Do you want one last expansion pack for TES: V SSE?

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2016 4:15 am

I know there are more than three games, but like you said the Elder Scrolls are not sequels instead they are series. If a trilogy isn't the same thing as a serie then I dunno what you're referring to.

I didn't mean a "double" trilogy, but what I mean is a history for each game that somehow follow a timeline set by the Elder Scrolls.

Note that I have only played Morrowind, Oblivion (not finish the MQ yet due for being a mod addict :P ), and Skyrim, and to me this is what I think it is.

Morrowind (the Empire starts crumbling at the same time certain events on Vvardenfell have forced the Empire to abandon Morrowind)

Oblivion (the Oblivion crisis puts an end to the once mighty and majestic Empire)

Skyrim (the return of dragons and now is the Empire even more weakened due to the treaty with the Dominion)

Well, no, because the events of Arena and Daggerfall are also about the life and times of Emperor Uriel Septim VII, just like Morrowind and Oblivion. The first four games occur over a 40 year period, and they all start with the player-character being sent on a mission by or for the emperor.

If anything, Skyrim is the beginning of a new "series," since it's two centuries later.

Yep. The first four games are "coherent" in that they exist and are played out in a pretty short space of time. I started with Arena, and the following three - while advancing graphically (if you can call it that....) - were virtually "a life lived" within that life's extent. I literally played the same girl through all of them - she got a bit older, but it was the same woman over the time period of the four games.

Skyrim.... well, it's part of the "series" so to speak. But it's so far down the road time-wise that my Oblivion woman (a mature version of my Arena girl) is long dead - and her great-great granddaughter is one of my current Skyrim girls.

Thank goddess the graphics are better....

I would agree. So far, it just happens that they follow one another in a linear fashion. Yet they are all separate stories set in differing places :)

Pah! You young'uns just don't understand! :nono:

But seriously, Arena is the beginning of the crumbling of the Empire, and the series continues that theme to the point that the Empire is a hollow shell in Skyrim. The Empire didn't really start abandoning Morrowind until the time of Oblivion, when they had to bring Imperial Legion forces back into Cyrodiil.

You should try Arena and Daggerfall when you get the chance.

Auridon, perhaps? That could be a Solstheim-like expansion. Or dare I say the Isle of Artaeum?

Although if we went the route of the Dragonborn acting as a catalyst for overthrowing the Thalmor, I am not sure how that would happen from the cities of Firsthold and Skywatch on Auridon. But if we wanted to do something with the Psijiic Order, the Isle of Artaeum could be used, although that would probably only make sense after doing the College of Winterhold questline. (Although there is a bug that frequently happens during one of the quests that can lock people out from a large portion of the questline. I don't remember how I got past it but it caused my buddy who plays on PS3 to get stuck on it, unable to complete the rest of the questline. If this were a DLC maybe Bethesda would finally fix the bug).

Not in particular. I thought the game was fairly complete after the DLC's. That being said, the main selling point for the SSE for console users is mods and well, if that's what they want to throw out there, I would really like it to be possible to get certain mods that require SKSE. That's on the console manufacturers though, and Bethesda needs to twist their arms some more.

I don't really care if Skyrim gets another expansion or not. No one seems to realize that Skyrim:SE will have free mods, in which some will expand that game....which explains Bethesda won't have to make expansions when they have the modding community for that. IF...Sony gamers get that at all.

I think that was intended as a joke. :)

As for whether you choose to play Arena or Daggerfall, that's obviously up to you, but don't be surprised if those of us who have played those games correct you as to the nature of the series.

Those two games, Daggerfall in particular, introduced much of the lore that the series is built upon.

Twas only a joke on my part (not sure if you are joking or not). Hence why I said "But seriously..." afterwards. I myself am not that old, despite my somewhat frequent proclamations to the contrary. I apologize if you thought I was serious, but I thought I was clear.

My suggestion was also not meant to be a "You're not a real fan if you don't play these games!" deal or anything like that. Just a recommendation for two games I feel are great games that people should not miss out on. :)

I'd like to see, in an utopian new dlc:

- loading screens removal

- season feasts, each different for every city

- more caravans, with carriages and stuff

- backpacks

- more citizens inside the main cities

- a stunning new main quest with evil mages, necromancers and, why not, warlocks

- interesting side quests and random events-encounters

- lootable armor from draughr, new and a little bit fancier caster robes and staves

- last but not least, survival features trasversal to every difficulty level, which intensify the higher is the level.

Ulfric has no navy and the Altmer have the best in all of Tamriel....the chances are higher that Ulfric becomes the second Talos before he invades the Summerset Isles.Oh and does not have the military strenght to do it to begin with.

Ulfric Stormcloak can get the navy and military strength if we get the Imperials to side with him. And the Redguards.

which would have been possible if Ulfric had gained independence via diplomacy, rather than war and regicide..

due to how Ulfric went about it, the Empire likely views him just as much (if not more) as their enemy as the Dominion is

If we win the Civil War quest when we side with Ulfric Stormcloak and get someone else in as a replacement after we kill General Tullius then we can get the Imeprials to side with Ulfric Stormcloak to fight the Thalmor.

Bethesda Game Studios can write the lore. It's their lore. I'd like to see them write a story where when we kill General Tullius when we side with Ulfric Stormcloak that the Imerials ally with him and take the fight to the Thalmor.

so in other words you want writing that makes no sense, either in-universe or out-universe?

it would make no sense for the Empire to ally with Ulfric after everything he did in his search for independence, unless you want Nickelodeon cartoon level writing.. it would make about as much sense as world wide peace breaking out by Ulfric inviting everyone to a tea party, only for Talos to show up holding hands with Boethia and saying "hey man, fighting ain't cool man, lets go hit the half pipe instead!" and handed everyone a skateboard and sun glasses

what your asking for Ballowers, is for the writers to do something simply for the sake of doing it even if it doesn't make sense.. that is a corner stone of bad writing (unless your entire series is meant as a self parody, in which case it works and is mildly hilarious, but TES isn't one of those games that is meant as self parody) because it makes no sense from everything we know about the setting..

Ballowers, you often personally say you want them to step up their game as far as writing goes, and you praise Witcher 3s writing as the level they should achieve.. however, you don't seem to be understanding that to achieve good writing, it has to make sense within the world as it is presented..

doing something that doesn't make sense in the setting "simply because people would think its cool" heavily deters good writing, because it goes against the core philosophy of making a believable world.. your essentially advocating polar opposites simultaneously here, your saying you want better writing, but you want them to use poor writing techniques because you think it would be "cool to see"..

look at some of the greatest widely loved literary works out there, even if their worlds are completely otherworldly in nature (think Tolkeins works, or to a lesser extent many of the entries in Terry Brooks Shannara series), throughout the series everything is written in a manner that makes sense from what is already presented..

Ballowers, fyi, I am not trying to be rude here (it may seem as such, as their are numerous topics we do not seem to agree on.. although there have been quite a few we have over the years), I am just trying to explain to you...

I personally want to see them up their game in their writing, perhaps even surpassing the quality Morrowind and Redguard had on that front.. however, doing something that makes no sense in the setting simply because "hey, wouldn't that be cool though?" is the exact opposite of good writing, and will only serve to enhance to common belief people have of "Bethesda, makers of beautiful worlds to explore, but their writing seems to get worse with every release"..

It would make sense we never have a conclusion to the Civil War and I'd like to be able to defeat the Thalmor so that all Nords or any other people like the High Elves, Imperials can freely worship Talos if they want to or any other god(s).

We got a conclusion to the oblivion crisis in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion when Martin Septim turns into a dragon and all the oblivion gates get closed.

Why shouldn't we get a conclusion in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to have the Thalmor stop pursuing any people who want to worship Talos?

So yes it makes sense.

it doesn't make sense.. "conclusion" is not what doesn't make sense, after everything Ulfric did the empire suddenly allying with him is what doesn't, and even then they wouldn't have the man power..

maybe you will understand if i make a real world comparison..

say I rallied a group of my fellow Canadians, we killed or exiled every politician that didn't submit to my will within Alberta (I am not from Alberta, i am simply using it as an example), wiped out every Military Official and base within the province, and shot down a plane with the prime minster aboard as it flew overhead.. afterwords, i declared Alberta a sovereign nation..

in that scenario, do you think it would be realistic for the Federal Government to say "ohh sure, thats fine we don't mind.. ohh, but how about you join us and we cross the border and wipe the US off the earth, we don't have what it would take, but it would sure be cool if we won!".. no, they would send in the rest of their military and allies (probably including the US) and run me into the ground, or keep fighting until they no longer could..

what your suggesting is essentially the same thing with a TES coat of paint, thats why it makes no sense within the setting.. your asking for something that makes no sense simply because "it would be cool".. once again, you advocate for great writing, but you openly ask for the opposite due to "rule of cool"

as for your comparison with Oblivion, the Oblivion crisis was the games main story.. Skyrims Civil War isn't, Skyrims story is about the return of Dragons and the World Eater, the Civil War is just something going on at the same time..

and even then, the Dominion is not a Belligerent in the conflict, the Conflict is between Ulfrics Rebellion, and Imperial Loyalists.. the dominion is not part of it, they are not directly aiding either side, they have an embassy and a few officials in the province. if that makes them part of the conflict, I guess half the western world is responsible for the situation in Ukraine.. invading the Dominion to End Skyrims Civil War (you do know what a Civil War is, right? even by the very definition the Dominion isn't involved) would be like invading North Korea to end the Syrian conflict..

btw, there were many questlines in Oblivion (and even Morrowind) we never got full conclusions of either, because they were side quests and not the main one.. once again, Skyrim is not about the Civil War, its about Dragons..

As it stands I'm not a professional writer and for me a conclusion to defeat the Thalmor makes sense.

We will argue a lot about this so I think we should agree to disagree. Agreed?

They do! Autumn is The Rift! Spring is Falkreath! Winter is The Pale, Winterhold, and Windhelm. Summer may be The Eastmarch, with its hot springs

This actually brings up something I considered the other day while playing: Has anyone had their calendar change years? I think in all my playthroughs, the year is always 201. If so, how many years passed?

I'd love to see another official expansion (I would think console gamers would too, as I understand they'll get very limited mod storage space?) but i'd like to see it kept well away from the Thalmor....personally I'd like to see the Thalmor as a fully fleshed out and joinable faction (at the expense of not being able to join another, like the great houses in morrowind) in a future game.

I have no idea what kind of expansion, possibly something that would expand on the (frankly lacking) magic system/spells available but unless you're looking at an expansion the size of all the ones from the last 3 games combined then I'd rather not stray into other provinces....except for maybe Tribunal style expansion limiting us to a (much larger) Imperial City....with a quest line involving maybe trying to reclaim powerful artifacts from the Arcane University in competition with the Synod/College of Whispers. Could go in a lot of directions just confined to the imperial City and the ruins in/under/around resulting from the Great War and would be able to expand a little on the Thalmor as they would be likely to have a far greater presence in the Imperial City.

All this is just spit balling though, I think the chances of us actually getting another DLC are slim to non-existant....but who knows? Beth might return to some shelved expansion ideas to cover some of the gap between now and TES 6
