if YOU where the courier

Post » Wed Nov 26, 2008 7:39 pm

My first character (female - neutral karma) would mirror Cass. She'd deal off-and-on with the NCR, take odd jobs, get blink drunk / strung out, and seek out pretty women to sleep with (Cherche la femme). She never cared about her job as a courier or the fate of New Vegas. She doesn't care about revenge either. She lives in the moment and just wants to have fun.

My second character (male - evil) would challenge Lanius after Caesar died (I refused to aide him - he's all against medical tech right? Hypocrite). Since my character was a tank, he'd defeat new Lanius, but wouldn't bother conquering New Vegas - instead he would focus on solidifying his empire out of Flagstaff - and gradually wear down the NCR presence in the Mojave by pure attrition and by making regional allies to help boot them out. He'd be like Conan like Barbarian - after many years his crown would rest on a troubled brow. . . .

Erm.
The thread is about what "you" would do if you "were" the Courier.
Like, if all of the sudden, you wake up in Doc Mitchells office with an aching pain in your head.

Yeah, but "other" was an option. . .and I have a split personality acted out through my two "characters." :P

My first character would never activate the main quest line. My second would follow the legion quests until the end - not clear?

If I'm the courier, I'm not bound by the constraints of a video game, so I'd choose to do something more unique at the "end"

And if I'm just me - like the me sitting here right now - I'd be asking myself how the #^%& I wound up in a video game and how the hell I could get out of it. :obliviongate:

I'd work for Mr. House, live in luxury and enjoy carpet on my bare feet, a drink of wine, and the air conditioning :spotted owl:

Fo shiz.

Hunt Benny down and take the chip back, report to Mr House, do his in game questline then stick with the old coot. I'd try and convince him of various things, keeping the Kings alive for example, helping the FoA. I would then help him expand and rebuild Vegas, trying to get securitron patrols as regular between the major towns and so on.

That's if I was as tough/lucky as the courier (who let's face it gets a lot of stuff handed to him, probably karma apologising for the two big holes in the head thing). If I was me as I am right now, I'd probably die somewhere along the line, either by Powder Gangers while defending Goodsprings/helping Primm or just incidence at some point. I can handle a rifle but I'll be damned if I can take as many bullets as the courier does (of course it would all be real I suppose so it's a feasible journey...)

Spoiler
That's possible, you just have to ignite war between NCR and the Kings, Mr. House let's them be because he sees their warring as a sign of loyalty to New Vegas and it's independance.

Well, If I was the way I was four years ago I would go "[censored] THIS" and leave Vegas.

If I was the way I was one year ago, I would go straight to New Vegas and listen to "This meeting has been a long time coming, I see you ha-" and then say "I QUIT, YOU EXPECT ME TO WORK FOR YOU AFTER SOMEONE TRIED TO [censored] MURDER ME? WHAT THE [censored] IS WRONG WITH YOU, WHY THE [censored] ARE YOU ON A SCREEN, [censored]? WHAT THE [censored] MAN!? WHY THE HELL DID HE KILL ME FOR A [censored] CHIP!?!?! DAMN YOU, YOU FILTHY SON OF A [censored]!" and storm out of the building leaving House..

If I was the way I am now, I would go to Vegas, buy a gun and ammo, find out if anyone has seen someone in a checked suit, find out he works in the Tops, and go in there, put two bullets in his head and say "Don't miss next time." and run out of the strip and go into hiding.

Does not compute, does not compute.

Need input, input, input.

Input is this.

You kill a head of a Vegas without any explanation, and since you seem to want to just walk up, kill, then leave. Swank never knows why, meaning you did it on your own, so Vegas will attempt to come down on you hard.

The smart thing if you wanted to do that was play along with House, convince Swank of Bennys crimes, kill Benny in subterfuge, return to House the Platinum chip, then be on your way.

I never said it'd be smart, but it's what I would do.

I would 'attempt' to leave Vegas, If I suceeded I would go into hiding.. Maybe Jacobstown If I ever found it.

Then the question would remain, Why do it your way when the smart way is laid before you, and saves you much grief?

I would'nt know there was a smart way seeing as I would just go straight to Vegas. (Lots of running would be involved.)

After my last three sorry four hits on vegas, believe me Colonel no one will be coming after me if I did that.

"Can I take your weapons sir"....
"No".
"I insist".

"...."

Draws out at first a razor blade then a shotgun, next game a chainsaw, last game spiked knuckles....

"argggh" dead silence as everyone including the coward in stripy PJ's in the casino is dead.

Finds a nice cave to get away from the headache that are dead factions.

I'd probably settle down in Goodsprings; getting Sunny Smiles to learn me how to shoot with a rifle, so I'd be able to help protecting the town, if someone should attack. After I had settled down for a bit, I'd probably talk to the Doc about becoming his "apprentice", then, once he's dead, step into his shoes and become the new doctor in Goodsprings.

House. I pull off my job and I get to live in luxury till the end of my days. What with House hinting about letting people in on his longevity technology, that could be a long time as well.

I am normally, but you can only play so many long playthroughs without shooting up the casinos, the BoS, House, the little caesar the NCR, the securitrons.... well everyone really.
As I'm ignoring speech these days due to trying out BA characters with average to low charisma, it's all about the role.

My next run is either a cowboy caravan trader, or a pure heavy ganger.
So basically I've got a choice of big guns or trade and barter.... I wonder which will win out.

I would cut my losses and stay in Goodsprings. I'd support the NCR because, as Sunny Smiles says, "They're looking after thier own...it just happens to benefit us."

But I'm not entirely sure that would really be an option since Victor is in Goodsprings and would probably "encourage" me to go to the strip...at which point I would probably get killed by a gecko or bloatfly as soon as I hit the road.

I Would probably do much the same as I have in the games..

Be a generally helpful Paladin adventurer; righting wrongs, lopping off overreach, eliminating Evil, adopting puppies and helping little old ladies.

Well, maybe not those last two things.

I'd defeat the Legion Kill House, join the BoS, help the Followers, Khans, Boomers and all settlers, wipe out the Omertas and the White Gloves; then upgrade the power grid and water distribution; and finally, leave Yes Man standing on the corner like a casino shill, twiddling his thumbs and walk off into the sunset with the platinum chip in my pocket.

Finally I'd go into business with Loyal marketing his Sonic Ant Eradicator (modified to affect scorpions) to the entire wasteland.
