Do you Want piecemental armour?

Post » Mon Jan 31, 2011 2:25 am

Do you want Piecemental armour in Skyrim like was in Morrowind? or may be even better? So be able to wear a pauldron on right and a different pauldron on left and so on?

Piecemental armour is the ability to wear different types of armour wherever you want so basically more armour slots like shoulder left , shoulder right , left kneee right knee etc...

yes, one thing that defines an RPG is looking like someone who got dressed in the dark just so you can get all the best enchantments and protection.

If player's want to look good, give them the choice to match thier armor together, dont force it on everyone.

Extra note:

Anyone ever remember the feeling of being able to find that last pauldron you need to compelte your set of armor in morrowind? It really felt like an acomplishment, you never really got that in oblivion when their was only 6 pieces.

The GI screenshots lead me to believe that there are more apparel slots. If this turns out to be false, I will be disappointed.

Do you mean piecemeal? Eh, I don't know. I mean, from a fashion standpoint it's cool to have one pauldron on and one off, maybe, and I always loved wearing Wraithguard with a full set of some other armor, I always thought that looked badass. But it's so easy to abuse with the enchanting system. So if we have a ton of pieces, then we have to nerf enchanting or just change how it works in general.

So, if we could more armor pieces along with enchanting systems that compliment having so many pieces, then sure.

Or, better yet, just have the ability to just use smithing to alter the armor yourself and decide if you want both pauldrons or just one?

They fixed that in morrowind by having the pauldrons/gauntlets have quite small enchantment amounts.

pointless flame removed edit: <-i was joking

we want individual armour plates. every single piece that makes up a suit of armour must be included. morrowinds armour was way to limited. i want chestplates, backplates, shirts, the leather that goes under plates but over cloths, individual boots that are seperate from greaves. those cool poncho/rag things that go around the neck and chest. socks and underwear, skirts, armoured skirts etc

morrowind had the most desirable system, although i would like a few more pieces

this enchantment balancing thing that people want so much can be balenced without removing pieces

The word you are looking for is "piecemeal". I seen you use this word a lot, and find it kind of rude that no one has corrected you at this point.

as for the topic. I'm not so interested in the return of separate pauldrons and separate gloves. I prefer Obs base system but with that larger amount of biped slots that Fallout added.

Now do not let people say, "fallout had only helm and body". It most certainly did not, well technically most vanilla armor was set up that way.. but it actually had more total slots than oblivion had. And even allowed for left and right gloves. Cept people do not know this, as in vanilla most of these items were set up as armor addon form lists and attached to outfits, this means when the outfit was equiped those extra addons, gloves for example, were also force equiped, but added no weight, took up no extra inventory space, and added no armor value.
However the slot is still there, I have used them in modded outfits, and used the biped slots on their own outside of form lists.

Very much a problem particularly with pauldrons, the issue is inter-compatibility between the assets. half the glass pauldrons could be clipping through a daedric cuirass. Just try this with oblivion assets, go see how many of oblivions different pauldrons will fit in any respectable manner over a daedric cuirass. Not that many I expect.
Even with pauldron bones like in fallout it wouldn't matter, the shape of the cuirass being way different between assets would just cause mad clipping. I suppose there is a way to do so, but my brain is saying things i know are too pointless to bother trying..

How did MW do this? It's didn't really pull it off, well it clipped like mad between assets. And is probably part of the design decision as to why that disappeared going into Ob.
How come that didn't bother anyone? it did, and the low res hid it, and the segmented bodies and lack of blended skin weights on armor meant loads of it clipped like mad anyway.

I don't really care that much which way BGS goes. Although I suppose piece metal armor would be better for more exploration and more customization. Although to be honest, I personally didn't think it looked that great in Morrowind.

Yes. Yes indeed... Especially having to steal all the different pieces from different shops around the land.

Ya I'm hoping the devs recognize the gratification that comes from getting sweet loot. They seem to be focused on better combat and setting(which is great) but I don't want to look like a total idiot the whole time. http://tes.ag.ru/oblivion/armor/img/steel_armor.gif

I remember when I played Morrowind and killed a guy wearing an iron cuirrass without a shirt. When I looted him I thought "Well, gosh, no wonder he attacked me. He must have been so cranky from the chafing." You could wear your briast plate over your shirt, and add a robe over that. It would be nice and toasty for those cold Skyrim nights.

Yes and no. I *do* want to go adventuring for "that full set". Although it could work for some styles, I have no objections to making i.e. the basis of a steel plated armor set only accept parts matching that design. You may have leather armor where a pauldron flexes with the body (it's just a woven in pad on the armor itself), but you can't put it on a steel plated curiass which demands a rigid setup with a different mount position. Allowing this mix can look catastrophic. Think FO3 for an extreme example (but still valid): How do you mount part of a tire to a power armor? How do you mount the pauldrons of a power armor (notice the bolts?) to the simplest merc armors? Not 100% sure, but I think DF only had reskins wrt color. MW added unique models but suffered "same mount and position". OB added unique designs that doesn't allow freely placed parts (see FO3 example and try to think like a modeler).

I'd rather have peacemeal armor.

Have a glass pauldron and leather and fur leggings with a bit of an orchish briast plate with a bone meal helm.
