that's selfish I'm gonna take it. The best things in life aren't free but they are worth it.

Actually I'd say that was anything but selfish. That was very kind of you, and I respect that immensely.

The progress that leads to the child seems frightening, annoying and something that definitely does not fit my character. I'm anything but a caring person.
If I could just spawn a child in front of me, I would consider.

I can't say I like children, but my 5 year old cousin is like my brother. I can't imagine myself as a father, but then again who did before having children? I also think it will depend on my wife, after all she is the one that will be more ... involved, lol.

I would join that group, but my best friend who is turning 20 along with me just had a child a month ago, so she'd take serious offense.

Seriously teens: keep it in your pants. That goes for girls and guys. There's a time and a place for everything. Teenagerdom is not it, nor is high school.

EDIT:
I've had my kids, now I'm working on grandchildren (btw, granddaughter born yesterday morning 6lb 11oz :D). Maybe in a dozen years I can start looking forward to great grandchildren.
Congratulations! I'm becoming an aunt in a matter of hours. My mom's becoming a grandmother for the first time, but while I've been an aunt several times over, this will be the first time that I'll actually be involved in the child's life. Weird!
