Do you wear apparel for style or substance?

I try to find a mix of both. Decent damage qualities, but at the same time I like the way it looks. If I find something that maybe has just a little bit better damage quality but I don't like the way it looks I will settle for something lesser but looks good.

Is it so much to ask for both?

After found out the ballistic weave, ignored everything else but my finest suit with ballistic mk5 and my loyal 10mm pistol with 2 projectiles attachment.

You may call me Bauer. Jack Bauer.

EDIT: IF someone dont know whats ballistic. It increases different cloth items armours to ridicilous high. Imagine you are fully naked. Put your best armours with legs and stuff to you and lets say your armour lis like 200.

Now imagine you have only your vaultsuit or military one i prefer and newsboy cap. Theyr armour is like 0. But when you add ballistic weave mk 5 to both of them theyr armour is total like 200-300. Now add your favourite legs and hand pieces and super mutants just tickle you

This is why I wear Sleek Shadowed leather legs, Stabilized shadow leather arms (legendaries if able, like protector armguards etc) and then just keep a suit of heavy polymer combat armor with the mods on it I like, then just adjust the armor values of the shadow leather I'm wearing to match it. Yeah it's cheating/modifying from the intended whatever you want to call it (I fully acknowledge this) but I'm sorry.. I dislike white combat armor, I don't like the extra thick bulky looks that seem to be all the rage in any game these days. I just don't like chunky blocky looks.

So this way I'm able to be 'stylish' with my preferred level of protection (without it being just a truly hacked stat) then again, I always play sneaky sniper/cat burglar types and those just don't survive well unless you chunk up for the end game

(leave power armor alone, that doesn't need hax, it's fun and fine as is)

As with all RPGs I play I always wear what I think my character would wear... I try and not to pick up to much clothing/armour as I don't like the idea that one size fits all... I'm not that far into the game but for the first 25hours or so he wore the Vault Suit with some leather add-ons...

Style. Kellog outfit looks great but doesn't offer much protection late game. Why it can't be upgraded like everything else is stupid but that's a rant for another time.

I prefer style, as limited by game issues (like, I only had lv1 armorer for a long time, so I couldn't tweak armor bits for appearance. But I kept wearing the vault suit & didn't use certain layered bits because they're ugly.)

....reminds me of how disappointed I was in FO:NV, when I finally had to leave my Reinforced Leather behind, because it was just too weak. :(

But now that I learned about/got ballistic weave, my character's running around in a Laundered Denim Dress & the Militia hat. With a hunting rifle or shotgun, she looks like she should be Rancher Woman, standing on a porch in the Old West, facing off against some bandits. :P

edit: rank 3 weave, I think. So 65 armor.

I wear a tux most of the time, so I look good in all of the VATS killshot scenes, if things get tough, I put on my clashing battered fedora, keeps things lightweight for one, and I generally don't need the extra armor I'd get from going with my military fatigues, armor and hat combo, let alone power armor. Ballistic weave is a game changer really, though a bit random as far as what it can and can't be applied too.

It's always about the fashion. Luckily though, I am quite fond of the leather armor's appearance (at least the sturdy version). Modify it to be all shadowed with the road leathers, and I look both smashing and well protected.

Either/or ... depending on the situation. I tend to dress for style in town, but when heading out into the wasteland it's full heavy combat armor or power armor. However, I did shadow the combat armor because it looks better, and I use the red flames paint on my power armor for style if that counts.

Style first, Stats might determine what I wear if I like two looks.

Current Game

Level: 31

SPECIAL: 1 5 1 6 6 5 7

Difficulty: Survival

Wearing: Form fitting Vault suit & leather armor, not an armorsmith so just whatever I find.

I also rarely modify weapons with extended clips cuz I don't like the look. This character uses a sniper rifle with 5 rounds & a revolver that holds 6.

Battered fedora and Magnolia's red dress is all that I need.

Although with a mod armored officers BoS and shadowed combat armor looks pretty dang hep...topped off with a battered fedora of course.

(Ya, I play survival as well but I blitz and stab things. Stuff dies well before they see the sequined red dress. Go figure.)

Always style, even though it makes the game very difficult on Survival with 1 Endurance. Colonial Duster doesn't protect for [censored].

Function. I want to look cool (probably not possible in real life) but I'm really not a GOOD enough gamer to keep from getting shot a lot so I need the protection. Don't have access to ballistic weave yet.

Style, current character rocks McCreadys duster and a newsboy hat, luckily both can use ballistic weave.

I pay no attention to gear stats in Bethesda's games. My characters equip whatever they like.

Looking good...

You reach a point where most enemies die very very soon after seeing you, so a bit of dodge and weave combined with several bullets to the face supports a great looking ensemble.

the bulky armors look like trash imo. and not being able to put ballistic weave on BOS uniforms just seems like a complete waste. I'd love to run BOS officer uniform with shadowed sturdy combat armor but it doesn't hold up ratings wise.

Style. I wear leather armor a lot, and then synth armor. Sometimes combat, I completely avoid raider and metal.

Style. I wear combat armor briast and arms because it looks like a decent rifle bullet resistant hard plate armor. My clothes are the simple harness (modded without straps) or, because I like shorts, the SummerShorts, which I textured to look like camo (although they look much too feminine on a guy, especially the shoes. I would prefer longer shorts and sneakers.) To use clothes together with the armor I use the More Armor Slots mod. I also wear a kevlar army helmet which fits perfectly with the combat armor.

Style, this is why it svcks Ballistic Weave is tied to factions. I like wearing suspender clothing and Silver Shroud costume. It just looks cool, and I refuse to use Power Armor.

Substance. In TES I favor style, but in Fallout 4 I don't like the apparel in general so I go for efficiency.
