Do you want TES V in three parts?

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 2:14 pm

No, that is not right. When I buy TES V, I want to buy TES V, not 1/3 of the map.

I think that Robynah's account has been hacked by a troll.

I have to agree, that was my first thought on reading the post!

No, no, and a thousand times no!

First, the staple of the Elder Scrolls is to do what you want, when you want. This was shirked off by the introduction to DLC from Beth, but overall it wasn't an overall requirement to enjoying the game entirely. Expansions are okay, but if I can't do the Main Quest without having to buy something above and beyond the game, they have lost me as a consumer, no matter how compelling the cliffhangers were.

Second, I don't see the point of releasing one-third of a game. It's barely worked for Valve and HL2 Episodes, and a freeform game will be damaged by it.

I hate how things is done in lets say fable or Fallout, it's either evil og good, balck or white. Some middleground would bee nice.

Because splitting it up to "part" is rather lacking in parts that I do NOT have 100% material right away. It might work for a linear style RPG, but, TES ain't that kind of game.

My thoughts exactly. As for DLC, I wouldn't mind doing away with it entirely if Bethesda leveraged some decent expansions as they did with Morrowind. Most fan-made content for Morrowind/Oblivion greatly surpasses the quality of Bethesda's shoddy DLC, and it's free. I'd rather they divert their budget and resources towards making a wholesome, solid game and a worthy expansion or two...

Why would you want it to be in parts? I'm serious, I don't understand how the benefits would outweigh the drawbacks.

Uh, I dont think the main story of Oblivion was worth splitting it up at all.

But I would certainly not oppose it if Bethesda would change their strategy of releasing a main game then release addons with completely separate quests. Instead one could have something like:

TES V.1 - first part plays in country A
TES V.2 - second part playing in country B
TES V.3 - third part playing in country C

Where part 1 to 3 dont change in technology (much), but each time we get a full country (Oblivion sized) and you can level up higher. Also, it would each have a full featured main story, but they would be linked to each other.

In principle how Baldurs Gate was planned to be a triology.

They would have to rework their rulesystem, tough. The current rulesystem isnt designed to allow limiting the players power at all. One simple idea would be to have the limits for level, skills, stats at 100 for the first game, at 200 for the second game, and at 300 for the last game.

And they would have to have a way to "end" each game and continue further into the next game.

I would not like it at all. Artificial plot splits would ruin immersion.
Considering that priced DLCs appear to be coming the norm, studios can make more money from the game from those gamers who like the game and are willing to pay more for more additional content.
To try and wring more money out of gamers just to complete the existing game would be kind of slimy.

No thanks. The idea of a "limitless" world isn't quite the same when you need to wait for the second part to be released before you progress any further.

TES games are sandbox games. You can't split a sandbox into three episodes. That format works fine for a linear story but it would make no sense for TES.

Wouldn't it be great if TES V was split into three seperate games with the plot only being wrapped up in the final (third) release?

The first two parts could end on cliffhangers (or just stop) with the level capped until the next game.

Taking Oblivion's story as an example (spoilers):

game one could end with Martin telling you to bring him a Daedric artifact (there wouldn't be any Daedric quests in game one, that's too much content for one game),

game two would halt after the battle of Bruma,

and game three would finally see Mehrunes Dagon banished.

We could have a lot more DLCs too if TES V was split up into three seperate games like this.

Bethesda could release the main games a year apart and since you can't progress with the main story or upgrade your character, there'd be more room for DLCs for all kinds of things (new armour and weapons etc) to keep you busy. It could kind of be hinted (with deep lore) that you need DLC items to get the best experience out of the next game and have them linked to on-line acheivements.

NO...NO NO NO. this is a great way to make a user pay for the same game 3 times...when I buy a game I expect it to be complete and satisfying I dont remember ever asking anyone for a game that the only way I could finish was by buying more games...

This would be most displeasing, to say the least. Usually splitting games like this is just another obvious grab for money.

I hope this game does not end up in 3 separate games. I would be perfectly fine if it were 3 separate discs full of wonderful content exploring many continents of the game possibly but not 3 different releases where the game engine differs fromt he previous like what happened with Half life 2.

I also hope this game doesnt end up like Starcraft where they literally do it all within 1-3 months for 3 campaigns 3 separate purchases. That would ruin it for me.

In the uk that could cost 150 pounds, if they go for their prefered 50 pounds for top releases so i am unsure about having the game split.
