Do you want something similar to fallout's V.A.T.S.

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 7:20 am

I just though this would be a cool addition to the game. I personally liked fallouts vats system so I was wondering who else would want it added. I personaly think it would be cool to see me ambush a huge polar bear and I see my arrow fly threw it's head and it falls down dead. Then maby I could take the cubs and sell them for a ton in a large city market.

it would be cool if when you staggered the oponent (with low health or low level) the game would enter a QUICK slow motion vats where you could target a location (like vats) on the enemy and attack for at location specific finishers.
Would be different for each weapon as well... cut off legs with a claymore, break them with a hammer, duel weild would stab/smash both knees at once....

So...Sweet...

EDIT:

Magic could detonate/shatter/melt enemies of low health/level.
Arrows would be like the bullet cam in fallout... But higher level marksmen could blow limbs/heads off like in princess mononoke.

The reason you have VATS in fallout is that as a vault dweller you have access to technology way beyond the average wastelander, your pip boy calculating bullet trajectories etc. In TES you get no such advantage

Yes. I liked Vats because it brought back some of the fun of the old turn-based, stat-based system that I used to love in older RPG's. Some of the details of the "better combat system" in the latest Game Informer article made me groan, like the emphasis on timing your shield to block, and finishing moves (a'la Mortal Combat). The next generation of RPG's are going to turn into something something like God of War.

No, this game doesn't need to be fallout: with swords.

Something like that might work if done carefully, but PLEASE GOD NO VATS!

Kicks back in easy chair with a bowl of popcorn.

This will be a fun thread to watch.

No thank you, no need for VATS in TES.

There is just no chance. They built an elaborate combat engine and we will use it. In real time.

The closest thing to VATS we will get is the possibility of those slowmotion camera angles during these so called "Finishing Moves"

Personally, I'd prefer the finishing moves to remain in 1st/3rd perspective but you never know, a dramatic camera angle while beheading a Dragon you just spent 10 minutes battling could be quite satisfying.

Yeah it's not really VATS. it's just choice in finishers and one hit kills on weak opponents.
You'd still have to wear them down in real time... Just gives you a choice/variation in finishers.

EDIT:

Also at high level of skills (swords rank 100 for example) you'd unlock an ultra finisher unique to each weapon.
For example you'd beat the guy down with your claymore, then trigger the unique finisher, you would make him get down on his knees
then choose when you cut his head off with a click of the mouse. Maybe even let him live ? NO !!!

Meh... it would get boring in a game like TES. Vats worked in fallout because it had guns and using it was actually rewarding.

No. I hated vats in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I never enjoyed using it and honestly never once did in New Vegas because they let me aim down my freaking sights!

No.

Not to pick on you but there are a lot of threads that seem to be making suggestions to make this series like every other. Do you want elderscrolls games to be like fallout or mass effect? Do you want TES to play like crysis, portal and mount and blade all combined? Let's keep the elderscrolls the elderscrolls. Try to come up with some new ideas instead of rehashing old (v.a.t.s idea from fallout 1) ideas.

The worst thing that is happening in gaming today on every platform (although the PC is a little more cutting edge in regards to game design risks) is the stagnation caused by copying proven design formulas. It may be cliche but I reference Call of Duty. It hasn't changed much since CoD 4.

I want to see new ideas and new design decisions being made!
