You want Spear?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:11 am

Well, if it's a petition to get BGS to add spears to the game, there's not much use for a 'Maybe' option. Or a 'No' option for that matter. Only tons of yes'.

I don't think it was launched as a debate of the pro's and con's of spears.

I would like it to be a petition honestly. If it was a petition then everyone who wants them to be in would put in a post saying they wanted it, including me.
And it would be a thread to catch BGS' attention and show them how many people want it. It would be a nice community effort towards the same goal. And the people who would post about it being a bad thing wouldn't be doing so in the right place.

That is what I want.

What I'm seeing here is a poll where people are getting bashed for their opinions.

I say we start a petition, it'll save a lot of headaches, useless debating, and bashing. And maybe we can achieve something as a community!

I just searched up hunting mammoth images and they all featured men with spears. Sounds like reason enough, besides the obvious combat addition, gameplay variation, and overall role playing addition.

I want a good variety of weapons and this extends to more than just spears.

Spears would be great to have in the game, even if I won't be using them :)

Well, it seems stupid to me to actively not want MORE options in a RPG, especially if the option that is being suggested would work perfectly with the setting of said RPG.

I just want as many options as reasonably possible, seeing as spears seem to be within reason, get 'em in there.

On the contrary this is precisely why these polls are a little short sighted. Everyone always wants more of everything, and obviously this just isnt practical. Because everyone always votes for more spears, more crossbows and more options, the polls are all meaningless.

Now, if there was a poll saying choose between Crossbows or Spears, then we'd be talking some interesting data.

Well, it seems just about every 9 out of 10 people want spears in Skyrim.

If Bethesda is all about appealing to the majority, then what is their excuse if they don't include spears? It can't be technological or any other, seeing as those didn't seem to be problems in Morrowind. And the making the skills only one-handed and two-handed now is only opening up even more compatibility for them.

All I know is that if there are not spears in Skyrim, Bethesda better come up with a damn good excuse as to why.

I reckon someone could make a poll demanding the inclusion of Bolas and youd get similar polling results. Given the choice between more and not more, people vote for more. Its got bugger all to do with spears.

Spears, ohh man I love them, more than any other weapon type, If they are indeed added in the game, I bet they have some pretty sick impaling finishing moves :D

Spears are in... NV Dead Money spears :shakehead:

As a spearman I want spears done right or not at all. If they aren't going to put the same effort into spears then the other weapons, best not to include them.

Oh. So that's why the topic is about spears and us wanting them to be included in Skyrim. Not to mention a majority of the posters and voters are veterans of Morrowind and want them for the sake of they were in before, but removed because of Oblivion's half assed skill system.

Or else there will be trouble, eh?

Did I say anything about trouble? No. It's not like I'm threatening to undermine Bethesda if they don't include them. I'm just saying they better have a good excuse as to why.

I voted yes because I'm interested in facing enemies who use spears. As for myself I've never liked using them personally.

All I can say is that we're fighting dragons. Now if I was fighting a dragon, what type of weapon would I want to use? Something long and pointy at the end? Yes!

Well to me it seems like a solo adventurer possibly couldn't choose a more impractical weapon.
I might not know a lot about weapons, but if a guy with a shield and axe comes charging at me a spear is the last weapon I'd want... Not to mention two or three guys. That happens a lot in TES after all...

Of course, spears do belong in any fantasy world, so they should be included.

Throw your spear at one and hack the other two with your short sword that any good adventurer keeps just in case

And don't forget about mounted enemies (which I'm assuming will be in the game as long as there are horses, since the removal of mounted combat in Oblivion seems as if it couldnt've possibly been for any reason other than time constraints)! In the middle ages, pikes and spears became the bane of knights, being able to deal with an armored horse before its rider could even get within attacking range of the infantry.

It only makes sense. There's seriously no logic behind not having spears in Skyrim.
