Do you want to see various types of dragons?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:30 pm

Yes. I just hope they don't do anything like the D&D "colour coded morality" thing; red- and black-scaled of different sizes, with perhaps some unique designs for specific, important dragons, would be enough variation.

Having said that, I'd also love to see a model for Tosh Raka, the red- and orange-scaled tiger-dragon of Akavir (mentioned in http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-mysterious-akavir).

I would want Tosh Raka to be a Japanese Ryu dragon. Akavir has a lot of Japanese influence, supposedly. I think it would fit.

I tweeted Pete about it, got an extremely unsatisfying answer:

I call that very satisfying.

EDIT: Ohh, just quoted something from the second page, unaware that there were three pages. D'oh!

How's that satisfying?
"Are all the dragons different?"
"Every dragon is big and cool."

I really want to see some dragons that look more like prehistoric Pterodactyls instead of another generic fat flying lizard. Like Vermithrax Pejorative from the movie Dragonslayer or Smaug from The Hobbit.

These dragons had more of a beak instead of a stunted mouth like a Gecko.

See for yourself:

I think he may've been being a bit tongue-in-cheek there. Presumably he won't want to give out detailed information about the game in response to any question on Twitter.

Also: ice dragons (white/pale scales) would be nice as well.

"Vermithrax Pejorative from the movie Dragonslayer"

That was the most epic looking Dragon i`ve seen yet on the movie screen. I thought it looked brilliant..not bad for an `80`s Walt Disney film :D

So, why is always someone who votes the non-obvious option in these obviously obvious polls?

Vermithrax Pejorative from the movie Dragonslayer

Speaking of Dragonslayer, there really must be a quest like that in Skyrim, where some Nord warlord has persuaded a dragon to leave his territory be, as long as he keeps feeding it a pretty Nord lass every week or so.

I assumed there would be, from the GI article stating that there would be a variance in size and strength. Plus, pwning them allows you to absorb their power, and I reckon you need diversification if you want to achieve some level of Th'uum.

I'm talking a bit more than differences between only size and strength. I'm talking about how they are built. Like the difference between a wyvern and an amphiptere.

@DCDeacon Yes, but will they be unique, body wise? Or will they all be designed in that same wyvern style?

http://twitter.com/IHATETWlTTER/status/28464726572793858
@DCDeacon What I mean is will all dragons be similar in body to this: http://bit.ly/8GSdV6

http://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/28494753414778880
@IHATETWlTTER You'll have to wait and see the screens and decide for yourself.

Interpret this however you like, just always remember that "No comment" never ever means "yes" (or "no", for that matter, but people seem to have more problem thinking "no comment" means "yes").

I'd really love to see some serpentine water/swamp dragons of medium size in comparison with, but certainly in addition to, the uber-huge winged archetypal dragons.

There's a great Hellboy comic from years back where he fights such a beast... that would be cool.

OP must not have seen http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159301-dragons/ to discuss Dragons.

I think it's almost at post limit so when I remake it I'll add polls in...

The best answer to your question OP is... why not? And I think Bethesda is smart enough to make a lot of variations to Dragons, so they won't be boring and repetitive to fight.

Cool, chromatic dragons (red, blue, black, green, white etc.) and metallic dragons (gold, silver, copper, brass, etc.) would be really neat to see....oops wrong lore though... But still! :D Different types of dragons would be awesome.

Not only would I like to SEE different dragons, I want each Dragon to be different...have different powers, looks, goals, motivations, histories, just like other key NPCs.

I did, actually... However, not only is this thread is addressing something more specific than yours, there was no way I could have posed my queries within your thread that wouldn't have been a vain attempt to derail it.

I can't tell you WHO would, but I can think of a few reasons why someone might. For instance, having one, uniform style of dragon could create a recognizable icon for the series.

In there lore there are a few types of dragons, the primary two being Black and Red. I figure most of the dragons we'll see in Skyrim will be black as the teaser trailer and GI screenshot seems to confirm this. I figure they will reuse a model for most dragons (depending on how many there are) but Alduin/Akatosh will most likely be unique. In the lore where I have heard Akatosh described he is suppose to shine a gold color with golden scales. In the series called Prince Edward Akatosh explains that dragons lay on piles of gold and jewels to absorb the minerals into their scales and strengthen them. I assume their coloration is based on the types of minerals they absorb the most.

As for other types there are tiger-dragons in Akavar where the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Ka_Po%27_Tun race have learned to transform into dragons which means they are orange with tiger stripes. I doubt we'll see them in this game.

There is nothing in the lore for green, white, etc as far as I know.

I didn't mean different colors of dragons. I meant different types of dragons. Like European, Amphiptere, Wyvern, etc.

Well the visual style may be different based on the colors but I would assume most of them (except the Ka Po Tun) to have a European look. I will assume Skyrim's are all black dragons and look European and the red dragon in Redguard has a European dragon style as well. The dragon skeleton in Battlespire also looks like a pure European style dragon. If that helps.
