so if you were fighting an airborn creature...

So your saying the only proper way to fight a dragon is with a spear. Right... right....

How about you run to an area where he can't fly and use some good old tactics? Or why don't you pick up a bow and start shooting away... Hmmmm no?
Ok learn some arcane and start blasting him with magical bolts of sit down.

Honestly though I think Skyrim is going to be such a diffrent game (better) that when it comes out and we compare it with past TES games it's pretty much going to be on a whole nother level. I mean they have a new ENGINE this should tell you alot right there.. Multiple dragons on 1 screen?? That right there says We can probably see small armies of NPCs going against each other.

So if you were fighting an airborn creature... logically you would use an ANTI-AIR MISSILES

I can't believe that people still nag about spears... It's just a pointy stick that you throw.

Ice or Electric spell......."It's Super Effective!"

You forgot Rock though. Stone Edge FTW!

edit: whoops, didn't read the "spell" part of the sentence. Well I guess a meager Power Gem or a Hidden Power: Rock might get the job done.

Actually, fighting a flying creature, I think I'd rather go with a bow or some other means of ranged attack, because then you can attack it while flying, with a spear, you can only hit it when it comes down to attack you, at which point, you'd be put at risk yourself.

Of course, flying up to where it is myself also works [hint]levitation[/hint].

But it's not like it matters, if we're not getting spears, we're not getting spears, complaining about how illogical it is not to have them isn't going to change that. To be fair, you might argue that it would convince Bethesda to add them to an expansion or a future game, or maybe even to Skyrim, but I doubt the last one will happen. If they can't get them done satisfactorily for Skyrim, then they won't be added, that's what Todd said in the pod cast, and complaining about their absence isn't going to make them magically get done in a way Bethesda feels is worth including in the game.

Well he said we weren't getting spears "in the classical sense". so i think he's implying that we're getting some pole-arm, but like so many others i might just be too optimistic.

Haha. Immersion.

Don't care about spears. Nor did anyone else, when they were there. People only cared and pretended to have used them once they were gone.

and what about common folk who do not have spells or dragon shouts, how will they defend against Dragon attacks? or will they just :ahhh: and get :flamed: until we come? another aspect og the game waiting for you to save the day? hope not.

The same thing non-adventurer types did in both Morrowind and Oblivion. End up dead, most times. And that was fighting *anything*, forget about dragons. That one really annoying traveling npc who threatened to kill you any time you passed near him? If I didn't snipe him to play the DB, I usually found him dead from bandit, wolf, bear, Will-o-the-Wisp, imps, or trolls standing over the body. Forget about the stronger enemies. "Normal" npcs are extremely squishy.

one thing i dont get is... why do they leave spears out... and leave both axes and hammers in?

i mean, axes and hammers were basically the same weapons with different looks, even more so in oblivion...

because, afterall... axes are a BLUNT weapon!

well, whatever... im just gonna be using a claymore most likely, anyway.

hopefully they have some badass looking claymores.

When fighting a huge fire spitting dragon you logically run away.

I really don't understand the complaint. Spears weren't in Oblivion either, and they were a pretty forgettable weapon type to a lot of people in Morrowind. Get over it, there are plenty of better things to use.

Well we al know how http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPntwvkoH7I guy gets along with just a sword- even though he doesn't remember to trap the dragons soul at the end. My point = proven.

On the other hand, http://i.blogs.indiewire.com/images/blogs/spout/archives/dragonslayer.jpg guy was just fine with a spear.
Of course, his spear could even cut through iron and he had magikhul powarhrs, but yeah...

You would need a long spear to attack things that fly http://www.gameinformer.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-ImageFileViewer/CommunityServer-Components-SiteFiles-imagefeed-featured-bethesda-elderscrolls-elderscrollsv/dragonshoutfeatured.jpg_2D00_1680x0.jpg high.

Axes and hammers are as different from each other as quarterstaffs and spears.
An axe is sharp, you cut down things with it. A hammer is blunt, you crush things with it.

and so would the people of skyrim.

cliffracers were why I first used a spear in morrowind... as not doing so was a severe breach of immersion.

no spears in skyrim is not logical. it makes no sense.

Erm, I'll give you the benefit of a doubt, but this really seems like a troll post.

If I was fighting an airborne creature, I'd use whatever I had available. In fact, I used a BOW.

Removal of spears is not a severe breach of immersion. Bugs, load screens, etc. are severe breaches. In fact, what what so many seem to be immersion breakers are really minor. Of course that's just my opinion.

Not having spears was apparently logical to some, perhaps due to development process, cost of implementation, lack of use, limited resources.

Finally, If I was really going to fight some airborne, I'd offer beer, scantily clad opposite genders, and a 3-day pass ;) :gun:

Okay, okay, hear me out. If I was a dragon and some dude with a spear was poking me...now, this is where it get's a little complex so pay attention...I would fly slightly higher up and then roast the idiot with a fireball.

Why on earth would you choose a spear against a flying enemy rather than a bow or ranged spell? How do you expect to get enough force to do any damage at all when the creature is either staying just barely within your reach or flying away from you? Only if the flying creature in question was pants on head [censored] and flew directly at your spear would this make any sense.

Anyway, that's besides the point. Please, for the love of god, stop making spear topics. There have been literally hundreds of them by now, it is pointless and it is annoying. Stop, please. If they're in then they're in, if not then they're not. Deal with it.

^THIS^

It made sense for the Cliff Racers, as they had to us melee attacks. Dragons on the other hand can kill from a range, ergo a spear would be usless compared to a bow or magic. It's like fighting an archer on top of a tower with a spear.
