Do you want more variety in spells?

Post » Mon Apr 18, 2011 10:03 am

One thing I wish the TES magic system took from the D&D system, is the variety of spells.

Spells that I would love in Skyrim.

-Mirror Image, Creats x copies of your character. The copies do about 25% damage you do, and can be taken out with one hit.
-More creative damaging spells, ie:Acid Arrow, it'd be different means to the same end, but it would atleast look cool, and be awesome for RPers.
-Polymorph, where it changes a target creature to a sheep or some such. The target would change back whenever you attack it, but it would be great for crowd control.
-Arcane Eye (would deplete magic for every second you use it) being able to see ahead of you would be great, but there would be limits.
-Slow, this might be overkill for archers, but it sounds like a good idea
-Slow Fall/Levitate, Skyrim is full of mountains, plus how great would it be for dungeons to incorporate places you can only go with levitate?

Just a thought, what would you want?

I feel great presence of scripted spell effect there

I quit playing PC games a couple years back. Hated having to upgrade my PC every two years.

So, me (and I'm sure a whole lot others) will be playing it on the 360.

Yep, I've been saying this in th previous threads about spell variety.

Bring on A floating hand
Moving and tangling roots
Good ol' Magic Missle (like the way Baldur's Gate had it)
Time Stop (or maybe this will be a dragon shout)

But my favorite would be Blade Barrier.

Of course, I have a soft spot for Stinking Cloud as well...

Well because of consoles I don't significantly update my PC last three years (since I don't relay on graphic advantages but instead on gameplay features, dialogues quest and design), I don't say thats bad or good since it has advantages and advantages as well.
But playing game with ability to mod it is significant advantage of PC.
Most of your spells can be done or already done with mods in Oblivion, and such mods didn't need Powerful PC to work.

Anyway such scripted spells can be done by Dev's also, thats isn't hard and even does not need hardcoded engine edits.
They do such spells before also, so I don't see any problems in such spells implementation.

That's the point, we need more spells like that!

Now I'm patiently waiting until somebody brings up how with spellmaking you had infinite possibilities and Skyrim will now svck if they remove it...

Have to agree with slowfall 100%, and the wizard eye thing sounds cool, but if you get hurt while your focus is elsewhere and aren't defending yourself, it should really hurt.

Well for one I don't even know the variety of spells we have in Skyrim.

Need more information before I just start wanting things that may already be there.

I don't want more types of spells, but am interested in how the variety of new spell effects will work.

I'm really not eager to see D&D or WoW spells transplanted to TES. Those spells are fun in those games, but would become stale if they became standard issue. And with new methods of casting and the addition of dragon shouts, I don't see Skyrim casters as lacking variety. To be truthful, my characters tend not to take full advantage of the variety we already have. :)

Well then :frog:
Slow Fall/Levitate was available for spell making before and classical feature of TES why remove it while it can be fixed?
Using Z axis by NPC is heavy scripted if will be done with standard scripts, it will better work on low level hardcoded engine logic as separate spell effect, no need to say thats hard or cannot achievable its 2011 year and if team of skilled and experienced game developers cannot do such features http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgrUPA-TlhM thats really strange, is this not?
Besides Spellmaking its only one way to create new spells on consoles, without modding they are relay only on spellmaking with unique spell effects, without of them they are stay only with premade spells, how horrible thats is? :hubbahubba:
They already have reduced number of spell effects and without scripted spells such number of possibilities for mages become even smaller.
From other side there always can be another spell tomes DLC for them, another part of your :cake: for additional price.

I want necromancy. For what I've read in Morrowind and Oblivion the quality of the corpse depends on which environments it was preserved in as well as the race. The forbidden magic should be tampered by the PC.

Well, yes. Not wanting spells imported from other games doesn't mean I wouldn't like a full complement of TES spells.

Mark/Recall would be kind of useless because of fast travel. I never did figure out why they put in a lock spell. And Slowfall/Levitation would be awesome, if not over powered.

Whenever there is a poll asking if people want more of somthing people say yes. I just don't see the point anymore. All do you want more questions should be worded so that it is understood that devs cant just add more, there time is limited, so you have to give up something else to get more of x.

Well more/new spells effects is always a good thing and if you look at the way todd talked about the new magic system i'm pretty confident it will be great, some new spell effects have already been confirmed

flamethrower spell :flamethrower: frost spells will now slown down targets, there's the new ward spell, there's a spell that creates a magic circle that reppels ennemies, etc.

So, can't wait to start a battlemage in Skyrim :tes:
