Do your characters live in the same 'world'?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:57 am

Just a thought I had the other day when starting with a new character. I know in gameplay terms, each world is separate, but that's what roleplay is for. Do any of you here roleplay your characters living in the same world?

In my mind Rayn and Arum live in the same Cyrodiil, but Skarsgard lives in a different one. It takes some imagination obviously, as when they 'meet' they aren't really meeting at all, but their locations are in the same place. I think it was helped by the fact Rayn and Arum had different interests. He was arena, fighters guild, dabbled with dark brotherhood. She was mages guild.

It can be a pain in the backside sometimes to have characters live in the same world, therefore I have to keep track of who has done what quests. But it's a challenge I relish, and it gives a fresh angle on their stories.

How about the rest of you? If you only have one character, would they share a world with a secondary character, or are they two different 'worlds'?

Lothran shares Buffy′s world as they sometimes meet each other and corresponds via letters, so I guess that′s my answer. Interesting question btw :)

Absolutely. I have 8 Oblivion characters that I consider "canon," and all 8 of them live in the same Cyrodiil. They all do different things. Nona Sintalius became the Champion of Cyrodiil. Zoey Tarellond became Arch-Mage of the Mage's Guild. Ariane collected the Ten Ancestors for Umbacano. The list goes on.

I've also had several situations where one of my characters meets another one of my characters and they have some brief interaction. This is either done through my own personal modding or just through imagination.

I only roleplay in one 'world.' Even my characters from past TES games like Morrowind and Daggerfall are considered to be in the same Tamriel as my Oblivion characters.

The problem with "same world" is "same quests." You can't very well have two people in the world at the same time who were selected by the Emperor to do the same Very Important Task. :)

Having said that (and since I use an alternate start mod anyway), I have no problem envisioning my two presently active characters as living in the same world at the same time. Desdaemone is a Master Conjurer, a member of the Arcane University, and has been closing Oblivion Gates left and right. Wild Elf doesn't speak, never goes into a city, and wouldn't go near an Oblivion Gate if she ever saw one.

My Morrowind character and Oblivion character exist in the same Tamriel. I added an old Oblivion character of mine as a corpse where they had last died.

I have only had 2 characters. Azreal (Breton Mage/540 hrs) is retired at her home in Skingrad due to the A bomb. She was Arch Mage, Cyrodil Champion, KOTN commander and Arena champion. Her cousin Sureal is a Breton Atronach (175 hrs) whose primary home base is Choral. Azreal gave the Wizard's tower to her cousin. I roleplay them both as being in the same Cyrodil, and Sureal will visit her cousin when she is in Skingrad. There has been some overlap since Sureal has initiated enough of the MQ to spawn Oblivion gates, and defeated Umbra for her armor. But Sureal is pursuing the TG and the DB and plans to finish SI, since her cousin was not interested. I purposely avoid the majority of the other quests that the first character completed. I am finding more than enough side quests and new locations in the game that the first character ignored, or never discovered. Based upon the open quests in her journal, there is more than enough content for Sureal to pursue an entirely alternate career path in Oblivion before the advent of 11/11/11, and well beyond for that matter. Thus far, I have no problem with them living cooperatively within the same world.

hmm... Since I've only ever had the one avatar (used in two lengthy plays-through) I am unqualified to respond. I image that should I ever create a separate entity he will not share the same Cyrdiil as my current decrepit character.

Now for some years during my MMO days two of my numerous characters were halflling brothers, the elder a druid, the young a warrior. I did not then have the equipment to run both simultaneously, but role-played their relationship to the hilt. Of course in an MMO all characters do indeed share the same world (unless you split them between shards/servers) regardless of whether or not they acknowledge each other's existence.

Yes, but that's because they are all the same character. I want to have a continuous adventure with my character that I established a long time ago.

Most of my characters live in the same world, and their stories are intertwined. I don’t have a problem keeping track of who is doing what quests, since the characters are all so different from one another. Only one of them met the Emperor.

My first do-everything character and the character I started for the Dead Is Dead thread live all alone in their own versions of Tamriel.

I have several characters that live in the same world. When I start a new one, I create a CM Partner of the previous character so they can travel together.

I've mentioned this story before, but I've gone so far as to put two characters, Aemyn and Eawyn Eawulf, into each other's games. Each sister functioned as an NPC in the others' game.

I'd make Aemyn the NPC for Eawyn's game first. Eawyn would then leave her home in Bruma to go adventuring. At a certain point in Eawyn's adventures I would stop her game. I would then recreate Eawyn as an NPC and drop her randomly somewhere in Cyrodiil. Then I'd start Aemyn's game. Aemyn would leave the family home in Bruma to go in search of her missing sister. I've done this a few times now and it can take tens or hundreds of hours to find Eawyn...or sometimes we never do.

Generally speaking, though, when I'm playing heavily and playing more than one character at a time I do tend to see my characters as living in the same world at the same time. They don't do the same quest lines, for instance, because one of the others will have accomplished those tasks. However, if I take a break from the game I will generally "wipe the slate clean" when I come back. I'll start over again with new characters who do not live in the same world as the old characters.

Yea, they do to some extent, at least my last 4 or 5 characters do. Like since Dyan phor a'Cauz lives in the Bruma House, Waterfront Shack, and Greyland, none of my other recent characters will do so. They also don't repeat quests done by other chars. Dyan did Unfair Competition, for instance, so that when Lady Saga or any of my other characters hear about Thoronir's mis-adventures, they either ignore these "rumors", or they won't even speak to the NPC accusing of Thoronir of wrongdoing in the first place.

The four main ones weren't to start with, for the reason someone else said - all of them doing the same quests. Two of them had done the MQ, Knights of the Nine, been champion of the Arena and become head of the Fighters Guild.

But then I did a little thinking and now they all are there together, it's just a matter of deciding who did what (or if ever in the case of the Arena).

Makes it more interesting because it then produced a burst of character creation, because I decided on several characters I'd need for my story...Which then led to my new burst of writing...Most fantastic, very chuffed...I missed writing...

Aaamywho, yes, all mine are in the same universe...

That's what I do. They never meet each other, though. Makes sense as Cyrodiil is supposed to be huge, lore-wise.

Now, what if I wanted to do a quest that my other character did? Simple: I pretend that they're meeting at a tavern.

CHARACTER #1- Gregreo! Haven't seen you in a while! What's going on?
GREGREO: Nothing much, my Dunmer friend. Just helped a High Elf get a crystal ball from a haunted ship over in Anvil.
VULL (the Dunmer he's talking too): Tell me about it.

Then, while Gregreo's telling this story to Vull, I play out the quest with Vull as he's picturing out how the quest went down. Of course, I have to put him in Gregreo's steel armor and play in first person when I'm doing this.

Make sense? No??

That's the way I see it. Cyrodiil isn't gigantic, but it's big enough that it's possible 2 of my characters could possibly never meet, especially since most of them travel a lot. I mean, it took me almost 3 years (Earth time) before I even saw M'aiq the Liar, who is quite the traveller, of course. So...

It actually makes a lot of sense. It's a brilliant way of getting around the same quests issue.

No. I always think of their worlds to be separate. Though sometimes, I like to imagine how it would be if they accompanied one another in some quests. My main Breton who's a carefree mercenary and a thief wouldn't get along my sadistic bosmer assassin who only dreams about killing every character in Tamriel.

I used to put my characters in the world as NPCs when I was using other ones in Morrowind. In Oblivion it wasn't really possible because of the face modelling system. Skyrim's face system seems to be easy to keep track of so I might put my character in the world again, each with their own houses which I chose while playing them :P

It's the closest I got to a multiplayer mode in TES

Buffy is the only character I have. She has many friends that inhabit her world though and quite a few of them belong to other players. In our case, this is accomplished not by tinkering with pixels, but via imagination and the written word.

I have made some who are supposed to be "related"

My new MQ playthrough, an innocent Pilgrim, my new DB playthrough, a Claymore-wielding assassin with no regard for the law, and a pure alchemist whose only weapons are her potions and her sidekicks. Are all related, but my Main char, Kerris Vinchi, is in a different Tamriel.

mirocu is right! Buffy and Lothran got together at the University and created a spell that summons a carrier dove that is attuned to find each of them. They use the spell to help send letters routinely back and forth and even coordinate getting together to visit. Despite their busy schedules, this has kept them in touch, enabled them to share their lives and ensured they remain the closest of friends. :wavey:

I did this in Morrowind; my Telvanni Mage and my Legionary were both in the same Morrowind.
The fact that the Telvanni are mostly in the east and the Legion are mostly in the west helped.
Neither character has/will play the MQ.
