You want Spear?

If they're that worried about mechanics, why not just implement a simple weapons triangle? Like Sword trumps blunt, Spear trumps sword, and blunt breaks spear, as an elementary example

I want spears but not as much as I want Crossbows.

Of course, my liege.
Both Spears and crossbows are basic weapons that should be implemented. If they reeally want to cut back then I would grudgingly give up throwing knives, stars and darts, but any more than those and I would feel ripped off.

To simply answer the topic, I really don't care. If I want something that's a little ahead of me dead, I use the bow.

But seriously, while I hate realism in games, try runing around a bunch of pointy sticks, not that easy. But some arrows on your back and a bow in your hands, moving around gets easier.

Why doesn't somebody just tweet one of the higher-ups and see if the spear is, or can be implemented.

It's sad that this is even an issue, but thanks to Oblivion it is. A fantasy RPG consisting of medieval weapons, and there's a question whether to include the most widely used, basic weapon in human history?
Like I said, the very fact that we have to discuss this is pathetic. I want my damned Spear of Bitter Mercy back

I agree 100%. Hell swords in real life were expensive and not that common. Spears were much more cost effective to make, and were much more common. And you'd likely never see a Viking, or Saxon, or Roman, or Spartan, or Hopolite, etc without a spear of some kind.

the question should not be for spears as it would take an idiot to take them out of the game :brokencomputer: - but naginatas, glaives, halberds, 1 handed spears, the ability to throw the spears etc

we only need an animation for thrusting, 3 or four animations for slashing, an underarm animation, s horse animation, an overarm animation, a throwing animation and a few blocking ones

Honestly I wouldn't care if they used the staff animation for spears in oblivion.

Spears. SPEARS. They are one of the 4 universal tools of humanity: A knife, a spear, an axe/club, fire. And maybe a one handed spear and shield combo? Pretty please?

Spears, yes please.

Unless they are trying to create the Poverty Fantasy genre, why would there be no spears?

I want spears back. One-handed spears for use with a shield would be best, in my opinion. Throwing spears would be nice, as would two-handed spears and halberds.

I want polearms - spears, halberd, war hammer.

To clarify: historically, war hammer is a smaller hammer on a pole, not a giant anvil-sized hammer.

As much as I'd like to have spears in the game, it just doesn't seem to be enough skills left for us to use spears with. 18 skills remember? Still, I votes Yes. As in Yes.

That would only be a problem if they need to have spears as a seperate skill, and since as I understand it, they're now using two handed and one handed to divide between melee weapon skills and using perks to allow players to further specialize in specific weapon types, adding in spears shouldn't require more skills. They could just fall under two handed (Or one handed if one handed spears exist as well.) and have a spear perk in the game that does... I'm not sure what would be an appropriate bonus for a spear perk.

But yes, spears should be in the game. First, it really makes no sense not to have them in the setting, plus, having them would give players another option for combat, and aren't options something we want? Unfortunately, if they're not already in the game, I doubt posting here that we want them will change Bethesda's mind on the matter. Of course, I could be wrong here, and maybe even if we don't see them in Skyrim, we could get them in the next game, at least, though that will be a long time to wait.

Blunt weapons have good bashing ability, these are good for destroying a block, but inflict minimal damage against an opponent in armor and less than great damage against those who have none. They are slow, but nearly unstoppable weapons who do the least amount of damage per strike, but are also the cheapest to repair and buy.

Bladed weapons provide for a mix between the two, but is more effective against unarmed opponents due to the limited penetration offered by swords. They are a fast weapon that is versatile with good blend of all qualities. They are expensive weapons to maintain, and purchase.

Spears offer great speed, reach, and penetration but minimal effect against blocking and it's low durability leaves it in constant need of repairs. Spears are fast weapons with many attack options, but are useless against an expecting opponent who is capable of blocking them. They are cheap, but are easily damaged.

I think adding spears would offer a good rock paper scissors type feel, where spears beat armor, swords beat unarmored, and blunt beats blocking.

They're such a weird thing to have missing in a world. You couldn't use them as items in Daggerfall or Arena, but people still carried them. They are too obvious a good idea to ignore so often.

Please, please, include spears. And don't cop out and include 2 handed pike weapons only. There's no excuse for not having 1 handed spears as well.
