Do you want your characters apperance to change depending on

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:36 pm

1) I personally feel that character develpoment should continue throughout the game, I was annoyed that in Oblivion you were stuck witht the same hairstyle that you choose from the beginning of the game all the way through, there should be ways of changing customizable options like this.

2) Tattoos and/or warpaint is another thing that should be included this time round but rather than choosing one only to find you are bored of it you should have the ability to change it, any tattoo tavern in the game should have the ability to use a basic restoration spell to remove any tatoo you wish and replace it with another. multiple tattoos as well on all parts of the body, not just on your face like in Dragon Age

3) I would also like the ability to change your physical apperance based on how you act. I was pretty bored seeing all the characters in Oblivion have exactly the same body build apart from hight, some people should be fat, some should be thin or musculer etc... and your actions should have an effect on your physical outcome.

4) I am unsure about scarring, it would be cool to select which scars you want during your initial character creation but would it work in the game setting during battles. As i said I am unsure so I thought I would just put the possibilities out there for discussion.

5) I personally don't like the idea of aging due to the fact it would make you feel under pressure due to getting older and everyone who ages has to die sometime and I hate time limits in games, but again I thought I would ask for other peoples opinions as to how many people think it would be a good idea

I am aware that some of these ideas have been used in fable and badly, but that doesn't mean that they can't be made to work providing you have got a proper game company developing it

Biased much?
No I don't want my character changing appearance by what I do. In theory it'd be interesting, but as we've seen in fable it is often not done well, and I don't think it's possible to do it well.

The last three questions in that poll need a "Hell no" option.

Ty, you might want to mention there being a tattooist, like you mentioned the barber, because I don't want to be tattooed accidentally during battle.:P

just in time to vote Hell no in those three then. Tatoos, yes, I would never use them, but anyone else wants them, good addition. Hairstylists, Hell yes.

I voted yes to everything pretty much. Ialthough if we had all of those this would pretty much just be Fable in a different setting. ;p
I stipulated I think scarring would be great but there should be a minor spell the sole purpose of which is to remove scars. I wouldn't mind an age counter, but I'd like it to be "real time" as far as game time is concerned. There's not much point in making "month equal a year" when the game pointedly informs you of the day month and year already. ;p Now, as much as I'd love these to be in the game they probably won't be, simply because history so far has anything that's tried winding up being wildly mediocre. We might see one or two of them, probably barbershops since Fallout had a few characters capable of changing your hairstyle.

Only if it can be done well and without too much effort removed from development.

You also negate that Magicka has an effect as well. A master of Necromancy would appear very pale and unnatural, their skin rotting and their eyes bloodshot at the very least.

A master of Restoration would radiate an aura of his own spirit as a mark of his triumph over the energies of the human body.

I've always wanted to change something on my character mid game. Having the option would be great.

They already said in an interview that tats and scars are in, but I assume they meant only at Character Creation. Adding them later also would be good.

In other words.... not. :)

TES is all about being who you want to be. I don't want to be a fat, old, scar-ridden person.

The past two games also took place during the course of a single year, and I expect Skyrim to follow suit, so I don't think aging should ever come into play. That would just be silly. I don't want battle-scars. Combat is a huge part of TES, especially Skyrim, and I don't want to get scarred every fight and be a hideously disfigured thing. Some people want to make attractive characters.

When I edit my character's appearance during character creation, that means I WANT MY CHARACTER TO LOOK LIKE THAT. Don't change it on me.

I'd be okay with barbers and things like that though so that we can change hair whenever we want.

Changing hairstyles sure, and warpaint would make sense for some people to use. Some of the default faces had warpaint in Morrowind, so it would be nice to have warpaint to add or remove in game. To everything else I said no. Scarring would only make sense if you could get burn marks and other realistic things, if the combat is very realistic, and I don't think it will be that realistic. Aging would have to be different depending on your race, and I don't see the point of it. I don't want eating or carrying heavy weight to affect how you look because it would have to be done very realistically to work right, and it's not that kind of game. It would need to have very realistic body simulation. I like choosing how I look as I play.

Changing hairstyle, beard and warpaint would be great! Especially warpaint. I don't want body changing except for scars, wich I don't care about. Aging sounds ridiculous to me.

where is the no option? because I would like to change physical appearance, but I don't want the appearance to be random or even any bit out of my control in any way. when something changes about my character I want it to be because I diliberatly chose to change it.

Barbers hell yes, I got tired of looking at the same haircut on my character through the course of Oblvion. Maybe even some kind of "Magical Plastic Surgeon" In case I find that I don't like the way my character looks when I get into different lighting or what not.

Haircuts? Yes.
Tattoos? I dont care since I would get any tattoo I want during character creation (and Its not realistic to remove them). But I guess adding more if you dont have any is Ok.
Scarring? No. You can choose scars at creation, but I think it should end there.
Changing body types? Hell no. Even though I'm sure Bethesda would do a better job then Fable, I still dont want it.
Aging? Hell no! Even though in game time moves faster than real life, I doubt many people would have characters that age more than 5 years (unless rest is exploited like crazy). The game doesnt move time fast enough for it to age your character. Fable did a horrible job at this as well.
