Do you want slavery in your Skirim?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:23 am

I think there may or may not be slaves since Alot of darkelves in skyrim were forced out of thier homeland. So I figure will some of them as well as some nords would run an Illegal slave trade?

Don't really care. If it fits in the world, then sure why not?

Yes, I want lots of slaves in skyrim, be them slave trade goods or war prisoners.

But of course no slave is ever complete without the option of:

Saving them
Using them
Killing them
Become a slave? (Quest :D)
Undercover mission as a slave

Can think of more...sad face.

I want slaves because I want to own mines and lands that have either or both crops/animals to farm, but I would be willing to pay for actual help to work lands and or mines, if that is how they would want to do it, if such a thing would be implemented again in this TES, I also want to be able to pay for guards for my stronghold/home and housekeepers, but only if the said generic help comes scripted to do these special duties, I would like to be unlimited in the amount of followers I could have, and I definitely do not want actual strong characters, with back stories to tag along with me.

I felt a little awkward picking "HELL YEAH!!!!11!!!!"

But it could be a very interesting aspect of the civil war. If so, it would be interesting if a particular quest line involves the PC becoming enslaved or escaping slavery.

I really don't care...I will if Beth make a slavery system that affects the economy of the game and so on, but I'm sure this is not going to happen, so...

For the sake of my evil/amoral characters, I choose yes if they fit in the story and hopefully serve some function.

For my good characters I would only want them if they could be freed.

Uh, In morrowind it fit the setting.

It will not fit the setting of Skyrim. Nords are an Idealistic Honourable race. Condemning someone to slavery would be dishonourable.

I think it most definitely would work and add extra content to it. I would love to free some slaves. Considering there is probably a civil war going on there might just be slavery or prisoners of war.. though... seeing as it is probably nord on nord there might not be very many prisoners of war LOL

Hell yeah, it just gives me an extra incentive to kill otherwise innocent NPCs...

Like the reason i killed Sister on Fallout 3.

It could be in skyrim, and might be. I only have one character that participates in slavery though, the rest kill slavers on site.

I think there's a good chance there will be NPC slavers and slaves though.

Do keep in mind that there are alot of dummner refugees in Skyrim and some of them might start some illegal slave trade.

Slavery was abolished in Morrowind at the time of the Oblivion Crisis. I imagine most of the Telvanni who resisted that are dead as well, being stubborn and refusing to be anywhere but Morrowind.

It might work in the Dunmer-held area near the border of Morrowind, but not really throughout the rest of Skyrim. Dunmer are known for keeping slaves; but they're one of the only races of Tamriel that do. Nords in particular are very honor-bound by their culture, and slavery just doesn't fit into their mindset. I wouldn't mind seeing it in and around the Dunmer settlement(s), but not anywhere else.

There's also what Velorien said above me. Not to mention the Dunmer have been nearly destroyed by several crises and an Argonian invasion. I doubt many of them will be well enough off to be worried about having slaves; most of them are probably impoverished and slaves were a symbol of wealth in their culture (and power amongst the Telvanni).

I agree with that. Maybey the nord should have POW's but slaves should only be found near the border of morrowind. Maybey have the empire side of the civil war to hunt slavers down since the empire hates slavery?

It should be outlawed in the game, but there should also be some sort of underground slave trade operated by the Dunmer. Adds lots of political interest,

Any province next to Morrowind should have a little bit of slavery in it.

Unless I'll have the option of breaking up the slave trade and freeing the slaves, I really don't care.

Looking at the timeline leading up to Skyrim, it would appear that what's left of Morrowind is ruled by argonians now, as Etherealshadow alluded. So the lore appropriate thing might be to have an argonian farmstead somewhere with dunmer slaves. I would be very amused.

Dunmer weren't the only race who kept slaves, historically. The bretons of High Rock are descendants of nord slaves to altmer and have a mixture of both bloods in their veins. It might be more correct to suggest that dunmer inherited their penchant for slavery from their chimer ancestors, and the chimer from their altmer cousins. Or maybe they had it at some points in their history and not others. Its not really clearly stated.

As for nords being honorable and idealistic, I don't think I've seen anything anywhere to suggest that nords are inherently more moral than other societies. The vibe off them is that they do prize individual freedom, but they also might value strength more highly, as in 'might makes right'. I agree that widespread ownership of personal slaves wouldn't fit my impression of nords, but Morrowind proved that the impression I got of dark elves in Arena and Daggerfall wasn't accurate either.

Its been 200 years since Oblivion, and imperial influence has waned considerably in the time since. Some nords may have picked up slavery during that time.

From what Todd has said though, there's supposed to be some cultural variety, so maybe one of the nord clans will be more okay with slavery than the others. Or perhaps the nature of the civil war in Skyrim has made some type of slavery necessary. Prisoners of war might be forced to mine metals (to make weapons and armor) for their enemies as a form of war reparations, and that could be considered a form of slavery. All of that would fit with my impression of nords fine.

I think slavery adds an interesting dimension to the moral choices of characters, and so in that sense I'm for its inclusion. But I wouldn't be heartbroken if it weren't in the game, either.

Yeah, the slave trade in Morrowind added a lot to the atmosphere imo. Not sure who would be enslaving who this time, but someone has to work those mines.
