Your biggest disappointment?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:44 pm

The game is superb, overall.

My one disappointment was getting to +300 hours with one character not having finished all the questlines I had planned to do including the main quest (I like to wander around and take things slowly, very slowly, I'd only done the Thieves Guild, but hadn't got to guildmaster yet) and then having the game completely flake out on me in a number of interesting yet highly frustrating ways, likely due to save game bloat/corruption (I'm on PC). I think that after 300 hours I ran into similar issues that PS3 players are reporting much earlier in their game.

Hopefully Bethesda will fix this, because I do like to spend a lot of time with a character - not making a godlike overpowered character who does every quest line and reaches an absurd character level, just a normal character who spends an inordinate amount of time walking from a to b and catching butterflies in between doing a few quests :D - and the last thing I need is a time constraint to get stuff done before the game starts playing up.

There are benefits in starting a new character however, I already realised that I missed some stuff in my first playthrough and I've only just got to Riverwood. But I am a bit miffed about having to ditch a character I liked before her personal story was done.

I vote for the general lack of traditionally TES RPG elements. There's no reputation system (:cryvaultboy:), the factions are scarce, short, and really quite meaningless, there's less character customization, and it just really flat on its face as an RPG, in my very strong opinion.

Mine so far is not being able to equip sets of spells/weapons with one bind.

Why can't I equip muffle+invisibility as a set? Why can't I equip detect life and detect dead? Why do I need to use two of my already absurdly limited binds to equip a sword and board?

I could effectively have twice as many hotkeys, plus it'd just be far less of an awkward hassle when it comes to equipping stuff. I can't believe I've been able to play as much as I have in spite of the pathetic control scheme.

We really shouldn't have to wait for modders to fix it, it's one of the biggest issues on the PC, despite not technically being a bug. A huge disappointment that Bethesda hasn't done anything about it yet or even acknowledged it as an issue.

Not getting laid on prom night --. oh, you meant in the game? ... wait, I did get laid on prom night.. umm.. not sure then.

My biggest disappointment: The user interface for the PC. I am absolutely sure that no one at Bethesda ever tested the PC version for more than 5 minutes. Anyone playing the game longer than that would be annoyed. And yes, the game is huge and any complex system is likely to have more than a few bugs, but the interface bugs are so obvious that any testing team should have caught them long before the release.

As for the rest of the game: It's great. I love it. :)

Well there are a few things I would change, including:

Safely disenchanting items to eliminate the magical effect, but sparing the destruction of the equipment. You get no new knowledge of enchanting, but it would allow you to take an enchantment off of a piece of armor your really want.

Nobody recognizes that I am the Harbinger of The Companions or the Arch-Mage of The College of Winterhold. This must be fixed for immersion purposes.

Editing your character before leaving the tutorial would have saved me hours of starting over to recreate a character, as I am a perfectionist.

Beast Form should be more powerful, especially at higher levels when beast form becomes less useful. Perks specifically for Beast Form (that do not use your traditional perk points, but are acquired through doing certain things as a werewolf or doing quests that require Beast Form) would help this a lot, such as "Feed on 500 corpses to increase your health boost in Beast Form" or "Maul 500 NPCs to make the effect stronger" and putting them into stages.

Allowing the Player Character to kill WHOEVER HE/SHE WANTS! I am disgusted by the fact that out of the Black-Briar Family, I can only kill Ingun, who is the only good one. I don't care if it severs quest outcomes. I want to kill Maven and dump her in the canol.

Marriage should include many more NPCs, especially Redguard and all types of Mer and be a little more immersive.

EDIT: However, these are not disappointments, simply wishes, as I can make do without them

I think i know what you are talking about, the short cave with the bandit chief on a porch like area? I did that at about level 5 and beat it without too much effort beyond stepping back at the right time, and stagger locking them until I was out of stamina, then hitting him with normal hits inbetween.

Master is at least a little challenging at first, but as soon as you get past about level 10 or 15, it all falls apart.

No, it's the one with a key to a library and a named mage in said library

Less exotic looking places

You're joking, right?
I can't get enough of Skyrim's landscapes.

Tonight, my biggest disappointment is that Lost Valley Redoubt is the only place like itself in the game. I guess by extension that I'm disappointed that the Forsworn won't share it with me.

My disappointment in Skyrim PC version is that Aela The Huntress is nowhere to be found in the game when I get to the quest that requires me to give Aela her shield.

the biggest disappointment for me were the bugs, this is by far the buggiest game that i have played in my entire gaming life, the game has frozen at least 15 times on me, and the graphical glitches are so bad that i might even call them amusing, that is what they get for setting up a date line, screw 11 11 11. the main stories were very lacking in depth, it was just do what we tell you, pick a side, and now become the leader, which means absolutely nothing. this game is just an illusion of freedom, other games are very streamline and they don't let you choose, but they have a good story to back it up, it gives you motive to finish, but with skyrim you get to choose between two sides which nobody likes, screw the imperials and the stormcloaks, i wanted to challenge ulfric and become the high king, but of course freedom is very limited, the only reason that i liked tes is because of the freedom and i mean real freedom to do whatever you want, this game gave me niether freedom nor a good story, it did however gave me the ability to make myself immortal my exploiting its flaws, so scratch that, the biggest disappointment for me is knowing that this game could have been so much more and it just left me feeling nothing at the end of over 100 hours of playing it, great game to waste time, but that's it.

The removal of classes in general and the stones system that replaces the Birth sign.

I actually LIKE structure in my RPGs

I think what Beth were going for with this change was allowing the player to take anyone and make them anything. Removing as much potentially damning choices as possible, so that 10+ hours into Your character You aren't sat there regretting the choices You made. At least with the sacrifice of structure, You can find full enjoyment in the Character that You've chosen. Want a Rogue? Make a Rogue, Want a Spellsword? Make a Spellsword.

And I would also like to note that 'Wrong Birthsign? Change it at the Stone' sounds a lot more appealing than 'Wrong Birthsign? Start over.'

What's so special about Lost Valley Redoubt? It shows as "cleared" on my map and I don't remember it.

Biggest disappointment? After all the hype about "its practically a brand new engine" it really isn't, or at least it certainly doesn't play/feel like it. All the same old limitations we've had in the past, all the same buggy quirkiness, really it just feels like a big OB 2.0 with some new mechanics thrown in. That's probably my biggest disappointment, followed very closely by the state of the PC port.

I've really enjoyed this game so far, and have very few complaints. Sure, there are some things that may not be ideal, but looking at the game overall I think the pros really outweigh the cons.

That said, the only thing I've really been disappointed about (however minor it may be) is the voice acting for Khajiit and Argonians. I can understand why they weren't able to bring back Morrowind's beast legs (even though that would've been great IMO), but their accents (or lack thereof) in Skyrim make them even less distinct from human races.

My (Xbox 360) complaints:

- The horse cannot go backwards. WTF?!

- Sometimes after I complete quests, certain... "triggers" I guess you could call them... remain. Like in the middle of a quest in Markarth when you go into the Shrine of Talos and the guards accost you and you end up in the prison mine? Well, after I did all that stuff and wandered through the underbelly of Markarth and finally got back out, I returned to the Shrine of Talos and the guards accosted me again with the same dialogue. Uhh....

- The Stormcloak/Imperial dilemma. I guess it's not so much a legit complaint as it is me whining about the decision being a little more complex than good guy versus bad guy. I ended up with Ulfric, but after I started learning more about both sides and reading into the history and whatnot... grr, I'm annoyed that there's so much gray and not enough black and white! :P

The lack of spellmaking and the removal of the 'Void Gazer' spell (Night Eye for 2 1/2 minutes for a tiny amount of magicka).

Non dynamic quests. I want to be able to kill all the bad guys in Riften and cleanse the city of corruption but I guess I'll have to go back to Fallout New Vegas for a better, more dynamic storyline.

Was hoping there would be animation for the taking of objects and giving objects to Npcs but they work like in oblivion as they just dissapear and when you deliver something the person just makes as if you handed the item to them but didn't see any animation of it.

I can deal with the loss of the finger pad of choices, the limited spells, the loss of birth signs, perks; I can accept most of the changes.

But I miss the fun of high speed movement, strength, acrobatics, and the chameleon spell. Acrobatics and speed were fun. I thought games were to be fun?

Explanations that it wasn't fair that some players would 'misuse' chameleon, or strength, or any damn thing to complete quest lines and then act as 'peers' to those who did it the hard way are unacceptable. It nobody's business how you play the game, and your single player game does not affect your neighbor. Catering to resentments like that, or to misplaced 'realism' are only going to lead to more of the same. And we have that already- someone published a list on this forum of all the things that were too easy after only 30 hours of play. Sneak was too easy. There was lots more on the list.
Keep going in this direction and you'll be lucky 'magic' can light a campfire by Elder Scrolls 7.

Keep this going and you'll lose the several hundred pounds of gear you carry today- after all, 150 is really about it, and that includes the weight of armor. We need to get rid of swords weighing dozens of pounds- not realistic.

Instead of continuing to remove assets, why not produce a future Elder Scrolls game similar to Fallout New Vegas and let the single player decide what assets he or she wants? You want hardcoe- you should be allowed to have hardcoe. (and there was really nothing ever stopping you)
Bethesda, please quit removing abilities of the players.

In the real world I already know how much weight I can carry, and that I can't toss fireballs around, turn chameleon or run up a mountainside. But in previous Elder Scrolls games, we could do these things. If I wanted a more realistic world play there was Fallout.

There was no reason to remove fun because somene resented it being there.

The wasted potential within all the epic quests. There are good ideas but the realisation is a bit a disapointment.

Examples:
I think the fight in Sovngarde should be an epic one, but all you have to do is to walk a bit through the valley, speak to the 3 heroes and do an unspecular fight against Alduin.
Or the civil war. Almost all you have to do is to slay down the enemies in some forts and when you do the final attack (IIn my case with Ulfric) you get an speech like in HDR but then you do an unspecular assault with with <10 people, although the engineis able to handle more npc.
The quest with the priest masks. You have to collect all the masks and at the end you ony have to put them into some holders and nothing else happens then the opening of another holder.

The quest bugs. There are a lot of quests with with corrupt triggers.
