Your "Corrupt" Files

Post » Sun Apr 18, 2010 7:33 am

A few days ago I listed a fix to these "corrupt" files that some people have been having in an older topic of someone's that had a bunch of people ranting and raving about these issues. Now I do not blame everyone for getting hot and bothered over these problems because nobody likes a Blocker that should've been dealt with before shipping (a Blocker is a type of bug that is so severe that it is a game-breaker that need to be fixed before launch). Of course you cannot blame Obsidian too much. The problem could be in the software and it could all be Obsidian's fault but I doubt it is their fault. Many things can cause complications like this. You could have bad software, you could have bad discs, and what it most likely the problem is you could have had bad disc pressing. Most likely it is a little bit of two of these problems. Chances are that the discs are bad and there is some problems with the special DLC packs that has caused people with or without to have problems. Why would someone have problems without the DLC? The game was obviously designed to have atleast one of these packs in the game so without these packs and the game expecting you to have one can cause the game to screw up a bit. This is probably the cause of a developmental mishap. The constant freezing everyone is having is probably caused by bad disc pressing. There is literally a lot of different reasons to all of these problems because when I took my FNV back to Gamestop for a new copy (thank god for these warranties) I didn't have as much problems. Of course I will admit that I think that the whole problem is both the result of inadequate bug testing and troubleshooting on behalf of Obsidian (although I love this game, it is so much fun and I beat the game on hardcoe last night on Normal because I'm not playing on anything below that because I like my challenges). So don't think I'm saying anything bad about Obsidian or the community that plays this game, or you as a forum reader. I am just stated some possible problems of which some of them could not even be a problem at all, it is mostly theoretical. Anyway, the little fix I have. If your game freezes and you start your game up you notice that you have "corrupt" files but the good news is that chances are they are not corrupt at all. Two solutions include clicking on 'Load' which loads up the Load menu. If you see 'corrupted' saves just hit the button that brings of storage device selection. Then click on your hard drive (or whatever you're using) which reloads your hard drive on that game. This usually brings your 'corrupted' files back to selectable and usable. If that doesn't work you may have to reload your storage device multiple times and leaving the Load menu and re-entering after reloading your storage device helps with that too. Now when you reload your formally 'corrupted' save you'll notice that it will load up without a problem. If it freezing, gives you disc unreadables, or locks up while loading up that save then your disc is more than likely broken. The reason I say this is because my first disc would freeze and give me disc unreadable while reloading my 'corrupt' file but my second disc had no problems loading them. I have froze three times in one day with my second disc but after a few hour break it ended up playing straight for a while. It also has given me a disc unreadable while entering a door but when reloaded it didn't give me another. If it gives me another disc unreadable I'm getting another free copy (serious; warranties rule). I hope that helps. I also have a friend that got the DLC unavailable pop-up but it didn't screw anything up for him and you just loaded it up anyway and kept playing so it sounds like there is supreme amounts of variation. Here's good luck to Obsidian finding these issues quickly.

May requires multiple tries that end up going into the double digits.

This isn't rant about the game having issues, it's about helping people fix a certain problem of theirs so they CAN play their game. Seems to me that this thread is quite the opposite of the type your thinking of.

The reloading doesn't work at all, nice try though. Leave it to the people who designed the game to try to fix it.

I think that's funny that you would get angry at me for just trying to help. Does this look like I'm poking through files in the game? No, I am simply posting a quick solution that helped me out. So I will leave people like you who like to be rude, angry individuals to be as such. Don't get butt-hurt because this solution doesn't work for you.

I'm sorry that it didn't work for you. Like I said, just putting down what helped me out. Figured if it helped other people out they'd be able to finish their game.

Understandable that you would be very angry. I see all these people on the forums and I can't help but think how much this svcks. We all thought we were going to have an awesome month of Fallout ahead of us. I'm actually going to go to Gamestop later and get a refund because this is the second disc in a row that's not working which shows that it is most likely the software and not the hardware. One guy said he was going to wait a year later and get the Game of the Year Edition and everyday I get on this game and I have problems the more I think that idea is terrific.

Seriously, what's the point of wasting more money on dlc when you don't know if your game is going to work or not

Yeah, this is pretty stupid. I also hate it when people get annoyed at people who complain about this. Who isn't going to complain about this? I completely agree with many statements among the populace on the forums. We bought a broken game that was promised to be 'not' broken. That promise is made as soon as it ships. Although some people go overboard with their statements but it's still understandable why they would, though.

I mentioned this in another thread, just use the Vault 11 infinite xp glitch to boost your level to back to where it was before you got corrupted save files, dont wait for a patch, it only took me 40 mins from a new game to get there, got to level 14 and left, and whats even better is that i got to rebuild my char from scratch and it ended up even better than my old char, obviously avoid the " come fly with me " quest if you do this and make multiple saves often just incase.

Interesting, please elaborate on this Vault11 infinite bug. I would like to hear more on that. I also completed the 'come fly with me' quest and continued on to beat the game on hardcoe mode. I had some problems but luckily I didn't have any game-breakers.

What about those of us who have installed the game on the HDD? I am still getting these errors even though the Box was clearly able to read/install it on the HDD.

Funny thing is that also have my game installed to my hard drive. If this solution doesn't work for you then I apologize for the waste of time.

Tried it last night, Dolph, and it didn't work. Oh, well.

However, I agree with you. I don't think the saves are corrupt in the "mangled to the point of being unsalvageable" sense.

I'm terribly sorry it did not work for you. I've heard another solution to some of this mess: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1129296-think-i-may-have-developed-a-work-around-re-save-games/
Maybe this may work for you but this kind of requires you to perform the fix before it 'corrupts'.

Really? That's pretty funny. Good job on that, it looks like it would work but I have no Memory Cards so I'm out on that and as long as my solution keeps working for me I guess I can't complain too much.
