Do you want your characters apperance to change depending on

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:37 pm

Sorry to spoil the fun, but overweightness can largely be attributed to the massive surplus of processed fatty and high-sugar foods that are crapped out of factories, and the fact that you barely need to move in your life.

If your diet consists largely of venison, corn and potatoes and you labor at a sawmill you're going to be pretty lean and muscular most of your life, regardless of how much you eat.

If you want to be fat, do it through character creation (assuming there's a feature for that)

Yes to the hairstyles and Tattoo's/warpaint, I'd really like to be able not only to change hose, but to find new ones throughout my travels that aren't available at character selection. So when you travel to a distant town you might find hairstyles/tattoo's there that aren't available in another town.

As far as scarring goes, ONLY if you can remove it. I hated it in Fable I because if you got hit you could sometimes end up with scars that would come off looking "bad" (as in not cool). Where you looked like you got beat with an ugly stick. The only scars that looke dgood were the Claw marks you could get ony our chest and the classic eye scar It'd be nice if they did have a scarring system that it was developed so that it was both rare, and the scars you "could" get were monster/weapon specific and your character couldn't get too many of them.

As far as body changing, nope. I don't likle this, mainly because it takes control and variety away from the playler. I want to play a swordsman, I want to look muscular but not too huge (like AHNULLLLD) but most games think anyone with high strength shoud looklike a body builder.

To me, aging and scars are the equivalent of the game saying:
"Hey that's a nice character you've spent almost an hour creating. Your creativity really shows. That being said, I hope you don't get hit by a monster or a falling tree, wouldn't want an ugly scar down that radiant face. You better have that caps lock on as well, or I'll turn your Fabio Nord into John McCain!!".

I put a put a lot of thought into creating my characters. I wouldn't want the game to take some of those choices away from me.

Do you want to be able to change hairstyles during gameplay with the use of barbers and such, rather than being stuck with the same hairstyle from the character creation screen? Couldn't care less but it sounds cool enough. I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Do you want tattoos/warpaint to be availiable through a tattooist through taverns in the cities? No they scare me. It would be cool with war paint but tattoos? you don't just change your tattoos whenever you feel like it.

Do you Want your characters body build to change depending on your activities... for example if you eat too much he/she will get fat or if you walk everywhere carrying heavy armour your muscles will grow etc? No. Sounds too Fable-ish for me.

Do you want your character to get scarring from battles? Hell No. Every time my character got a scar i would need to reload. It would be a nightmare.

Would you like to see aging in the game, for example a month in game could equate to 1 year in terms of character aging Hell No. If they did that the first thing i would do was to find a mod which removed it. This idea is so bad that it's only surpassed by the strange idea that your characters apearance somehow change when you do good or bad deeds like in Fable and Mass Effect.

No, this isn't Fable.

If they do insist on adding something like battlescars, there should be a spell or a potion that gets rid of them for people who don't want their character all scarred up. Personally though, I think it would be better if they just added scars as an option when you first create your character.

No to the OP. If I want my character to look the way they do, I want her to stay that way. I am not going to let the game ruin her appearance after I spent an hour perfecting it.

Hairstyle, tattoos/warpaint and scars(provided they're restorable) are an okay.

But not body types. If there was a way to change body types it should be implemented in a way that makes sense but also means that you choose that body type.

And aging?

Maybe there could be an option for aging but it would be unfair to impose that on anybody.

All of these would be fine as long as the last two were optional and the scars could be removed.

But as much as people argue "I spent hours on my character and I don't want them to change", where's the problem if it is a decidedly optional feature? I spend hours on my characters too and I always end up finding cause to go back and change them. For the most part this would be a godsend. If only there was a lore-friendly explanation for the ability to change facial features, you know, for those little nuances you didn't quite notice in the terrible lighting conditions, such as: oh, I had no idea my character was luminescent; where did that purple smudge come from? why is their neck a very different colour from their body?

If Skyrim has a better character creation tool and better lighting then maybe this wouldn't be a problem to me, but the first two are fine. They make sense, there were barbers back then, and tattooists. Scars would be fine as long as they were removable. Changing body types could be implemented without making it a Sim-feature, and aging would have to either not be included or be optional.

This idea is so bad that it's only surpassed by the strange idea that your characters apearance somehow change when you do good or bad deeds like in Fable and Mass Effect.

Only happens in ME2 and at that, it's optional.

If your diet consists largely of venison, corn and potatoes and you labor at a sawmill you're going to be pretty lean and muscular most of your life, regardless of how much you eat.

I think you'll find that the key clause there has been emboldened. If you're a wealthy landlord who earns money for telling other people to do all that labour, you're still getting the same diet, just no exercise. That said, for the most part, you are correct. Characters like the player are hardly going to put on weight with the lifestyle they have.

The first two are okay, the rest not so much. This isn't Fable.

I know but still, it's a terrible terrible feature. You can't just judge peoples morality based on their looks, it dosn't make sense. Mass Effect 2 is an advlt epic space opera TPS/RPG and not a Disney movie... and even if it was i don't think its a very good thing to learn children.

Biased much?
No I don't want my character changing appearance by what I do. In theory it'd be interesting, but as we've seen in fable it is often not done well, and I don't think it's possible to do it well.

Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes, only if they're temporary.
No, it would feel like there is a time limit to the game.

I for one would like to see the body change according to your character's activities/ habits. Although I imagine a lot of people won't like that feature. Apparently a lot of people complained when they added that kind of feature to GTA: San Andreas and removed in in GTA IV.
I voted no on the last one 'cause I for one didn't like the vampire face aging glitch in Oblivion. Especially after spending so much time trying to get it right during character creation.

the only things i voted against were aging and tattoos. aging simply because some races live several hundred years if not thousands like davyth fyr. HELL NO! to tattoos cause im scared of needles, and getting a tattoo is getting poked by a needle millions of times. :shakehead:

I'm all for changing appearance throughout the game so long as I have control over it. Changing hair, adding tattoos, etc is fine but no automatically getting scars, fat/muscular, etc without my direct input.

1) I personally feel that character develpoment should continue throughout the game, I was annoyed that in Oblivion you were stuck witht the same hairstyle that you choose from the beginning of the game all the way through, there should be ways of changing customizable options like this.

2) Tattoos and/or warpaint is another thing that should be included this time round but rather than choosing one only to find you are bored of it you should have the ability to change it, any tattoo tavern in the game should have the ability to use a basic restoration spell to remove any tatoo you wish and replace it with another. multiple tattoos as well on all parts of the body, not just on your face like in Dragon Age

3) I would also like the ability to change your physical apperance based on how you act. I was pretty bored seeing all the characters in Oblivion have exactly the same body build apart from hight, some people should be fat, some should be thin or musculer etc... and your actions should have an effect on your physical outcome.

4) I am unsure about scarring, it would be cool to select which scars you want during your initial character creation but would it work in the game setting during battles. As i said I am unsure so I thought I would just put the possibilities out there for discussion.

5) I personally don't like the idea of aging due to the fact it would make you feel under pressure due to getting older and everyone who ages has to die sometime and I hate time limits in games, but again I thought I would ask for other peoples opinions as to how many people think it would be a good idea

I am aware that some of these ideas have been used in fable and badly, but that doesn't mean that they can't be made to work providing you have got a proper game company developing it

I have mixed feelings about this.
Obvious yes to blood splatters, scars and wardrobe/equipment changes.
The barber thingy is a meaningless quark to me, but it's not offensive.
