You want Spear?

Yes, I love spears. Polearms are among my favorite types of weapons.

spears were in FONV so they should be in skyrim

Completely different game company made FONV so I wouldn't call that as a reason they must be in Skyrim.

Spears or other polearms, pretty pretty please, with sugar spearheads on top.

Honestly, I don't much care about pure spears, the thing I want is long halberds! They are like spears but with an axe!

Well, spears will be fun too, and they would atleast provided the thrust animation for the halberd mod.

Blunt weapons have good bashing ability, these are good for destroying a block, but inflict minimal damage against an opponent in armor and less than great damage against those who have none. They are slow, but nearly unstoppable weapons who do the least amount of damage per strike, but are also the cheapest to repair and buy.

Bladed weapons provide for a mix between the two, but is more effective against unarmed opponents due to the limited penetration offered by swords. They are a fast weapon that is versatile with good blend of all qualities. They are expensive weapons to maintain, and purchase.

Spears offer great speed, reach, and penetration but minimal effect against blocking and it's low durability leaves it in constant need of repairs. Spears are fast weapons with many attack options, but are useless against an expecting opponent who is capable of blocking them. They are cheap, but are easily damaged.

I think adding spears would offer a good rock paper scissors type feel, where spears beat armor, swords beat unarmored, and blunt beats blocking.

you nailed it

athough if we are going by blade/blunt/pole skills then some items should be better against other stuff. for example axe is a blunt expert's sword )

I would like to see spears renovated with Skyrim's anims. It would feel really satisfying slowly pushing it through an enemy as a finishing move, then kicking him/it off the spear.

I'm guessing that the devs will hear us one day and put spears in the game.

Dont be so naive, it diddnt work with level scaling so why should it work here?

Unlike the absence of spears, every one of their games has had level scaling.

people forget that morrowind had level scaling... start a level one character and try to find a randomly golden saint in some ruins. it aint gonna happen. all you'll get is scamps. then again when your on level 20, you won't be fighting many scamps.

*sigh* yes, yes they did, however you know why level scaling diddnt ruin their older games? It is because they kept it away from the things that mattered, loot and dungeons (well at least the important ones) were not scaled down to your level, go to a daedric shrine at level 1 and you will get your [censored] handed to you by creatures far superior to you, powerful loot was still in certain locations and not scaled down no matter your level as well. You could still find powerful level dispite being a low level, the sword of white woe in the guard tower of Balmora did not disappear simply because the game did not think you were a high enough level to access it.

I don't know about loot, but it does seem like enemy strength in dungeons will be better scaled in Skyrim. Dungeons will have a designated level range, so you may still find yourself getting easily killed if you go to a dungeon whose denizens, even at the lowest end of their level range, are far stronger than you.

Also, as the Skyrim is "low fantasy", the polearms were commonly used in real history so they should also appear in Skyrim. They were cheap to make and easy to use for commoners.
But still, I understand that the combat engine could make implementing spears very hard so I understand that the devs skip that feature. Maybe in the next generation TES games.

not having a shield in games like this is like not having a bow and arrow in fallout.

The FIRST thing people are taught to make to survive is a crude blade, and you use that to make a bow because you usually can't hunt well with a sharp rock.

Same thing with this, spears are crucial for the time period...

i hope that spears become versatile enough to become their own skill. nobody picked them in morrowind because it was simply pokepokepokepokepokepokepoke. i also want weapon skills to be marksman, pole, hand to hand, blunt, blade, shortblade

to add versatility

basic spears- poke,- good defensive weapon. despite being two handed, it should work with magic and horses

light spear- poke, throw, one handed (meaning we can have a shield/spell)

glaive and halberd- 2h (spear with a long blade that can be used for slashing) two handed, slashing. perhaps the difference between halberds and glaives could be that halberds are better against armoured opponents

naginata- 2h like how katanas are better but more expensive than long swords, naginatas should be better versions of glaives- but scales more with skill (by scaling more, i mean at level 10 pole glaives are far Superior to naginatas, but at level 90 naginatas are far supperior to glaves)

javaline (or however it is spelled)- 1h spear that can be used weakly for stabing, but can be thrown

On top of spears, short spears, halberds... I'd also like to see a staff. How can you play a monk without a bo staff?

Dark Messiah was not a great game, but it had great combat before it got boring... one thing it did well was giving casters a staff to use.

Where did you hear this? Or is it merely wishful thinking on your part? It depends on how much the strength of an enemy varied depending on your level, if loot is mostly static with certain items of a certain strength appearing in certain places no matter what level you are and enemies were set not to drop below a certain level (at level 1 finding a dungeon with enemies that cant drop below level 15 and higher level dungeons with enemies that cant drop below level 40 and whatnot) I would be happy however you will forgive me if I am a little skeptical.

I do share your view here on versatility, but... nobody picked spears in Morrowind, really? Heck, all the folks that I know and their mother who played the game seemed more than eager to use it all the time. You see: *poke* -running backwards- *pokitty poke*. It was pretty broken, tbh.

btw I do support the inclusion of polearms in Skyrim, just for the record. But a better implementation than how it was is mandatory.

First we want spears, now we want 5 different classes of spears. AND the ability to poke, block, and throw with the same item (i think that could be done though if they make it so the only way you can do it is if you are running forward and holding the trigger you throw the javelin, kinda like how you're supposed to throw it.)

I would personally love to see spears added again.

They seem to fit with the rustic nomadic nature of Skyrim itself, and I would be happy to see them make a return.
