Do you want a voiced character?

Let me guess... it's been halved?

i just do not like the idea being forced to play a character you did not create yourself

it is one of the reasons i do not play games like mass effect the witcher and others , i can not immerse myself into a character that sound likea stereotypical dumbasses or worse character like snake , if hee ever came near one of my kids i would call the police

even knowing that these games are great , i never got into them becauseof this

I'm on the fence with this one. To be honest I can understand why people are so upset but on the other hand it's always good to try new things. The problem comes in limiting characters if they go with the boring generic American voice. (you cant play an old guy) But maybe they're going to give us a fixed character this time so they could give him/her a voice. It'll be interesting to see which way they go with this one.

especially when these voiced protagonist sound like a [censored] douchbag phsycopats llike most of them sound or are

it kills ipart of the immersion and imagination , and that is just as important to me as content and gameplay

I prefer it, because generally it allows the developer (or DM/GM) to better integrate the character with the environment and the campaign narrative. You can get personal commentary, and not just casual banter in the streets.

The voice work ~if bad, can ruin the experience, but if passable, then ~it's passable IMO; if grand, then it really improves the experience ~unless (and perhaps commonly), it limits the extent of the available dialog and quest content [cost savings], for being fully voiced. :(

If cRPGs become capable of interpreting a user created character biography ~then it's a game-changer. Only then will the PC interactions come close to an author designed /or influenced PC. Arcanum made strides in this area, when they allowed for player selected traits and [loose] backgrounds. Future TES games could do the same; if they did, it would be a grand step up IMO.

Yes, I'd like the protagonist to have a voice instead of being silent.

Absolutely not.

The reason for the story options and speech being so fun in DA Origins was the silent protagonist, allowing for us to choose from lots and lots of different speech options that reflect the type of character we want to play. The voiced- protagonist in DA Inquisition took that possibility away, simplifying speech into a tool to determine which route you will take in the game, while dumbing-down the personality system to a sentimental/aggressive/humorous trio to pick from.

Skyrim (even if didn't include a voiced protagonist) was likewise when compared to the Fallout games that came before it, speech was only a means to progress the story by asking questions about the quests, locations etc and there was no chatting element in it.

My fear is that they will go the Skyrim route with speech and with the (possible) addition of a voiced protagonist, FO speech will be simplified to a an extent where it will lose its magic.

I sure hope that won't be the case.

I'd like to choose both, because it'd be most logical. Some people would prefer it on, some off. It'd be simple to add to options menu.

Except that a choice of both IS the choice of fully voiced ~and with all the bad side effects to the game that come with it; even if the voice is muted by the player.

No. Would much prefer the character isn't voiced. Not to mention if the fellow doing the voice is Troy Baker, I'll spend the majority of dialogues wishing for him to shut up.

No, unless we play as the dog.

Really, it depends on so many things though. I've played 2 games with voiced protagonists that I liked: Tomb Raider 2013 and Uncharted. Granted these were action games. I have not liked any of the RPGS that I've played that had voiced protagonists. These include Mass Effect (never finished), Dragon Age 2 (only played the demo), and Dragon Age: Inquisition (currently trying to play this on the 360 and omg does it svck). They might be terrific, but I've not played the Witcher series (only a little of the first one) because I did not care for Geralt's personality or the voice.

I don't like a voiced protagonist because:

1) It puts you into third person

2) makes my character feel like their being interrogated

3) I much prefer hearing my own voice in my head while reading the lines

edit: Forgot to add that I liked and played Bioshock: Infinite but that's more action/FPS.

Able to yes, however it might have consequences like not being able to play female.

It might also sound plain stupid if your age and character type don't match the voice at all. or the voice is messed up, say you sound angry then you are ice cold.

Pretty stupid to compare this to movies who is an totally different media

Note that Bethesda will get an way larger challenge then they tries to make TES6 voiced and they have 10 races most are non human.

I'm in the pitchfork contingent. No voiced protag, ever.

Third person protagonist is an entirely different design philosophy than first person, and Bethesda should stick to what they do best.

nothing has been confirmed

and to be honest i do not think we will have a voived protagonist

my reasoning , look at all the previous bethesda games forums both ES and fallout

each time the questioned was asked about voivced character the no vote won each time overwhelmong

and giving us a voiced character , just isn't something bethesda like

so the voice we hear in the trailer aez just for the trailer i hope

I don′t think the voice was just for the trailer though. I get the impression it was done to pull attention to it. The char in the trailer could have just pet the dog and have been on his way, instead he spoke.

I really like the idea that my character will finally have a voice and no longer be mute. Bioware is doing it so well, then again, they are also doing companions and relationships very well... Bethesda not so much. Marriage and Companions in Skyrim where rather atrocious. I mean, they tried, but there was no deep connection and it got old really fast. So, if they DO a voiced PC, then let's hope they really do it well, otherwise, I rather have a mute again. :)

For me a voiced protagonist is a huge deal breaker in every game. God, imagine Kotor with a voiced protagonist, like the ones with the annoying fake British accents.

In a Bethesda game a voiced protagonist is a very bad idea because then you don't have the freedom to imagine what kind of person your character is. You are forced to be Chad McCoolGuy who saves the day and [censored]s bad [censored]es.

I'm still hoping the voice was that of a telepathic or android dog and not the protagonist. Reaching, I know, but I would rather have something silly like that than a voiced protagonist.

Silent Protagonist will always be better then a voiced Protagonist for a non preset character. Still a terrible idea to use voice, you will always lose dialoge options, happens every time and it will be the case for Fallout 4 if this is true.

I think a voiced player character would take me out of the experience, personally. For one I keep thinking about a new game after you finish, you make a completely different looking character, but they still have the same droning voice.

no it is not n,ot only did what we heared sound like another rmpty headed high on testeron idiot , what about non english speakers who not going to get a version in their language

it partly kills the immersion and imagination for many many players and limits dialogue options especially for pc users and modders in the future

be honest that voice sopunded like a redneck on steroids so stereotypical

One problem, sure there would be many, is some people would be very specific on how they want their character to sound. A default voice may not be what they are looking for.

If it must be voiced, have the option to turn it off and be a silent character like in the previous games.
