Do your companions use Stimpacks you give them?

He said he did that but she would not use it.

Interesting. Maybe there is a problem with Cait. I have her currently, I will check tonight if I remember to.

Danse and Hancock will use stimpaks. Danse rarely consumes them as he's such a bullet-absorbing monster but Hancock uses them quite often during combat. In order to use one, they need to be able to duck behind cover whether that be behind you or a wall. With Hancock, I always hear him using it as the fx for using Jet plays. He doesn't have Jet though and if I check his inventory after the fight is over, he'll have at least one less stimpak.

So humans definitely do use them..

Maybe Mutants do not have the animation for it?

They will use any weapon you tell them to use, as long as you have also given them sufficient ammo for it. By "tell them", I literally mean "play weapon dress-up", same way you pick their armor.

I like to make sure my gal pal has a copious amount of .38 cal, so I can switch her to a .38 auto pipe rifle for milk runs (seriously, I've got thousands of rounds), some kind of melee weapon for close work (they can switch to these automatically), and a killer weapon like a sniper .50 cal or .45 cal combat rifle. The killer weapon is a heavy hitter but not rapid fire; I feed her ammo in chunks of 500, and I like to space those out.

But Cait already has shotgun shells for her default weapon?

Fair enough. For me, I've usually dropped all enemies before my companion can get more than a couple of shots off. I's a rare thing for them to ever become crippled, let alone downed. So, I guess my looking after them is up front.

Nope, gotta give ammo even if it is the same as default weapon. Weird but true.

I have over 3,000 stimpaks. I did not use any stimpaks until I reach level 72 on survivor. For whatever reason up until then the game was pretty easy. At level 76 I finally decided to ditch my .38 / .45 pipe auto rifle / sniper rifle. Why was the game so easy for me up until level 72 on survivor? I have no idea. I upgraded to .45 combat semi-auto rifle and and .308 sniper rifles. They are non-legendary of course, I don't want my game to be too easy.
